The Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra collectively missed out on the best-selling spot in the full-size pickup truck segment during the first quarter of 2021. A combined 189,508 units of full-size GM trucks – the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra – were sold during the first three months of 2021, 14,289 units less than the 203,797 deliveries reported for the Ford F-Series range, which includes the F-150 as well as the Super Duty range.

By comparison, the F-Series saw a 9 percent increase in sales volume, which we attribute to the all-new, 14th-gen 2021 F-150 gaining traction in the market due to heightened consumer awareness along with a more stabile inventory and supply compared to the previous quarter.
Comparatively, supply of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra “was tightly bound”, according to GM Vice President of U.S. Sales, Service and Marketing, Steve Hill. As such, it seems safe to conclude that the two GM trucks would have sold even better had supply been more favorable.
Overall GM sales increased 4 percent to 642,250 units during Q1 2021 as the Detroit-based automaker along with the auto industry as a whole navigated a very difficult landscape stemming from challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. All automakers, including GM, faced a semiconductor shortage, which stems from disruptions to the supply chain during the pandemic.

What do you expect with that cheap, crappy interior? It’s time for it to go before more sales are lost to RAM.
Uhmmm, have you been paying attention? The reason that chevy isnt selling vehicles in general is because they are running out of inventory on lots. Look at autotrader online, drive by you local chevy dealer, almost no new cars And absolutely no new trucks. Sales are lost due to inventory and lack of incentives. GM has had a trifecta of problems with this gen of trucks production, 2week union strike followed by a pandemic followed by a chip shortage. And no, the interior isn’t one of their problems. A side to side comparison of ram vs Chevy interiors BASED OFF PRICE!
Tradesman vs WT-RAM advantage
Tradesman vs Custom- chevy advantage
Bighorn vs LT&RST-chevy advantage
Bighorn premium vs LTZ-chevy advantage
Laramie vs High country-chevy advantage
Longhorn trim-no chevy or gmc equal
Limited trim-no chevy or gmc equal
Once again, this is based off price. If you option the RAM limited all the way past 70k, it’s closest GM compeois the Denali carbon pro package, which yes while being over 70k, is a far superior vehicle in every aspect except interior. Bulletproof bed, 6.2 engine, 10 speed transmission, multi-pro tailgate, active shocks, the two vehicles are incomparable except for price.
That whole nonsense about poor chevy interiors was made up by motor trend who say whatever their biggest advertiser is. In this case RAM paid them to diss the silverado because they didn’t think they could convince many ford fanboys. Just like every comparison they do these days has a Mazda product, and mazda always wins the competition, yet no one actually buys their cars cause they suck 😝. Or it’s like the Porsche vs Corvette, and the Corvette sweats the floor with the Porsche, for half the price, and Motor trend hands the win to porches, because “it gives a greater sense of uniqueness behind it’s wheel”. Load of Bull****
Amen. The interiors are laughable and its negative impact may be finally catching up. I hoping for something really nice, GM. If it’s a copy of the Tahoe/Yukon, that won’t cut it. You need to beat RAM’s. Secondly, I don’t buy the chip shortage excuse because its impact is felt industry-wide- not just GM. However, if someone from the spin camp has real data on the vendor/model/spec of chips used for GM pickups and can prove those chips’ total supply were lower than competitors AND were running out at a faster rate, I’m all ears.
You can see it with factory shift closures. GM has been slowing output for for over a month now, and you can see their dealer lots are almost empty. Ford has announced only a few shift changes up until this past week when they announced a major cutback in production of the F-series due to chip shortages. Its almost as if GM was already short and the supply tanked them. Right now i see a good number of the new fords on lots. we shall see if they continue with the pace or if their inventory starts dwindling as well.
Let’s hope the next generation is better. If they make a Chevy truck that doesn’t hurt my eyes again, I will be interested.
Never been a fan of motor trend i too believe their OPINIONS are based on who helps pay their bills. Between GM trucks and Dodge ram who is owned by who ever it is now? I would pick the GM they may be a little better leastways when it comes between those two.
That didn’t take long, guess when you sit in the parents basement you have time to constantly check postings.
