The 2021 GMC Sierra HD (Heavy Duty) – which consists of Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD models – adds three new exterior colors to its palette: Cayenne Red Tintcoat, Ebony Twilight Metallic, and Hunter Metallic. Here’s our first look at the new Hunter Metallic hue.
Assigned color code GED and touch-up paint code WA-244F, Hunter Metallic is one of six dark hues for the 2021 GMC Sierra HD, along with Onyx Black, Carbon Black Metallic, Ebony Twilight Metallic, Pacific Blue Metallic, and Brownstone Metallic. Hunter Metallic replaces Dark Sky Metallic, which was deleted after the 2020 model year.
It is worth noting that two of the three new-for-2021 colors are metallic paint options, bringing the total number of metallic paint colors to six for the 2021 Sierra HD. With two exterior paint options deleted for the 2021 Sierra HD, the addition of the three new hues brings the total number of exterior paint options to 11 for the heavy duty pickup truck.
The new Hunter Metallic color is not included in the base price of the 2021 Sierra HD, costing an extra $495. It’s exclusive to the Denali trim level and available in conjunction with two of the four interior color combinations, which include Jet Black as well as Dark Walnut and Dark Ash Grey.

- Jet Black with Kalahari

Notably, Summit White is the only exterior paint option included in the base price of the 2021 Sierra HD. To clarify, these changes apply to both 2021 Sierra 2500HD and 2021 Sierra 3500HD models.
As of this writing, GMC dealers might have the 2021 Sierra HD in stock, including models in Hunter Metallic. However, the ongoing microchip shortage has severely disrupted the supply of Sierra pickups as well as most vehicles from other manufacturers, so we recommend checking with a dealer for complete availability details.
Prospective buyers may be interested to know that the 2021 model year sees the addition of a new set of power-retractable assist steps, new wheels, and several new packages.
