2022 Chevy Equinox RS: Real World Photo Gallery

Production of the 2022 Chevy Equinox crossover began on June 14th, rolling out a model refresh that includes a long list of changes and updates. Now, GM Authority has captured the 2022 Chevy Equinox RS out and about on public roads, providing our very first look at the new Equinox RS in the real world.

General Motors originally planned to release the mid-cycle enhancement (MCE, otherwise known as a refresh or facelift) for the Chevy Equinox with the introduction of the 2021 model year. However, due to complications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the model refresh was pushed back to the 2022 model year.

Among the updates debuting with the 2022 Chevy Equinox is a new sporty RS trim level, which includes a variety of styling updates for the exterior and interior.

This particular 2022 Chevy Equinox RS is covered in Cherry Red Tintcoat paint, which is also a new addition for the 2022 model year. The front end features a gloss black grille, which works well against the bright red paint. The shape of the grille was redesigned for the 2022 model year across the Equinox lineup.

Moving over to the side, we find further highlights specific to the RS trim level, such as 19-inch Dark Android wheels. The side rails are black as well, making for a nice accent along with this model’s tinted windows.

Final touches include black Bow Ties and black badging. Inside, the 2022 Chevy Equinox RS featured an RS shift knob and black upholstery with red stitching.

As for the broader exterior changes, the refreshed 2022 Chevy Equinox features a new front end, complete with the redesign grille section mentioned above, plus a restyled lower fascia section, new fog lamps, new headlamps, redesigned tail lamps, and a revised rear bumper.

The 2022 Chevy Equinox is motivated by the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX four-cylinder, which produces 170 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 203 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. Output is routed through a six-speed automatic transmission.

  1. Amazing what a new grill & lights can do – I always thought this gen of Equinox was awkward looking and boring, a lot less “tough” looking (actually wimpy looking) than it’s predecessor. But I think it’s pretty sharp now!

    1. I agree, I think this and the Traverse refresh were homeruns

  2. What a wonderful update. Keep making the sporty RS trim and strip it of the decent and competitive powertrain which was a 2.0T and a 9 speed and offer a -acceptable 10 years ago – 170hp engine with a 6 speed automatic transmission.

    What a turd.

  6. It looks fine, but needs a “REAL ENGINE”.

    1. “gm” isn’t going to invest in new ICE engines, anymore. “Plug-in Mary” has seen to that. They continue to whittle down the selection of ICE powerplants, across the corporate model range. “Shepard the herd” of common folks to a plug-in pod. “Clean electricity”. Ha. Produced how? Largely by coal-fired powerplants, of course. Everybody plug-in to the woefully antiquated and outdated electrical grid, every night. Good luck! The new “infrastructure” bill won’t fix any of those issues, because it’s not really an infrastructure bill, of course. And where do the used-up battery cells go, when they are no longer viable? Don’t tell me they’ll all get recycled. They won’t!

      1. No one is even asking them to “invest” in a new engine. All people want is a large EXISTING engine offered in the ‘Nox. You really think it has anything to do with electrification? Its just typical GM cutting out less popular options.

        1. I agree with you partially, in addition to my original comment, sir. They do seem to always cut content on vehicles, as they age through their model cycle, to cut cost, and gain more profit. But, Ms. Barra is hell bent on electrification. That is where she is putting the majority of “gm” money. And, she has a healthy helping of congressional lobbyists to help her cause, and willing conspirators of the Democrat Party. It’s easy pickings for her, under a Biden administration. If the so-called “infrastructure bill” passes through both houses of Congress, and is signed by Mr. Biden, “gm” stands to reap in the benefits…on the backs of the taxpayers who generally, and on the by and large, don’t have any interest in a plug-in pod.

  8. Still looks like a station wagon but now with only one weak engine choice. And they call that an RS? RS should mean more than a black grill. The rest of the industry knows that the market wants more rugged looking and rugged performing SUVs that can at least tow light loads and can tread at least lightly off the pavement, but GM keeps giving us soccer mom and/or invisible SUVs. Ford and Toyota know this. Why GM hasn’t made a rugged SUV (think 4Runner) from the Colorado is beyond me. Things that seem like a no-brainer aren’t for this company.

  11. This “update” was postponed due to covid, hence it’s already outdated. The engine is weak and uninviting. GM is going the way of Nissan with how long they keep these generations going… so sad to watch this company die a 2nd time.

  13. The size of the 2010-2017 Equinox was perfect. My wife has a 2016 and recently spent time in a 2021 rental. She liked the power of the 2021 but disliked the smaller size. The new Equinox is no longer on her radar.

  14. Looking at all the pics they show dual exhaust tips but then some pics show none I’m confused does it have duel exhaust tips or not I guess with supposedly the 1.5 engine u don’t need dual exhaust tips . Refreshed for 2022 but still behind and lagging in performance one good thing at least it’s getting a 9 speed behind the 1.5 engine but the 2.0 would be nice at least add it as a option

    1. Only the GMC Terrain is getting a 9 speed. The Nox carries on with the older 6 speed

  15. Chris to you I ask then why did for discontinue the Fusion and Focus? Which actually sold well for Ford? I used to see these two vehicles all over the place. The 4runner that’s a real 4×4 the new Bronco is a wanna be off roader built off the Escape 👎. What I think it is is that most off road vehicles I see are customized by the owner… Wheels, bumpers, lights, tires, shocks and they all look better then anything Ford or GM can make… Even custom jeeps look better then a factory off road model.

  16. Complete with 1990’s level of 9 plus second 0-60 powerhouse performance. As long as those dark Android wheels stay on the RS only I’ll be happy!

  17. This vehicle is a prime example of where GM’s “strategy” is these days. Take out as much content as possible year after year, reduce powertrains to an absolute minumum, extend a vehicle’s lifespan to the point of being totally uncompetitive, design bargain-basement interiors, price vehicles as high as possible, then offer Kohl’s-style “XX% off MSRP” fire sales to move the metal. They have become a company that reluctantly designs, builds and sells automobiles. The only real, class-competitive exceptions are the Corvette and some Cadillacs.
