GM officially announced the Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) version of its Chevy Tahoe full-size SUV in May of 2020. News of the impending announcement was first reported by GM Authority. Today, we’re bringing you a live photo gallery of that very vehicle.
The exterior design is similar to that of a Chevy Tahoe in the Z71 trim level, with an aggressive front grille, a front skidplate and the Z71-specific lower front fascia that delivers superior approach angle.
In fact, without graphics or extra exterior equipment, it would be difficult to tell the difference between a regular 2021 Chevy Tahoe Z71 and the PPV version. However, close observers might notice the lower ride height created by shorter and stiffer springs. There’s also a unique set of black wheels, while those who venture closer to the vehicle will find a more subtle visual clue in the fitment of the V-rated Firehawk Pursuit all-season tires, which were developed jointly by General Motors and Firestone.
Unseen updates on this 2021 Tahoe include Brembo 16-inch brake rotors and six-piston front calipers along with a heavy-duty rear differential. GM’s 5.3L V8 L83 gasoline EcoTec3 engine has been modified slightly, with rocker covers from the 6.2L V8 LT4 motor (to improve crankcase ventilation) and a heavy-duty oil cooling system.
The 2021 Chevy Tahoe PPV also contains a lot of electronic equipment not normally featured in the civilian version of the SUV, as shown in a recent video. To power this equipment, GM has fitted a 760-amp auxiliary battery and a high-output alternator.
This special vehicle is manufactured at the GM Arlington plant in Texas, alongside the civilian versions of the Chevy Tahoe, 2021 Chevy Suburban, 2021 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL and the 2021 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV. Arlington is also the home of another specialty vehicle – the Chevy Tahoe Special Service Vehicle (SSV), which is optimized for slightly different duty compared to the PPV, focusing on off-roading and towing. Whereas the Tahoe SSV is available only with four-wheel-drive, the PPV can be ordered with either four-wheel-drive or rear-wheel-drive.

Looks good, heavy and expensive, no wonder cops around my area is switching to Dodge…..
You pay for what you get.
A lighter, less expensive police car?.
As a cop who drives a Charger, you definitely get what you pay for. We have Chargers going back to the dealer for new transmissions after only 900 miles. Others blowing engines before 5000 miles. Granted we’re obviously a lot harder on our cars than your average consumer, but still…
Don’t get me wrong, they’re fast and handle great (when they work…), but reliability, interior build quality, trunk space, and passenger cabin space are awful.
This is more confirmation to me that I should never buy a Chrysler product.
KS65, do you think Chevrolet should produce a Traverse PPV?
Tell that to the families of the 30+ officers who burned to death when their Crown Vic was rear ended at high speed and exploded.
You’re probably too young to remember that it got to the point that Ford started putting in an automatic fuel tank fire extinguishing system.
It’s also why the first title on Ford’s Police Interceptor web page is “75-MPH Rear-Impact Crash-Test Rated”
My city uses Chargers and Tahoes, replacing them at around 125,000 miles.Last gen Tahoes cost about 34k through the state pool and were sold to small town southern cities for around 20k.Chargers resale are in the toilet, your town elected officials maybe mopar fans.
Surprised Mary Barra isn’t worried about building vehicles for law enforcement and push back. Cool vehicle.
Can’t wait to see the EV version of this. With the electrical drain of 760 amp per hour, the batteries should last maybe 1 hour. Perfect for a vehicle used to “Protect & Serve”. Of course, there is always the long extension cord upgrade.
If only they had went with RST front facia. I don’t like Z71’s big open predator mount look.
No 6.2 offered, really do you think a cop wants a slow 5.3 under the hood. Wake up!
no 6.2 so they do not have to put premium in them and the added cost of the engine plus most police wont engage in high speed pursuits unless they are murders.
Wokexist gm’s latest PPV/tank? Loving the irony.
I get it now!
It’s the perfect vehicle for authoritatively parting the massive, unruly crowds of violent white supremacists overrunning our cities and towns threatening our Democracy! 😜
Jan 6th?…
A very comparatively few bad apples. Pure fodder for Wokexist propaganda. Nothing compared to your antifa mobs who continually get a free pass. Oh, poor Ted Wheeler. Damned no matter what he does and now facing death threats. No big deal, of course. Different rules for the political left – no rules, actually.
Wake up, dude.
I think it looks sharp!!
It does. The PPV is the one to have.
The best thing about the 2021 Tahoe compared to last years model is the huge 10 inch increase in the wheelbase. This is shown in the 3rd seat legroom which jumped from about 32 inches to jump to over 40 inches of legroom. This means that a 2021 Tahoe has about the same exterior length of the longer last years Suburban. Save money if buying a new Suburban by buying a Tahoe instead. The new longer 2021 Tahoe is about $3,000 to $4,000 cheaper than a 2021 Suburban. If you live in a city, the 2021 Sub will now be almost impossible to park in most meter parking spots. Even some municipal parking slots are too small even for a pickup truck let alone the older Tahoe.
Can’t wait to see these as fire chief vehicles since we don’t have Tahoes as cop cars here in San Diego.