The interior design plays little to the sales slow down, try reading some articles before posting the same thing every time. The new interior coming won’t change the sales much, they are still sales leaders and being bought in droves. I really hope they don’t listen to basement dwellers like yourself and the suburban dad that has no use for a truck but wants a dolled up interior like the Dodge, that will ruin the ergonomics and the reliability as the Dodge boys already have durability issues in their pretty interiors. Give it a nip and tuck, keep the layout somewhat similar and make a few more higher end tough points for the complainers that have no business in truck but please don’t ruin the ability to easily use and find everything.
Also, please grow up and stop posting the same thing in every bloody post. You know I think there is an article about cap-less gas fill that you haven’t commented on how “crappy” the truck interiors are.
Interior is the problem. I bought my 2014 in 2013 as soon as it came out and I was ready to upgrade in 2019 until I seen the inside looked the same but the price increased. I couldn’t see myself upgrading to a truck that looked the same inside as the old model.
The interiors are so much worse in the new trucks. We have a 2018 and a 2020. Not even close in comparison, Worst interior by far in this class of truck, the Colorado and Canyons might honestly be better (in terms of feel). So much cheap plastic everywhere in the 2019+ full size trucks and the seats are horrible, even the Denali Leather is horrible, looks cheap, and its wearing so much faster in our 2020 with 6000 miles than it is in our 2018 with 51000 miles. They added a bunch of cameras, and took that cost out of the interior quality.
I used to own a 2008 LT Z71 Chevy Silverado and then a 2014 LT Z71 Chevy Silverado. I now own a 2020 LT Z71 Chevy Silverado. I buy them because I like the way they look, I Iike the way they ride and handle, on and off the road. I’ve never had any issue besides my dvd player in my 2014. The interior is ergonomically good with me, I don’t need a fancy interior or a complicated stereo system to fiddle around with while I’m driving from one job site to another. The reason I purchased the Z71’s is because I never know where my job might take me (where I’ll have to drive). If GM decides to upgrade to a fancier interior, I hope it’s ergonomically friendly. Trust and believe, GM is not losing an inch of market share because a few people think Chevy Silverado has a crappy interior. General Motors truck commands 33% of the market because their trucks are RELIABLE, they look good and they handle and ride well. 22% of the market share belongs to Chevy Silverado truck alone, so they must be doing something correct. I know for a fact all the time, engineering and money spent (that the average person would not believe) in the engineering department and on Durability Test and Development. They run test on any and everything because the people that work there wanna get it right all the time. They test everything from the engine to the body paint and metal for corrosion, they even test the competition. The reason I know is because I used to work @ the General Motors Proving Ground up in Milford as a test driver for over 20 years, spent my first 10 years in their Truck & Coach plant before that, all before I retired.
I’ve seen a lot………..peace.
I guess “Steven” needs to get out in real world ! Ram interior isn’t the only reason for 50,000 + sales over chevy! Ram has same chip and inventory problems
I’ll bet even the new gm truck interiors won’t match RAM because GM is to damn cheap and their spending all their money on Mary’s 100k Lectrics. Vehicles that the common person can’t afford.
They spent the money on actual truck stuff (bed, frame, drivetrain durability) as they had positive feedback from actual truck users on how the layout was excellent ergonomically, so they gave it a nip/tuck and put money where it actually benefited truck owners and those that use them for trucks. Now all of a sudden a bunch of suburban dads who love the angular tough looks but wanted a dolled up interior like their neighbors Ram (that is having many quality and durability issues) are crying and whining, the same guys that have zero use for a truck are the ones pricing those out who actually need and use a truck. You know the guys, the one with the off road package that is sparkly clean underneath, running around on levelled or lifted box checker versions (Platinums, Laramie Long Horns and High Country’s) with 20″+ black after market Fuel wheels and aggressive bro dozer tires (usually KO2’s). This is why is making the most noise and it is sad…
Staying competitive in the high end truck segment is simply commonsense. (pun intended lol). GM could build a model above the Denali and easily sell everyone it could produce. If you truly think GM doesn’t need to improve their high end truck interiors then your not paying attention, as the saying goes “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” Just because you have no need or want for a loaded truck does not make it a bad decision for everyone else. Your still free to choose a trim level that best fits your needs and budget. As you stated there are always going to be those who don’t really need a truck, that said it’s their money, and if they enjoy owning a truck it’s certainly their right to do so. I get it, trucks are getting very expensive, just like everything else in this crazy world. There are far more factors at play effecting pricing than just high end trucks and those who own them. I know plenty of guys, myself included that use and need a truck but enjoy them well equipped and modified. (aftermarket wheels, tires etc.) Make no mistake, just because it’s kept clean, high end and modified does not automatically mean it’s not used as a truck. Different strokes for different folks!
