Chevy Express Is Too Tall For Parking Garage, Driver Doesn’t Care: Video

While not every vehicle has the goods to elicit an intimate connection between car and driver, even the plainest of workhorses deserve at least a modicum of mechanical sympathy. Unfortunately for the Chevy Express featured in the following video, there’s no sympathy whatsoever displayed from the individual behind the wheel.

Recently posted online, this video comes to us from Louisville, Kentucky, per the video description. The video was captured on May 19th, 2021, in a local parking garage.

“I was on a break at work,” writes the person who shot the video. “I kept hearing a crashing sound. Then I realized it was a van too tall for the parking garage.”

Clocking in at just 24 seconds, the video is brief, but dramatic. It opens in the parking garage where we hear the sound of metal against concrete, with scratching and banging noises reverberating throughout the structure. We then see a Chevy Express van drive into frame, where it immediately smashes into the concrete overhang above.

The impact sounds nasty, buckling the Chevy Express and compressing the suspension as the driver pushes through. The individual behind the camera ducks into their car – a wise move with someone as reckless as this Chevy Express driver on the loose.

The van proceeds forward, repeatedly hitting successive concrete overhangs, all without slowing down. The individual shooting the video is perplexed, letting out a slow “what the f**k…?” as the Chevy Express rolls on.

The story behind this video is unclear, but there may be a method to the madness. Perhaps the Chevy Express driver had no choice but to repeatedly smash their way through the parking structure. Perhaps there was some unknown emergency prompting such wanton disregard for their vehicle.

Or, perhaps, the driver just doesn’t care.

Either way, watching this Chevy Express undergo such abuse conjures a mix of amusement, horror, and confusion. Experience it for yourself by hitting play on the video below:

  1. Stupid is what stupid does!

I will say, those parking garages can be tricky and scary at times. It’s difficult to know (guess) if a certain vehicle can actually make it under and I always feel anxiety when driving through them. Honestly, I try to avoid them when I can.

  2. Don’t these garages have a height gauge at the entrance? Better not park out in the rain with this van.

    1. You could probably consider all those noises they were hearing from the roof of the van as a form of height gauge too.
They clearly didn’t give a crap.

    1. Or stop and call a tow truck and take the wheels off and roll it out on a dolly.

  4. Had the driver lower the air pressure in all four tires the van probably would have made it through.
