The 2020 Chevy Bolt EV has received a 2021 Automobile Association of America Car Guide Award for its advanced battery-electric powertrain and other innovative technologies.
The annual AAA Car Guide “ranks and rates the latest in vehicle technology, including alternative fuel vehicles,” the non-profit says. Recipients of the AAA Car Guide Awards usually represent the most advanced vehicles in their segment from a technological standpoint. AAA says the majority of the category winners for 2021 are either electric, plug-in hybrids or hybrids “since manufacturers tend to load up these with the newest in safety technology.”
The 2020 Chevy Bolt EV won the ‘Small’ category in the AAA Car Guide awards, which includes subcompact and compact cars available for sale in the United States, and also won the ‘Best $35,000-$50,000’ category. The ‘Overall’ category was won by another battery-electric crossover offering, the Tesla Model Y.
AAA researchers applauded the Chevy Bolt EV for its efficient electric powertrain and 66 kWh lithium-ion battery, which provides a very respectable driving range of 259 miles. The judges also liked the Bolt’s “fun-to-drive” personality, smooth acceleration and nimble handling. As for weak points, AAA found the Bolt’s interior to be “relatively plain,” and “verging on low rent,” for a car costing $40,000 before incentives, although they liked its neatly arranged controls, attractive digital instrument cluster and crisp infotainment screen. They also bemoaned the Bolt’s small rear cargo area, lack of rear passenger HVAC vents and the strange back seat ingress/egress.
The Chevy Bolt EV received a comprehensive update for the 2022 model year that included revised exterior styling and an overhauled interior with new seats and a larger infotainment screen. The vehicle rides on the same BEV2 platform as the 2021 model and features the same permanent magnetic drive motor, which is rated at 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. The 66 kWh lithium-ion battery provides an EPA-estimated 259 miles of range. The updated 2022 Bolt EV will begin arriving at Chevy dealers this summer.

This will be my next car.
what will your next gender be?
This is politically correct.
Perfect car for a round earth egg head in an ivory tower.
Battery envy? You can get counseling for that.
It’s a great car you will love it. We have had our Bolt EV for three years. It’s been flawless with zero issues. We even took it on a 2500 mile round road trip with no issues.
What about a 25,000 mile road trip? Both coasts, both international borders? bet your bolt can’t do that.
Your gonna need AAA to tow this dud when the battery runs out.
People still not believing EV cars/SUV are the future… for most daily commuters EV will just work fine. With growing up chargers network and them EV getting faster charging… no issues driving long trips. I have the Volt and I love it. Next might be the Bolt. Still solid car!
