The upcoming C8 Corvette Z06 has been filmed undergoing repeated acceleration tests at the GM Milford Proving Ground in Michigan, revealing its raspy, Ferrari-esque exhaust note.
The C8 Corvette Z06 has been filmed in the past, but this video gives us our best look yet at the upcoming high-performance Corvette model variant. The pre-production prototype in this video appears to be performing some launch control tests, with engineers doing several repeated full-throttle accelerations in a row. This allows us to hear the future track-ready Vette’s exotic-sounding exhaust note, which is comparable to the sound of a smaller displacement Ferrari V8.
As we reported previously, the C8 Corvette Z06 is expected to feature a naturally aspirated, 32-valve 5.5L V8 engine with a flat-plane crankshaft, which will be dubbed the LT6. This motor is loosely based on the architecture of the twin-turbocharged 4.2L V8 LTA Blackwing engine equipped in the now-discontinued Cadillac CT6-V, although the LT6 has a larger bore/stroke, ditches the turbochargers and introduces different heads and a flat-plane crank. The result is a lively 5.5L V8 engine with a sky-high 9,000 RPM rev limit, a power output of around 617 horsepower and a torque output somewhere between 480 pound-feet and 550 pound-feet. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission will send power to the rear wheels.
The track-ready Z06 will also feature revised widebody exterior styling, a massive rear wing and lightweight carbon fiber wheels as part of the optional Z07 performance package. Impressively wide rubber, measuring 275/30ZR20 out front and 345/25ZR21 in the rear, will ensure the Z06 can properly put the power down from its race-derived 5.5L V8 engine.
We’re expecting the C8 Corvette Z06 to makes its debut sometime this summer, likely in July. It will serve as a direct rival to other series production track-ready supercars like the Porsche 911 GT3 and Lamborghini Huracan Performante, though in true Corvette fashion, will come in at a lower price point than the competition.
GM Authority will have all the details on the C8 Corvette Z06 immediately following its debut, but for now, we’re inviting readers to get acquainted with the supercar’s raspy, exotic-sounding exhaust note in our exclusive spy video embedded below.

LAWD HAVE MERCY I’M BOUT TO BUSTTT!!!!
That sounds completely Awesome… I almost forgot I prefer EV’s…
Very nice 👍🏾
You know it’s got power when it squeals the tires not just at launch but also when changing gears!
As a C7 GS owner, I am chomping at the bit to see this monster get unveiled. Once I see the specs and price point, one will be parked in my garage. #BeastMode
You won’t see one until 2023 if you aren’t on a list already lol.
I just added myself to the list last week and I probably wont see mine until 3rd model year………sadness
Cannot wait
Sounds SOLID!!
A great piece of journalism, well written and well presented! Thank you, I’m looking forward to more, GM Authority is growing up!
Say what you want about flat plane engines not having torque, but if it’s chirping the tires in 2nd it sure as heck has enough!
Can’t wait to get mine. Hoping no options are on constraint when it comes out being that I can get the first one our dealer gets. Hoping to get a ZO7 with CF everything including wheels. I was the first person to put a deposit on a C8 but have passed on every allocation they have received on Stingrays. I hope it turns out to be worth the wait. I also have a deposit on there first ZR1. Thank you GM for building these amazing cars.
Why would the torque be soo low on it?
Electric EV version will destroy this in The short coming years, just a matter of time.
However at the lost of the beautiful sounds of the high revving flat plane exhaust tones.
Why would the torque be soo low on it?
Electric EV vette version will destroy this in The short coming years with its instant EV monster torque capabilities thruout the whole complete performance power curve instantaneously, just a matter of time.
However unfortunately, at the lost of the beautiful sounds of the high revving flat plane exhaust tones.
Wow, that F1 scream !!!!!
Guys the new corvette is already out in the street, I had one behind me yesterday in Bolton Ontario nice looking car.
But that car behind you is the Stingray. This variant is the Z06 which is a more potent ultra-high performance model we’re talking about here.
GM IS NUMBER ONE.
That sounded like a duel turbo V6. Have a listen to a Acura NSX. You will shocked they sound the same.
