2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV To Offer Power Station

The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV will be offered with an onboard electric generator-like function called the Power Station that will be able to draw 3 kilowatts of power from the vehicle’s battery.

General Motors says the Power Station can turn the GMC Hummer EV SUV into a handy power source when out on backcountry trails and can also serve as a backup power supply in the event of a power outage. The system, which enables customers to utilize up to 3 kilowatts of power from the vehicle, will be available on the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1, as well as the tri-motor EV3X and dual-motor EV2X models.

The optional Power Station for the GMC Hummer EV SUV is evocative of the onboard power generator that Ford has developed for the F-150 pickup. The Ford generator, dubbed Pro Power Onboard, is available in 2.0 kilowatt and 2.4 kilowatt versions, while the F-150 Hybrid model has an optional 7.2 kilowatt generator. The 2.0 kilowatt and 2.4 kilowatt systems give the user access to two handy 120-volt outlets, while the more powerful 7.2-kilowatt system has four 120-volt outlets and one 240-volt outlet.

Full details on the outlet setup for the GMC Hummer EV Power Station aren’t available, but the automaker says it will feature both 120V and 240V outlets. Users will also be able to charge another electric vehicle through the 240V outlet at 19.2 kW AC.

“The new available Power Station generator offers significant external powering capabilities to power off-road adventures and more,” the automaker said in a statement. “With enhanced vehicle hardware, the Hummer EV SUV can jump charge another electric vehicle at 240v/25A/6kW and power a variety of equipment and accessories at 120v/25A/3kW.”

The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV made its official debut during television coverage for the NCAA Final Four over the weekend. The Hummer EV SUV rides on the same BT1 platform as the Hummer EV pickup, taps GM’s Ultium batteries and Ultium motors and will feature the latest GM tech, such as an enhanced version of the hands-free Super Cruise driver-assistance technology. Production will begin at the GM Factory Zero plant, previously known as the GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant, in early 2023. Prices for the Edition 1 model will start at $105,595 including destination.

  1. Funny how towing and related battery capacity are not a part of the Hummer launch information.

    1. You probably wouldn’t want to tow with this. But maybe a 22” or short boat or small Air Stream. This thing would probably get 100 miles max range.

      You’re better off keeping a diesel truck for that.

      I’m just disappointed that Ford is putting this tech in their trucks. GM needs to top it off on their realistic trucks

      1. Not completely true. For vehicles like Tesla towing kills them because they are very aerodynamic, so towing a brick behind has a very negative effect on range. For the Hummer EV, its shape has already dealt with some of the negative effects (i.e. it’s already a brick). So towing a brick will not have such a huge range hit. So I imagine a 350 mile Hummer could make it 250 miles towing something.

        1. Electric motors have terrible torque for towing, that’s why the batteries run down in minutes. That’s why trains are powered by diesel.

          1. Trains are Diesel-Electric – meaning they have a GenSet on board to provide the electricity and the motive power is 100% electric on trains….

            Therefore, obviously Melania – what you said is totally moronic.

            Enough torque from the electric motors to pull a train…. You’ve never seen a subway? Those are 100% electric also, but skip the genset.

    2. What’s the benefit to GM at this point to show their hand? Their competitors would love to know so they can increase theirs by 2%. There’s a reason GM put “+” on the range. I guarantee the vehicles will go further than the 250 or 300-mile range.

  5. 3 kW is low for an EV with such a big battery. The supposed “generator” is just a DC to AC inverter. My own 2014 Fusion Hybrid has a 1.8 kW (120 VAC at 15 A) inverter but with a small battery. The F-150 Hybrid has a 7 kW inverter and I expect the F-150 EV to have a much powerful inverter. GM has to do better or it will lose greatly the electric truck war.

  6. It looks badazzz and why does everyone expect GM to only make inexpensive cars? Nobody is bashing the overpriced English junk or Beamer, Audi and Merc for making some of the fastest depreciating paper weights ever made.

  7. So when you take your $105K EUV on the “back country trails”, then it runs out of battery, cause you used your generator to provide power for your camp site, then what? Better hitch up a solar panel trailer so you can possibly recharge, or maybe if you are lucky, you’ll have some cell bars left to call a buddy with a Jeep (powered by petrol) to come rescue you. Most likely if you are rich enough to afford one, and you want one, you will probably never venture out to the back country anyways!

    1. Don’t know what trails you go on, but many of the popular ones aren’t far from civilization, so charging isn’t a problem.

  8. More nonsensical comments from GM – that is assuming GMA is reporting this accurately…. I doubt it because they wouldn’t have written the TOTAL CONTRADICTION in the same paragraph had the writer been paying any attention at all:

    I suspect the GM release is the More Accurate, and it is GMA who is clueless…. You cannot charge at both 6 kw and at 19.2 kw and have BOTH figures be right…. Seeing as the 120 volt capacity drops by half – it seems their inverter is only good for 25 amperes at either voltage, and the GM official release statement is the only one that makes sense.

    The only thing reported here several months ago is that the ULTIUM – based vehicles (namely the Lyriq) – would have 19 kw ‘available charging’. The same type of statement was made concerning the 2022 BOLT EUV with ‘available 48 ampere’ (around 11 kw) charging’, but then GM decided to make 48 amperes the smallest charging rate available on the lowest cost cars. So the Lyriq will supposedly have ’19 kw’ charging either standard or optional at extra cost – no further information has been forthcoming.

    That’s not to let GM totally off the hook – sometimes even AFTER the car is released they get the info in the brochures incorrect – as a for instance the 2017 Bolt EV said it will charge at 7.2 kw with a 32 ampere, 240 volt wall box. Anyone who passed 2nd grade mathematics will have a problem with that statement – and I’ve seen my vehicle charge at a 7.7 kw rate – I’m not sure exactly what the upper limit is, but I suspect I was close to it.
