C8 Corvette ZR1 Rumored To Produce 805 Horsepower, New Report Indicates

A new report published by Australian automotive publication Wheels Magazine may shed more light on the powertrain that will power the upcoming C8 Corvette ZR1.
According to Wheels, the C8 Corvette ZR1 will feature a twin-turbocharged version of the naturally aspirated 5.5L flat-plane crank V8 that will appear in the C8 Corvette Z06 – itself a variation of the 5.5L V8 motor that powers the Corvette C8.R race car. The publication says the twin-turbo 5.5L V8 engine will be dubbed LT7 and will produce up to 805 horsepower and 848 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission will route the internal combustion engine’s power to the rear wheels.
The new Wheels report also goes into detail on the C8 Corvette ZR1’s chassis and bodywork. The future model variant will allegedly get wider front and rear tracks, Corvette C8.R-inspired aerodynamic elements, sticky Michelin tires and available carbon fiber wheels. Massive carbon-ceramic brake rotors and hugely powerful 10-piston front brake rotors will help bring the widebody package to a stop. Additionally, Wheels says the ZR1 will only be available with a removable hardtop roof – a departure from the C7 Corvette, which was available in both coupe and soft top convertible body styles. The cabin will apparently feature lightweight performance seats as well.
We have yet to see other C8 Corvette model variants that will come before the ZR1, like the hybrid E-Ray and track-ready Z06 for example, so it will be quite a while before we receive any official information on this rumored new twin-turbo beast. For that reason, we’d take this intel with a grain of salt – although it’s interesting to see the rumor mill churning for the ZR1 so far ahead of its expected market arrival later this decade.

Wow! The base model is already fast. I can’t imagine how these Corvettes can get any faster and take on every super car on the planet. I am impressed. And I can’t wait for the reviews. I just wish I could afford one.
The C8 could be faster after someone takes ownership! Hotrodders usually do. In my opinion: The 5.7L is always going to be better than their 5.5L by the way Americans build them. Only if we/Americans build it; It could be 1000+ HP or higher (Given the right material-parts, Lubrication).
Why !!!
Why not?
OK,tell me where are you going use that much HP.
To be the fastest 80 yr old in the retirement community 🙂🙃🙂……
Or to the cemetery
dude take your skirt off
I like skirts, especially under them, but you’re the driver with lack of maturity I’m referring to. Wouldn’t want to be in the passenger seat with 1000 hp under your foot.
Sounds like the C8 ZR1 will be so fast that, if I were to buy one, I could get to the Country Club, before I leave home !!!!
You sound like a jealous person who can not afford one.
You sound like a Democrat
Democrats would buy a Prius
Git r done
I like the C8. The only problem is that they’ve toned down everything for the current generation. The C8 Z06 will end up being a successor to the C7 Grand Sport, the C8 ZR1 will replace the C7 Z06, and the Zora will replace the C7 ZR1.
I wonder will Porsche customers cross shop the Corvette?
I love the looks of the Vette and the performance of the Vette. But will it be just as good with a 100,000 miles.
The jury is still out on weather the powertrain is reliable.
Community question: I have $30K to spend on my 40th Birthday Car. Porsche 911 Carrera S used nonturbo or Corvette Z06 used? Plan to keep stock and just drive on the weekends. Which one will gain in value and be the most reliable? Thanks in advance
Get the Vette.
Make payments or buy a used C8.
You can get a fairly low mileage c6z for 30k, I don’t really see it falling in value, should hold at least. C5Z have held for the past decade
Get the Vette! Those European cars are really expen$$$ive when they break down…
As a Porsche owner I could emphatically say, no, I would not buy the ZR1. Why? Because I used to own a Corvette and it nickle & dimed me to death. Yes a Porsche is expensive to maintain and it is quite unsettling to pay $300 bucks for an oil change but other than routine maintenance the car is reliable as an anvil. As for the 80 year old gentleman that wants to purchase the C8 ZR1 I want to watch him getting in and out of the of it a few times. Even my Porsche is no picnic with the ergonomics.
1. The one that is driven most will loose more value.
2. How will climate change impact ICE values.
3. Electric impact?
4. Will either discontinue ICE altogether?
5. What will you pay and when will you sell?
6. So many uncertainties and unknowns.
7. Which one will be more fun to you?
No doubt the Corvette will be more reliable. My Corvette is approaching 100,000 miles. The only problem I ever had was a glitch with the freaking blinkers.
Go for the Vette.
This website had info on the twin turbo 5.5 liter about 2 years ago. As i recall, even the Camaro was tested using a 5.5 liter non turbo version of that ZO6 engine. Will GM offer a new Z28 Camaro with the 5.5 liter engine? Will GM offer a drag race version of the Z28 with the twin turbo 5.5 liter version? GM could offer just 200 cars with the twin turbo 5.5 liter for those racers who will put these versions front and center before the public, not just in the U.S. but around the world. The brag race version could offer lightweight front end body parts and a non-glass windshield to reduce the weight for the drag race version or even the road race version. With the carbon fiber wheels from the Vette, it will be super fast going through and coming out of the corners in road racing. GM might build them without heaters and air conditioning to try to prevent their use as street driving cars. Sign me up, i don’t mind sweating.
Camaro Z28 project was cancelled. Not enough sales. As always, GM’s reaction to poor sales isn’t to improve a product but to quit.
Him so will this line up leave the Zora E Ray the top car with about 1,000 hp? That is about all that is left with no hints yet.
I would expect a Camaro will be offered with this engine in some form.
A. On performance version could end up in a truck too as the extra cams could help on emissions.
Emissions is a nebulous, abused, and now worthless word.
I love how all these posts put down the Corvette HP climbing, and asking why it is even needed.
Well, Simple answer is it is FUN, but you have to be able to afford one, which most likely the ones complaining can’t.
Drivers must have the necessary skills and maturity to handle that much power, and those are few and far between. Also use it on a track, not on public roads.
If you have these and the $$ to buy one, then go have fun.
I wonder if it would break the 2 second mark to 60 with all that power. I mean look what’s done with 500 horses? Maybe 2.3-2-.5? It would be awesome if it could get closer to 2.0 or 1.9.. I know it’s not all about the launch of course.. but It’s exciting. I will be looking for more updates..
The 1000 HP sounds cool, but really, I have a problem with a silent electric car.
I think I will stick with the old fashioned current C8, with classic loud exhaust and emissions.
The emissions, even on the 805hp are moot. Not enough emissions worth the cost of destroying our economy over. Electric is going to prove itself much more harmful to our sovereignty than it is beneficial.
Dan, you are sooo correct ! If only the idiots in power cared…..
I can’t wait to park an electric Corvette in my garage. It will smoke any ICE Corvette and it pisses off just the right people.
I love my Corvette, and love watching people who will never afford one try to put the car down.
Who cares what others think? If you like a car then enjoy driving it.
Come a long way from my 86 roadster with 240 horse. The most popular north american sports car deserves the most available horsepower.
Long live the corvette and ZR series.
Keeping it RWD? What could go wrong?
It is exactly 70 horsepower short nat 805. C’mon Barra, step up and honor your title.
