The 2021 GMC Sierra HD (Heavy Duty) – which consists of Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD models – adds three new exterior colors to its palette: Hunter Metallic, Ebony Twilight Metallic, and Cayenne Red Tintcoat. Here’s our first look at the new red hue.
Assigned color code GSK and touch-up paint code WA-252F, Cayenne Red Tintcoat is the only tintcoat paint option available for the 2021 Sierra HD. Cayenne Red Tintcoat is also one of two red exterior paint hues offered, with the other being Cardinal Red Metallic.
Cayenne Red replaces Red Quartz Tintcoat, which was deleted after the 2020 model year. The Cayenne Red Tintcoat is very similar to the Red Quartz Tintcoat paint option, though it appears to be a bit brighter.
It is worth noting that two of the three new colors are metallic paint options, bringing the total number of metallic paint colors to six for the 2021 Sierra. With two exterior paint options deleted for the 2021 Sierra HD, the addition of the three new hues brings the total number of exterior paint options to 11 for the heavy duty pickup truck.
The new Cayenne Red Tintcoat color is not included in the base price of the 2021 Sierra HD, and costs an extra $645. It’s available on all trim levels except for the Sierra (base) trim, and in conjunction with three out of four interior color combinations.

- Jet Black
- Jet Black with Kalahari
- Dark Walnut with Slate

It’s worth noting that Summit White is the only exterior paint option included in the base price of the 2021 Sierra HD.
As of this writing, GMC dealers might have the 2021 Sierra HD in stock, including models in Cayenne Red Tintcoat. However, the ongoing microchip shortage has severely disrupted the supply of Sierra pickups as well as most vehicles from other manufacturers, so we recommend checking with a dealer for complete availability details.
Prospective buyers may be interested to know that the 2021 model year sees the addition of a new set of power-retractable assist steps, new wheels, and several new packages.
