The first retail production 2020 Corvette Convertible attracted $400,000 worth of bids at the recent Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction, with all proceeds from the sale benefitting the United Way for Southeastern Michigan.
As we noted in a previous article, the first 2020 Corvette Convertible to roll off the production line at GM Bowling Green Assembly is a Black 3LT trim level model with an Adrenaline Red Napa leather interior. Other options ordered on the vehicle red seat belts, GT2 bucket seats, a visible carbon fiber front splitter, visible carbon fiber rocker extensions, a Performance Data Recorder and the must-have Z51 Performance Package.
As a reminder, the 2020 Corvette Convertible is powered by a 6.2L LT2 V8 engine, which routes power to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. With the Z51 Performance Package equipped, the 6.2L V8 engine produces 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. Without the performance exhaust on the vehicle, the LT2 V8 makes 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque.
All $400,000 from the proceeds of this auction will go to the United Way for Southeastern Michigan, which works to raise money and implement programs to improve the community in the Metro Detroit area. It’s not clear who purchased the first retail production 2020 Corvette Convertible, although NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick is known for picking up the first examples of new GM performance cars – particularly Corvettes. Hendrick purchased the first production 2020 Corvette Stingray coupe at a Barrett-Jackson auction last year for $3 million, with all proceeds from that sale benefitting the Detroit Children’s Fund educational charity.
Similarly, Mecum Auctions attempted to auction off the last production 2020 Corvette coupe at its Kissimmee sale earlier this year. That Sebring Orange example failed to reach the set minimum reserve price after attracting $140,000 in bids, however, and was not auctioned off to a new owner at the event.
