GMC Hummer EV Inspires New John Geiger Sneaker: Video

General Motors has teamed up with sneaker designer John Geiger to produce a new shoe that pulls inspiration from the GMC Hummer EV pickup.

The GMC Hummer EV sneaker is a variation of Geiger’s existing ‘002’ shoe model and features an all-over print inspired by the surface of the moon. Geiger got the idea to make the sneaker look like the moon after he fired up the GMC Hummer EV and noticed the background detailing on the welcome screen for the infotainment display featured a lunar theme. The kicks also come with a box that carries the same moon-inspired design as the shoe.

“When I first sat in the truck and we started it, the lunar landscape start-up animation gave me the idea for doing something related to the moon,” Geiger said. “It is revolutionary for our brand, to work with GMC and the Hummer EV, and I couldn’t think of a better collaboration.”

The John Geiger collaboration is one of several fashion-themed marketing ventures GM has planned for the Hummer EV. The automaker is also plotting GMC brand collaborations with jeweler Greg Yuna and designer Don C, which are expected to launch in the next few months. GMC hired LeBron James to promote the launch of the battery-electric truck, as well, with the basketball star already appearing in various marketing materials for the Hummer EV.

The GMC Hummer EV 002 shoe retails for $320 USD. The shoe is currently sold out on John Geiger’s website, however, and it’s not clear when or if the model will be restocked.

As for the GMC Hummer EV itself, it will enter production at GM’s Factory Zero plant in Michigan later this year. The First Edition trim level will be the first of the Hummer EV variants to arrive, followed by the tri-motor EV3X in Fall 2022.
