Production of the 2021 Corvette was paused in May and June, with General Motors’ production facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky idling due to a parts shortage unrelated to the ongoing global semiconductor chips shortage. Now, according to a recent memo, Chevrolet is cutting production of the 2021 Corvette short.
“In order to maintain start of production for the 2022 model year Corvette Stingray in late Q3, and as a result of continued unplanned part shortages not related to the industry-wide semiconductor availability issues, General Motors has had to make an adjustment in the number of Corvette Stingrays available for the 2021 model year,” said Assistant Manager, Chevrolet Passenger Cars, Performance and Motorsports Communications at General Motors, Trevor Thompkins, in a statement.
Essentially, this means that the production for the 2021 Corvette has been reduced, with General Motors moving forward with production of the 2022 model year vehicle, rather than extending production of the 2021 model year to make up for lost production time earlier this year.
That also means that some 2021 Corvette customers waiting for their vehicle won’t get their order. That said, General Motors added that customers with accepted 2021 Corvette orders at Event Status 3000 and above will still receive their vehicle.
“We are not planning on canceling any accepted 2021 model year Corvette Stingray sold orders (event code 3000 and above),” Thompkins added.
Those customers with 2021 Corvette orders under event status 3000 will need to place an order with their dealer for a 2022 model year vehicle, depending on where they are in the ordering process.
General Motors also reiterated that the parts shortage is unrelated to the ongoing global semiconductor chips shortage, but declined to specify exactly what the issue was.
Production of the 2021 Corvette was put on pause in May, with the cut later extended through June. The automaker halted new 2021 Corvette sold orders on March 25th due to overwhelming demand.

I’m going to assume it’s the transmission.
It’s been a mess with Tremac and this transmission.
I choose not to order a 2020 due to the lack of a manual transmission. I liked my 2017 just fine. Unfortunately, it went to Corvette Heaven. Please reconsider the manual for 2022.
Manual isn’t coming back. You won’t be able to fit one in with the packaging. It’s also much slower compared to the new automatic.
I drove MT only for 60 years save 1…. coming from a C7/MT I can tell you that the DCT in the C8 is incredible when in manual model.
It’s to be expected with the delays from all of the shortages. I was surprised when GMC went ahead with the 2021 Terrain Denali. It’s coming out in June or something, yet September is right around the corner.
Corvette problems have not been as simple as chips, it’s been hit hard with numerous supply chain issues.
NOT WHEN THEY ARE SHIPPING TO CANADA, MEXICO, AND AUSTRALIA FOR EXAMPLE, BEFORE FILLING EXISTING 2020-2021 ORDERS FILL USA ORDERS FIRST! EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT MUCH OF A USA COMPANY ANY MORE!!! STILL WAITING NOT FUN!
How dare these basteds at GM build such a popular car???
Get over it.
It’ll be worth the wait.
Union strike.
Pandemic.
Parts supply.
Unprecedented popularity.
IT SEEMS THAT THE NEW GENERATION IS NOT ORIENTED IN A USA FIRST ATTITUDE FIRST
I ORDERED IN THE LATTER PART OF 2019 AND I AM STILL WAITING AS OF TO DAY WITH A 3000# CODE SO YES I AM UPSET, WITH GM AS WELL AS SOME OF THE REPLYERS WHO HAS A LESS THAN HEALTHY ATTITUDE TO GET THEIR HANDS ON A “8” OR THEY HAVE IT ON ORDER AND CANNOT AFFORD IT IF IT WERE TO SHOW UP OH WELL THE NEW GENERATIONS……
Mine has been stuck at 3000 status since March. Still no one can tell me when it will get built.
Thats a bummer… Hang in there, the car is worth the wait, or maybe you can upgrade to the upcoming Z06 now… haha!
Ray,
My 2020HTC went 3000 in mid Feb. ‘20. Was finally built Oct. 26 ‘20.
All things considered, it was well worth the wait.
Hang in there. Good luck!
I think mine is also but no information from anyone
mine too
i made it to 3000 sooooo what now
My c8 build has been sat at 3000 status Sinnce the middle of February , and I am being told delivery could be, June,July or august, thus is really starting to get old.
THE SAM3!!!
Getting supply chains back to what we are used to won’t come as fast as shutting them down. World wide supply has been stopped and is trying to restart, it’s not like flipping a light switch. It may take years to get things straight again. It’s no one manufacturer.
I waited 20 months for my 2020…… well worth the wait
I ordered a 2020, had to reorder a 2021 and it was a total of 18 months. I just received it March of 2021. I was so disgusted with the waiting, but the car is worth waiting for.
Having to reorder your 2021 because you’re below 3000 status is bad CR. Now the dealers will suck more money from the buyers and the buyers will be at the back of the line, again. It is not the buyers fault, it’s GM’s. All 2021 orders need to be honored at the agreed sales price and GM will need to eat the increased in cost if any. These orders should be the first 2022 scheduled for production.
GM stock holder.
It’s not the dealers’ fault either. We’re getting screwed just as much as you. At my store all canceled 2021 orders (below 3000) will be moved to first in line for 2022’s. We anticipated that this would happen so all individuals ordering 2022’s were informed about it.
UNDER TABLE SELLING FOR OVER LIST PRICE MAYBE IT IS!
I am getting a rapid blue, 3lt convertible, I made the mistake of spending $1000,s on parts for the car, they have been sat in the spare bedroom for months, that does not help, the waiting is terrible, the not knowing is way worse. One day hopefully .
