2022 Chevy Camaro To Lose 1LE Track Pack On LT Models

The 2022 Chevy Camaro will discontinue the 1LE Track Performance Package for the LT models when it goes into production this summer, GM Authority has learned.

Introduced for the 2016 model year, the 1LE Track Pack was developed with one purpose: to give Chevy‘s sixth-generation muscle car more capability at the track by including the following features and equipment.

Mechanical:

  • Extra capacity track-cooling package with external engine oil, rear differential and transmission oil coolers
  • Brembo 4-piston front brake calipers
  • Mechanical Limited-slip differential with 3.27 ratio
  • Camaro SS fuel system for higher-load cornering capability
  • FE3 suspension components (from the “regular” Camaro SS), including dampers, rear cradle mounts, ball-jointed rear toe links and stabilizer bars
  • Dual-mode exhaust system
  • Auxiliary engine coolant (only on 3.6L LGX V6 engine)

Exterior:

  • Black front splitter
  • Unique high flow upper and lower grille with satin black accents
  • Satin Black hood wrap
  • Satin Black front splitter
  • Unique Satin Black rear spoiler
  • Goodyear Eagle F1 245/40R20 front tires and 275/35R20 rear summer-only run-flat tires
  • Black lightweight 20-inch forged aluminum wheels measuring 20″ x 8.5″ front and 20″ x 9.5″ rear
  • RS badging
  • RS lighting

Interior:

  • Sueded flat-bottom steering wheel
  • Sueded short-throw shifter
  • Available Recaro seats
  • Available PDR video/data recording system

The LT 1LE Track Performance package was originally introduced for the 2017 Camaro in conjunction with the 3.6L V6 LGX engine. The package was expanded to the turbocharged 2.0L I-4 LTG engine for the 2019 Camaro, creating the first-ever Camaro Turbo 1LE. No matter the engine, the LT 1LE Track Pack required the six-speed manual transmission. For the 2021 Camaro, the package was available on 1LT, 2LT, 3LT trims, and only on the Coupe (not on the Convertible).

Despite the deletion of the Camaro 1LE Track Pack for the LT models, the Camaro still offers 1LE packages for the Camaro SS (as the SS 1LE Track Performance Package) and for the ZL1 (as the  ZL1 1LE Extreme Track Performance Package). Both of those packages, however, feature different content and equipment compared to the LT 1LE Track Performance Package.

The 2022 Chevy Camaro will also see several minor changes, including the deletion of at least two existing colors, the introduction of two new exterior hues, and a few other minor changes.

  1. I am a diehard Chevy fan and it is painful to see Ford and Chrysler coming out with new models having much greater horsepower. They are not only more powerful but handle just as good as the Camaro 1LE. Coming out with new colors and minor detail changes are nice but doesn’t keep up with competition. Camaro sales are lagging because the customers who buy these cars want the performance that Ford and Dodge have. I have a Corvette which is doing great in keeping up with competition but can’t say same about Camaro.

    1. There is no mustang or challenger that handles as well as the Camaro, especially in 1LE guise. Don’t kid yourself.

      Power? Sure. Because the ford and dodge are oversight and need it.

      2. This generation Camaro is a failure. Mustang went global sport while Challenger stayed retro yet Camaro tries to straddle the space in between.
        The next Camaro must stop being a Boomer wet dream and go EV. If not, GM needs to look at old marques like GTO or even Trans Am as a name plate and sell as both ice and EV. (There is no sin in mining GM for name plates attractive to Boomers but new to Millennials.)
        I suggest a luxury platform mate EV based on Avista be sold over at Buick as GNX with the goal of starting a sub brand aimed at new brands like Lucid. It’s my understanding that SAIC has already converted the car to EV for the MG line which should not pose a real problem provided sheet metal gets manipulated.

People that want muscle cars….want muscle cars. Muscle cars have a little rumble. Cadillac can make an EV sports car that nobody asked for and that normal people can’t afford. Camaro should die before it becomes an EV.

    3. handling department is one thing Camaro’s reign supreme at. Mustang, Challenger and Charger dont come close to the handling that Camaro’s have. Not even close.

        1. Actually, if you’ve ever been in a real race car, the Camaro has all the same “faults”. Higher hood, windows so small you can’t get a large drink in the car, blind quarters, super firm suspension… and if you’re used to it, it is such a great ride. We have been racing a 2019 Camaro V6 1LE for two years and the V8s can’t run and hide. Every race day, without fail, we always have 4-5 people that come over and ask “what do you have in this thing?” I simply point to my awesome son. :-). Then they talk to him and don’t believe it when he says it’s a V6. And that sound…

    1. Yes, exactly this. Also, when even car people don’t know you make it, why bother? GM is the master of perfecting a product, not advertising it, and keeping the price high until the end of the run when they finally kill it because “nobody would buy it”. They treat performance cars like a refrigerator and assume if they make it people will magically show up and buy it. I see more Dodge commercials in a week than I have seen Camaro commercials in my entire life.

    3. Read an earlier comment. See you at Sebring. We run a V6 Camaro 1LE and it has no issues keeping up with the V8s lap after lap. It took one guy in a Mustang GT 350 7 laps just to get by my son. Then he was up his tailpipes for the rest of the run. I would agree that the 2.0T is the wrong engine, but the V6 is in a class by itself.

  6. I’m not a GM fan anymore, but I do realize the Camaro is one of GM’s legendary cars. In my opinion, they should replace the 2.0 and 3.6 with the 2.7, bring the 5.3 in the mix to compete with the R/T Challenger, keep the LT1 to compete against the Scat Pack Challenger, update the LT4 to the same output as the CT4-V Blackwing for the regular ZL1 and give the ZL1 1LE the LT5 and call it the Z28 instead.

    1. Chevy pulled the main engineer from the camaro. So while I agree about the upgrades, I don’t think Chevy is gonna do anything major. The camaro program is probably gonna become some type of hybrid or full EV. I have read that the main racing series in Australia will be using the camaro body until 2025 or 2026. So Chevy might keep it around a few yrs longer than expected

    2. I lost all faith in this company which for the past 40 years has been my favorite. Then Barra came along and eliminated every vehicle that interested me with even the Camaro and Malibu dying off. I’ll bet that GM whoops gm will do the usual thing and de-content the Camaro, take away engine choices, special editions and exterior color choices before it is gone.

Only good vehicles from GM I’ve actually had interest in is the C8, Camaro, Silverado, Tahoe/Suburban, Hummer EV, Cadillac Blackwing models alongside a few of their upcoming EVs, and that’s about it. Otherwise, GM is really boring. I really want to see them compete with Ford and the Chrysler brands. That doesn’t seem to be happening… For the moment.

  7. Is the 2022 at least going to get the updated version of magnetic ride control? I would hope so. Would be a shame to be built in the same factory as the CT4 and CT5 and not get it.

  8. GM should go back to what they did best. Share as many parts as possible between models and make them cheap. Aren’t there 4 different versions of brakes between all the trims now? Drop the V6, add the 2.7 or the 5.3 for economy performance. Reduce the number of colors and cut useless decal package special editions down to zero. Sell them with steel wheels as an option. Anything to beat Dodge on the price point. Really the best thing that could be done is to take the CT5 with a 5.3 and TR6060 and slap a Nova badge on it for $25-30k out the door and print money.
