American Expedition Vehicles has introduced a new front winch receiver bumper for the redesigned 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2.
The Chevy Colorado ZR2 received a new, more aggressive-looking front fascia for the 2021 model year, enhancing the truck’s rugged appearance. However, AEV says the updated one-piece front fascia “can’t be modified enough for an integrated winch mount to fit behind it without compromising structural integrity,” so the only solution is to replace the entire front bumper. That’s where AEV’s new front winch receiver bumper comes in, allowing Chevy Colorado ZR2 owners to easily mount a front winch to the off-road mid-size pickup.
“The AEV Front Receiver for the 2021+ Colorado ZR2 is a simple solution for customers who want to add a winch but do not want to replace the front bumper,” the company says on its website. “With the AEV Front Receiver installed, ZR2 owners will have the ability to use any winch/cradle combo they wish for a convenient and flexible self-recovery setup.”
The AEV front receiver accepts any slide-in winch cradle and mounts directly to the Chevy Colorado ZR2’s frame. Installation requires making a small cutout in the lower part of the front fascia to allow access to the two-inch square receiver. AEV says any brand winch/winch cradle will work with the receiver, but “it must be rated appropriately for the vehicle.” AEV also produces an In-Bed Winch Cradle Carrier that allows users to securely store their winch and cradle when it is not in use.
The AEV front winch cradle is priced from $599. The optional in-bed winch cradle, meanwhile, costs an additional $250.

Hmmm, I am not sure I like the bulky look of the winch hanging off of the front. Nor would I like to lift it on and off. My solution was to adapt AEV’s earlier hidden winch adapter for the 2015-2020 Colorado ZR2. Check out my installation on ZR2zone.
