As GM Authority has covered extensively in the past, General Motors is gearing up to release 30 new EV models by 2025, and now, The General has confirmed it is developing a new all-electric Chevy Silverado pickup truck.
In an announcement earlier today, GM stated that the new Chevy Silverado electric pickup truck will be built at GM’s Factory Zero assembly facility in Michigan, previously known as Detroit-Hamtramck. GM also confirmed that the recently unveiled GMC Hummer EV SUV will also be built at the Factory Zero facility.
GM says that it will offer both retail and fleet version of the new Chevy Silverado electric pickup, and expects the battery-powered truck “to be in high demand.” Specs will include a ground-up design specifically geared for all-electric power, leveraging GM’s latest Ultium technology for upwards of 400 miles per charge.
It is possible the new all-electric pickup may be called the Chevrolet Silverado E.
“The vehicles coming from Factory Zero will change the world, and how the world views electric vehicles,” said General Motors President Mark Reuss. “The GMC Hummer EV SUV joins its stablemate in the realm of true supertrucks, and Chevrolet will take everything Chevy’s loyal truck buyers love about Silverado – and more – and put it into an electric pickup that will delight retail and commercial customers alike.”
In addition to providing confirmation of the new Chevy Silverado electric pickup truck, GM also confirmed plans to deliver over 1 million electric vehicles globally by 2025.
“With the company’s Ultium Platform, virtual development tools and technology, GM has reduced vehicle development times by nearly 50 percent to just 26 months,” the automaker states.
Back in January, GM announced that it had earmarked $2.2 billion in upgrades for the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant in order to produce a range of new all-electric trucks and SUVs. In addition to building the new Chevy Silverado electric pickup truck, the GMC Hummer EV pickup, and the GMC Hummer EV SUV, Factory Zero will also produce Cruise Origin, GM’s first purpose-built all-electric fully autonomous robo taxi.
