The 2022 Chevy Silverado HD will be available with the automaker’s configurable Multi-Flex Tailgate solution across all trim levels.
In an announcement sent out this week, Chevy revealed the Multi-Flex Tailgate will be offered as an option on all 2022 Silverado HD models and trim levels. This will include the Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, High Country trim levels on the Silverado 2500HD and Work Truck, LT, LTZ and High Country on the 3500HD. The Multi-Flex Tailgate will also be offered in addition to the segment-exclusive Power Up/Down Tailgate option, which is available on the LT, LTZ and High Country trim levels for the Silverado HD.
This news follows the introduction of the Mutli-Flex tailgate for the 2021 model year Chevy Silverado 1500, which GM Authority was the first to report on. We also spied a Chevy Silverado HD prototype equipped with the Multi-Flex tailgate early last year, serving as an early hint that the Silverado HD was next in line to receive the unique tailgate solution.
Chevy’s Multi-Flex Tailgate operates the same as the GMC MultiPro tailgate, featuring five different positions for a variety of use cases. These five positions include:
- Primary Gate Access
- Primary Gate Load Stop
- Full Width Step
- Inner Gate Load Stop
- Inner Gate Work Surface
The Multi-Flex Tailgate can make life easier for workers and contractors, giving them easy access to the truck bed, enabling them to carry more items with the load stop and allowing them use their tailgate as a handy work surface, among more. The Multi-Flex Tailgate configurations can be activated using a key fob or the two tailgate-mounted buttons, one of which operates the full gate and the other operating the inner gate. There is also a power tailgate button on the interior instrument panel, allowing the user to control the Multi-Flex Tailgate from within the truck’s cabin.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado HD with the optional Multi-Flex Tailgate will be available in late summer. Pricing for the optional tailgate solution has not yet been announced, although it is offered as a standalone option on the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 at a cost of $595 USD.

To bad GM is so back logged with HD trucks right now you cant even order a 2021 and no Ordering for 2022 yet. Dealers i chatted with today about ordering a 3500 LTZ said it could be a year before i even see a truck if i could order one today.
Wondering how many owners of GM pickups equipped with this tailgate who regularly use their trucks to tow trailers have had to replace these Marvelously designed tailgates that get dented when the owner forgets to remove the trailer-drawbar from the receiver prior to lowering the tailgate.
some company actually makes a plug in module to prevent people from getting stupid.
I wonder if the normal tailgate is still available ? I wouldn’t have any need for that double jointed complicated over the top expensive menagerie piesa crap tailgate.
Power up and down tailgate what do you do next look stupid at the heavy items in the box?
Sure wish someone would make a retrofit of this for the Colorado.
