The online configurator tool for the updated 2022 Chevy Equinox compact crossover has gone live on the automaker’s website.
The configurator tool allows users to view the different available trim levels for the 2022 Chevy Equinox, select their preferred exterior and interior trim colors and apply different available options including equipment packages, wheels and dealer-installed accessories.
We used the tool to create our own 2022 Chevy Equinox. For our example car, we selected the sporty new RS trim level, which adds a unique front grille treatment/fascia, black exterior accents, black Equinox badges and black-painted 19-inch wheels. The interior also gets some sport-inspired enhancements, including contrasting red stitching and an RS-branded shift knob with a stitched leather shift boot.
Our example Equinox RS also has the Iridescent Pearl Tricoat exterior color, a $995 option, as well as the available RS Leather Package, which costs $1,580 to equip. Adding the RS Leather Package also requires customers to order the $895 Infotainment Package and $695 Advanced Safety Package, however, adding $3,125 to the price tag.
The 2022 Chevy Equinox comes standard with a turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX four-cylinder, which produces 170 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 203 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. Output is routed through a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive is standard, while all-wheel-drive can be added to any trim level for a price premium of $1,600. In addition to the RS trim level, the compact crossover is also available to order in the entry-level LS, mid-grade LT and range-topping Premier trims.
Just as with the 2021 model year Chevy Equinox, the mid-cycle enhancement 2022MY Equinox will be produced at the GM CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, as well as the GM San Luis Potisi Assembly and GM Ramos Arizpe Assembly plants in Mexico.

The 2022 GMC Terrain configurator is also online.
There’s only one way I would spec an Equinox. Black RS.
I’d spec it with the 2.0 engine and 9 speed transmission. Oh wait, I can’t get that anymore!
The Equinox without a 2.0T and the 9 speed auto., is out of the running for me. The 1.5T and 6 speed is not adequate for my needs. Blazer is too costly and the Terrain is “too long in the tooth.”
I am giving serious thought of just buying my wife’s 2019 Red Line with the 2.0 since GM would rather give us color options as opposed to performance.
An Equinox spec’d to match a Mazda CX-5-Grand Touring Reserve comes in at $38000 which is almost $2k more than the Mazda..and of course, you are stuck wIth the 1.5l engine vs the 2.5l turbo in the GTR. Not sure why people would buy the Equinox right now.
Only thing that surprised me is no nine speed automatic.
Nice we can pick colours and wheels and trims but now no engine power plants stuck with the 1.5 underpowered engine in the equinox for 2022 do I really want a chevy now oh wait gm made my buying decision even easier and no I will pass and look at other manufacturers.
It’s dull and boring inside and out and totally outclassed. I can’t think of a single competitor, including the ho-hum Ford Escape, that isn’t more desirable.
Why are all you GM haters wasting your time on this website, life is to short. I have a 2018 Equinox 25,000 miles zero issues. 1.5 has plenty of power (it is NOT a sports car) with excellent gas mileage. I paid 21,000 dollars before taxes, if you pay 35,000 or 40,000 dollars then that is just stupid.
I’ve got a 2020 AWD LT with the 1.5 and it has plenty of oomph, even on an uphill freeway climb of over 4000 ft. in about 25 miles. It will even light up the front tires when you punch it from a stop light.
You may love it, but that doesn’t make it competitive and certainly not class leading. GM is way behind in this segment.
Competitive compared to what?
