Wuling Unveils Its First Global Crossover

The 2020 calendar year was an inflection point for Wuling, as last year, General Motors’ best-selling brand in China completed renewed its image by launching its Global Silver logo and expanding its international market reach. Eight months after the debut of the new Wuling Victory MPV, SAIC-GM-Wuling just announced Wuling’s first next-generation global crossover.

SGMW unveiled the first official images of an all-new compact crossover, the second member of Wuling’s upcoming global product portfolio. The new utility vehicle, whose official name has yet to be revealed, will debut at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show and is unrelated to the off-road-ready Wuling Hong Guang X Concept presented last year.

Notably, this is the first of two global crossovers that Wuling will introduce this year, as GM Authority exclusively reported back in August 2020. Unofficial sources say the utility is 180.8 inches long, 71.6 inches wide, 68.5 inches tall and boasts a 108.3-inch wheelbase. These dimensions position it in the C segment, below the expected production version of the midsize Hong Guang X Concept.

The first images show that Wuling’s first next-generation global crossover has a balanced and rather understated design, with its own interpretation of the “wing dynamic aesthetics” design language of the family of vehicles wearing the silver logo. At the front, the new model features an angular shape with an oversized grille and segmented headlights, characterized by striking signature “spread wings” LED daytime running lights.

The Wuling crossover presents a refined side profile, with mostly straight lines and well-defined forms. The prominent D pillar’s shape stands out, which can be combined with chrome trim and a contrasting black roof. In addition, the rear features raised horizontal taillights connected together with a black trim panel that features the brand’s name.

Wuling’s first global crossover will be officially unveiled at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, which will open to the public from April 21st to the 28th in China’s largest city. At the event, SGMW will reveal all the technical details and features of the new model, which will seek to strengthen the brand’s sales leadership in China in addition to initiating its international deployment in emerging markets.
