As GM Authority has covered in the past, many of the assist steps offered on 2021 Chevy Silverado and 2021 GMC Sierra pickup trucks are currently unavailable to order due to supplier constraints. Now, however, General Motors expects the assist steps will once again be available in the near future.
Currently, the assist steps with impacted availability include (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):
- Black Tubular Assist Steps, six-inch rectangular (RVQ)
- Black Tubular Assist Steps, four-inch round (RVS)
- Off-Road Black Assist Steps (S6L)
- Black Work Assist Steps (VQO)
- Chromed Tubular Assist Steps, six-inch rectangular (VXH)
- Chromed Tubular Assist Steps, four-inch round (VXJ)
Availability for these items varies between the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500, 2021 GMC Sierra 1500, and 2021 GMC Sierra HD. Additionally, some of these items are still available in conjunction with specific trim levels and packages. For example, the six-inch rectangular Black tubular assist steps (RVQ) are available when ordered as part of the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation Black Package (PDF), while the Chromed Tubular assist steps are still available as part of the Assist Step and Floor Liner Package (PDR) offered on SLE and SLT trims of the 2021 GMC Sierra HD.
The timeframe for the renewed availability of the assist steps offered for the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra is expected to coincide with availability of GM’s 22-inch wheel options. As GM Authority covered previously, there is currently a widespread shortage of LPO-level (dealer-installed) 22-inch wheels, also due to constraints in the supply chain. However, like the assist steps covered above, the 22-inch wheels are expected to become available again around late April or early May.
