2022 GMC Terrain vs. 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander: Dimensional Comparison

Earlier this week, we compared the dimensions of the 2022 Chevy Equinox with one of its newest and most up-to-date rivals, the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander. Now we’re going to see how the Japanese crossover compares to another compact crossover from General Motors, the 2022 GMC Terrain.
Exterior Dimensions
Like the Equinox, the 2022 GMC Terrain has a longer wheelbase than the Mitsubishi Outlander. The Terrain’s wheelbase measures in at 107.3 inches, while the Outlander’s is slightly shorter at 106.5 inches. The Outlander is 3.1 inches longer than the Terrain when accounting for the bodywork of the crossovers, however, and is also 2.3 inches wider and 3.3 inches taller. The Outlander also has wider front and rear tracks and 0.4 inches more ground clearance than the Terrain.

Interior Dimensions
As a result of its larger exterior dimensions, the Outlander is more spacious inside as well. The Mitsubishi has an extra 0.6 inches of first-row headroom on the Terrain, along with an additional 0.8 inches of first-row legroom. It also has an extra 0.7 inches of first-row shoulder room, although the Terrain beats it with regard to first-row hip room with an additional 0.4 inches of space.
It’s a similar story with second-row spaciousness. The Outlander gets an additional 0.6 inches of second-row headroom along with 0.2 inches more legroom. It also has an extra 0.3 inches of second-row shoulder room and 1.5 inches more hip room.

Just like the Equinox, the GMC Terrain has no third row. That means the Mitsubishi has it beat in this regard, although the Outlander’s third row is still quite small. For reference, third-row passengers of the Outlander will have 34.5 inches of total headroom, 18.7 inches of legroom, 51.2 inches of shoulder room and 42.1 inches of hip room.

Cargo Dimensions
Now let’s turn our attention to the crossovers’ cargo areas. The Outlander boasts 11.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 33.5 cubic feet of space with the second row folded flat and 79.7 cubic feet with all the rear seats folded down. The Terrain, meanwhile, has 29.6 cubic feet of space behind the second row and 63.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear benches folded.

Pricing for the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander starts at $26,990. While GM has not announced pricing for the 2022 GMC Terrain yet, the pre-updated 2021 model-year crossover is priced from $26,195 including destination.

The CVT doesn’t really matter. The Outlander is a better overall package. Better interior, better infotainment, better warranty (5/60 bumper to bumper, 10/100 power train). GM desperately needs to revamp the Equinox and Terrain to bring it up to par with Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Mitsu, Honda, Mazda, etc. The interior quality in particular needs serious attention.