All the while C7’s are going for big bucks! You can go buy it and drive it the same day. What a concept.
I really am ready for the wait…my dealer has been guessing August all along. HOWEVER. If we miss the cutoff will the price tag of the 2022 skyrocket to meet demand? I have a 1LT convertible on order with a sticker of $66,000ish….will that become a $70,000 car? I started out with an order for a $59,000 coupe…but then as a golfer realized Chevy had badly designed the storage for the top. Can someone tell me why there is room for a folding hardtop over the engine….but no room for a simple targa piece of plastic?
GM already bumped the MSRP $1000 in 2021. We’ll know (hopefully) in July when they unveil the details of the 2022 Stingray what prices will do. I wouldn’t expect a huge increase though, if any. The hard top fits quite nicely in the back of the coupe according to my experience.
he means golf clubs + roof in same spot
It’s a mid-engined American sports car for $70k. Can’t have everything.
Anyone interested in a Shadow grey 2 LT . Less than 400 miles. Johngkaras@gmail
What state are you in?
Florida
Check your email John, I just sent you one.
Why would you want to sell it already? Are you one of the many that just wants to turn a profit?
I bought this car on impulse. Put my name and deposit in with very large dealer that had a lot of allocation. Got car in 8 1/2 months. Buying another sports car. I’m not asking crazy money like you see on internet.
Ordered a2020 on 1/22/20 in longbch red then change to 2021 silver flare now I may change the color of my now2022 order! This is not funny as I am 79 and may die before I get my car.
I have a Blade silver 2020 and parked it next to a 2021 Silver Flare…. I prefer my silver, as did the 2021 owner.
many colors that the auto world is using look different, in different lighting. Blade Silver stays the same, Flare does some tone shifting. See one in real life before committing. CMG is another.
I’m in the same boat. Wish I could have afforded one when I was a lot younger!
I tell myself every morning that age is just a number. With a little luck we’ll be around long enough to really enjoy those great cars!
Good luck!!!!
How about lower case gm start manufacturing each and every Corvette component in the USA with American labor. Source it from local area’s where access will be nearly immediate.
Like everyone else I’m waiting, with the statement that orders of status 3000 and above will get their cars, makes me a little more at ease, as long as they don’t change I should get the one I ordered. And it seems if GM wants to get things back on track most of the sold orders should be produced by end of July or mid August.
MAYBE WE SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT THE POSSIBLE CORRUPTION AMONGST SELLING ORDERS OUT OF LINE????
Hey jerry t byrnes, hit the CAPS LOCK button on your keyboard please
According to previous GM reports, that should leave 5000 +- ’21’s left to build. The BGP was averaging 186 per day. If there are no more interruptions, all ’21’s should be completed in six weeks. This is all based on GM announcing they had 11k orders to fill when they ceased taking orders Mar. 25th, and what they had produced after the 25th prior to shut down. That means we should all be on the road by August………….yeah right.
HEY DAN
HOW MUCH ARE YOU WILL TO PAY FOR THAT ALL AMERICAN MADE C8 ?
MADE WITH ALL UNION PARTS
You think all those parts are made in the USA by Union workers? Lmao
Ordered a 2021 C8/2LT/Z51/Zeus Bronze Metallic on 12/14/2020. Took delivery on 5/3/2021. Dealer-Stasek/Wheeling IL is # 20 on top 100 corvette dealers in 2020, Top dealers get more allocation from GM, sell more vettes, move up in the ranking and get more allocation. Stasek delivers all over the country coast to coast. This is my 2nd vette from this dealer. Sales and service have been very good. Stasek did not attempt to add a premium to MSRP and put that in writing. They will pick and deliver for service for free. They cater to vette customers. Good trustworthy dealer.
Ordered a 2020, 2lt, HTC, on the 19th of February 2020. I have been told I would get a 2022, maybe , if all goes well !!!!! That means over 2 years wait. 🙁
Ordered a 2020, that was cancelled. Ordered a 2021 when first able to do so, now cancelled too. Will place an order for 2022 Porsche 911 GTS. Life is too short for GM b.s.
Wise choice GT. upgrade to an F8 in a year or so!!
My c8 3lt, convertible is still at 3000 status, been there since March, my dealer telling me I should have my car with in 6 weeks, he also telling me they have buyers willing to pay $20000 over msrp for a fully loaded one. It really looks like the crazy prices are here to stay for a while, on the plus side of waiting, my used truck went up $6500 , always a silver lining,
P,s why buy a Porsche, wait for your c8, people that have c8s are all saying it’s worth the wait, so stick with it..
I also went to 3000 status in March. Took delivery on May 14. However I am selling it and putting the net proceeds towards a new Porsche 911 Cabriolet.
Why you dumping it so quickly?
When will you ever be able to buy a Porsche at a big $ discount, with net profit for sale of Vette.
UPDATE.. Mine just went to 3300 status. Went to 3000 status in March.. My build week will be July 5th.. Hope they are not too hung over. lol
Snap, 3300 with a July 5th build date, guess it’s the week for rapid blue
There could well be a 2021 htc for sale in July, rapid blue, 3lt, fully loaded, side skirts, new front splitter, grill guards, wicker set for rear spoiler, black out kit for rear lights, carbon flash stripes, body colored panels, car will be ceramic coated. Moving north to the snow,
I am #3 on my dealers list was #9 when I started hope it gets here in August
