For the first time in many months, optional LPO-level, or dealer-installed, 22-inch wheels are now available to order for the 2021 GMC Yukon full-size SUV along with its long-wheelbase equivalent, the 2021 GMC Yukon XL.
Specifically, the four wheels now available are listed below, along with their RPO codes and trim levels to which they apply:
- SEW – six-spoke Midnight Silver machined-faced wheels with Chrome inserts – available on all models except AT4
- SGM – multi-spoke Gloss Black wheels – available on all models except AT4
- SEV – six-spoke Low Gloss Black wheels with machined accents – Denali only
- SF2 – multi-spoke Chrome wheels – Denali only
In January of this year, GM Authority exclusively broke the news that it was no longer possible to order optional 22-inch wheels for full-size GM pickup trucks and SUVs, including the GMC Yukon, 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks, the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, 2021 Chevy Suburban along with the 2021 Cadillac Escalade SUVs. This was due to constraints in the supply chain, which did not affect the availability of any 22-inch wheels fitted as standard.
In March, GM Authority further reported that this issue was not related to the production of the wheels. In fact, they had been sent out from the factories in China where they are made, and got as far as the port of Los Angeles, where there was a delay at customs. The containers carrying the wheels looked “like a skyscraper”, according to one observer.
In our follow-up report published in April, we reported that General Motors has begun flying the 22-inch wheels into the U.S. Since the cargo hold of an airplane is far less spacious than an ocean-going vessel, supply is much more limited than it would normally be, but at least the wheels are making their way into North America once more, and customers can now equip the large wheels on their new Yukons.