You can’t say here how CHEAP they are. Chevy is the worst truck in the market by far.
I remember a time when Chevy sold twice as many truck as the RAM. Now, Ram is outselling Chevy. It’s unbelievable.
Food for thought…..
A very close friend of mine has owned the top rated body shop in town for years. He just told me he has four F-150’s in his shop …..as they are “half fixed” …….
This is do to unavailable parts from FMCO
Now before I bought my Silverado High Country last month I stopped at one of the biggest Chevy dealers in Florida to find a Silverado. The salesman walked me outside to a HUGE empty lot and proceeded to tell me that this is where all of his Silverado’s are SUPPOSED to be!!!!
That this “chip shortage” is true and his truck salesman are leaving as there’s NO Silverado’’ to sell……
Mines a ((new) 2020 and I just drove it to our mountain cabin and back 1,200 miles……rides like a cloud and that 6.2 motor will haul the mail when you kick it!!!!
Love my Silverado High Country
This shortage of everything is killing our economy…….Thank You Joe Biden and followers!!!
Yah, but I bet your disappointed in that cra pay interior.
Love my GMC denali. Interior is good. Go buy your ram shocknstupid
Blame it on biden like he blames Trump
I work at gm and build these trucks. There is a chip shortage but at this time it is not affecting us. We had one weekend off and one Sunday cancelled so far. As for the interior it is cheap especially the seats. Anyone buying the T1 trucks 2019 plus. I feel bad for you. I have a 2020 gmc and it is a tin can compared to previous models.
Bert- absolutely the seats are horrible….. side bar—Maybe you can help us with the leaky rear window issue in the 2019+ models…any thoughts on that??
Shoulda bought a RAM Bert!

I have a 21 denali, previously a 2018 Ram Laramie. The Ram was nicer, but the GMC isn’t that bad. It’s grown on me. Lots of kick ass features on the GMC. The GMC also is dead sexy.
Gary, you did well till you blamed the chip shortage on Biden. I suppose he caused Covid too, because that is the real problem. Stick to trucks and lay off the politics. You make more sense that way.
I agree with pro GM posts. Though The interior is alittle on the chintzy side, my 2017 Denali seemed to have a better overall interior, the 2021 Denali is still beautiful. I bought it for its abilities to tow reliably and comfortably and it totally fits the bill. I am going to look when the 2023 comes out to see if its worth getting but it has to be alot better if I’m going to trade up
One things we all agree on, that cheap, crappy interior gotta go! The sooner, the better.
You can’t afford one.
Money sitting in the bank just waiting for new interior, still don’t think it’ll compare to RAM after redesign.
Well, what are you waiting on?, C ya!.
I’ll say this One more time. This website sucks
Hehe!
You think it sucks as much as gm crappy truck interiors?
GM is terrible. I have owned 2 YukonXl Denali and 2 GMC Sierra 2500 trucks. NEVER AGAIN!! The last one was a 2008 GMC YUKON XL Denali was a complete POS LEMON NEVER BUYING GM EVER AGAIN!! This is a public service announcement!! Buyers please be aware for your sake. Or not your call. Peace to all
Chevy took the v6 and v8 out of their best selling model the custom and left us with a 4banger. They want everybody to buy the higher models with the v8 for more profit. Nobody wants the long term problems the 4 banger will have.
The Tundra will outlast all of them. My 2007 TRD is approaching 300K. The only thing I’ve done is the brakes. Everything else is from the factory. I keep the title in the glove box just in case I see white smoke and it’s a wrap.
There aren’t enough being sold to make a difference. 19,000? What a joke.
After reading all the comments these are my thoughts. Slope the hood and fenders to give better visibility. Use better grade materials in construction of the seats for a more comfortable seating position. Info screen does not need to be like Rams way to big but GM could use a little bit bigger screen . Also give the option for a rubber liner in the cab for cleaning even on the upper model trims.
Chevy makes a great truck. But this last gen body style is a little ugly in the lower trims. Both the 1/2 ton and HD. I love my 14 Silverado. Great truck. My mom has a 2020 Silverado LT. It’s a great truck. Just a little ugly.
I live in Victorville California . Chevy most of the time you see about 20 or 30 trucks in a Chevy dealer but right now there’s maybe 4 or 5 trucks that’s it, there is no inventory.
