1949 Chevy 3100 Five Window Pickup Is An Auction Bargain

Without a doubt, restomods are one of the hottest commodities in the collector car world right now. Taking old cars and making them into more comfortable, more drivable vehicles has become all the rage. However, for purists, a good old-fashioned affordable hot rod is tough to beat. That is the appeal of our feature truck, a 1949 Chevy 3100 Five Window pickup.

This Chevy 3100 started with the original steel body. New rear fenders had to be fitted, but the rest was in reasonably solid shape. The paint is an artificial patina finish with a flat clear coat. Reclaimed barn wood lines the bed, with new polished stainless steel strips filling the gaps. A single-piece windshield has been fitted, along with new door latches, tail lights, and 17-inch American Racing wheels shod in deep Firestone rubber. The suspension has been lowered with a Heidts-style Mustang II independent front suspension with power steering and QA1 shocks in the rear. Stopping power comes courtesy of CPP power front disc brakes.

Under the hood of the Chevy 3100 is a new 350 cube Small Block V8, stuffed with a Comp Cams performance camshaft and flat top pistons, and topped by late model Vortec heads, an Edelbrock intake, and Edelbrock carb. A modern aluminum radiator and electric fan keep everything cool. The beefy Small Block is backed by a new 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission. The A new master cylinder has also been fitted. Fewer than 2,000 miles have been covered since completion of the build.

Inside the Chevy 3100 is a bench seat freshly covered in a light gray Herringbone cloth. New light gray carpet covers the floor. The matte black dash houses new Dolphin analog gauges. A leather-wrapped billet steering wheel is mounted atop a tilt steering column. The headliner and door panels have also been treated to new skins.

This slick Chevy 3100 sold for a bargain $28,050 including buyer’s premium at the Mecum Auctions Houston event this week.
