GM Design Team Releases Interesting New Chevy Silverado Sketch

The GM Design team has published a new Chevy Silverado sketch that may provide an indication as to the styling direction the automaker will take with the upcoming mid-cycle refresh for the full-size pickup.
This design sketch looks very similar to the current Chevy Silverado Trail Boss thanks to its contrasting black grille and red-painted tow hooks. The grille design is different than that of the current Chevy Silverado Trail Boss, however, with a thick bar positioned in the upper section of the grille. This thick grille bar also carries Chevy’s iconic Bowtie emblem, moving it up from the center position where it’s located on the current model.
The headlights and daytime running lights on this model are also quite a bit different. The slanted three-segment LED headlights have a meaner and more aggressive look to them and are joined by triangular-shaped LED light signatures underneath. A third set of daytime running lights/fog lamps sit on either side of the red tow hooks, expanding on the truck’s go-anywhere appearance.
The design is more familiar as our eyes move down the side of the vehicle, although the truck in this sketch has a never-before-seen wheel design shod in knobby off-road tires and gloss black mirrors and exterior trim.
As we reported previously, the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado will introduce revised exterior styling and a new cabin layout with a larger infotainment screen and additional soft-touch materials. The 2022 Silverado will also offer Super Cruise, GM’s semi-autonomous driving assistant, which will likely arrive as an available option on the High Country trim level only. Customers can also expect a revised rear suspension setup and the deletion of the base-level 4.3L V6 LV3 engine.
We’ll have all the details on the mid-cycle refresh for the Chevy Silverado once they become available. For now, we encourage readers to let us know what they think of this preliminary design sketch in the comments below.

Very nice!
Very Impressive. More futuristic looking than any truck on the road today
I’ll stick with my 2019 Silverado LTZ Texas Edition! I loved the 2019 Silverado I first saw at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show! This rendering definitely doesn’t impress me one bit, sorry!
GM needs a way to differentiate Silverado from Sierra other than “Sloan’s Ladder”- outdated marketing for a nation without, with a few exceptions, middle “premium brands,” unlike Europe and Asia. In fact I’m convinced GMC as Forman’s truck actually hurts GM when Ram and Ford uses one truck with more trims to cover all buyers.
Styling, not features must define these trucks with each offering premium features much in the mode of Ram. Chevrolet/GMC & Buick/Cadillac should compete like Hyundai Kia going forewars.
That looks Bad A**
Looks good. But it reminds me of the new Blazer front end. And what’s up with the bunker styling cab?? Please GM get away from this styling. Also needs power up grades for your 5.3 and 6.2.
It’s enough design distinction to make Silverado unique from GMC and is in line with the youthful Chevrolet global design language which is important because GM using styling more than content to distinguish between brands.
Nice aggressive styling that should help Bowtie compete with Ram for #2
Nice. People will want to move out of the way when they see that coming.
For some reason, this reminds me of the original Avalanche
Looks burly! Hope it comes with a S/C 5.3 and an exhaust note to match!!
It’s the new 2023 Colorado.🤞
😮 Yes PLEASE!!! 🤞🤞🤞
WOW!
That’s a damn good looking truck !!!
I know the spy pictures tell a different story but in the rendering I’d say the upper lights are DRLs while the lower triangular shaped light would be where the actual low beam and high beam are similar to Blazer and Trailblazer
Sketch rendering is cool but it doesn’t match the actual camo refresh pics
I agree. This looks more like the initial design concept for the 2019 MY. If you remember the GM Defense 2500 Silverado HD concept, it had a similar bulky grille to this design.
Once you tone down the concept look of it, it matches perfectly.
99% sure this is the basis of the 2022 Silverado or Zr2.
Suck the protrusion on the front bumper in and slope the hood more for better visibility and you’ve got a winner. Might actually trade in my 18 for one.
How about a regular cab,6 1/2′ bed? If they can be built for the middle east how about the USA?
A regular cab long bed in the LT version, not an ugly work truck!
Nice design!!!! I’m disappointed to hear that GM will delete the base 4.3V6!!!! It’s a great powerful engine that I would like to see go back into Colorado/Canyon. Speaking of Colorado/Canyon when will they be redesigned? I love the currents trucks but it’s time to redesign to pass the competition.
Wow, that’s beautiful! Too bad this will never see production. GM would never be this aggressive. They’re more of a follower than a leader, lately.
BREAD and BUTTER, along with the Arlington, Texas SUV plant, this is the Bread, Butter, and Bacon, of GM, well we can throw the Corvette in there too. But this is what makes the cash register ring!!
This is the problem with GM, the concept sketches look way better and with better angles and proportions then the actual products. I think the ceos look at it and say “this is too futuristic looking” then the Ford Raptor comes out and sells like toiletpaper during a pandemic.
Love it but like Paul mentioned this image isn’t reality. GM has some great designers but the bean counters always kill the party. GM needs to give their designers a bigger budget and more control over final production models. The classic bowtie front end looks so much better than Chevrolet spelled out, hopefully the production model retains the classic bowtie.
Aggressive , masculine and beautiful at the same time. Would sell like hog dogs at the fair.
Maybe this will be an EV version in the future since that seems to be the focus and direction of GM.
General Motors plans to completely phase out vehicles using internal combustion engines by 2035, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra announced Thursday. The automaker will go completely carbon neutral at all facilities worldwide by 2035.
Barra has frequently touted GM’s plan for “an all-electric future,” recently increasing to 30 the number of pure battery-electric vehicles it will launch by the middle of this decade, but this marks the first time the largest Detroit automaker has set a hard target for completely phasing out gas and diesel engines for all light-duty vehicles, including pickups and SUVs.
GM already showed most of their EV pickup. It looks nothing like that. Carscoops has a good rendering based on what we have seen.
an ev future was never in doubt how fast and to what extent goes by how the political winds blow.
Game Over
Doing away with that angled front quarter panel that came down almost to a “sharp point” is a good move. I’m still not sure about longevity of the new motors that can run on as little as 1 cylinder.
Instead of 4 cyls. of the troublesome lifters there are probably 8 cyls. w/ the the same lifters. shut that crap off after the powertrain warranty ends and you have to pull the heads to fix the problem. a catch can and regular oil changes recommended
They should just do away with the headlights altogether, as right now, they can’t get any worse!
I agree .I don’t like penlight sized headlights!!!
Look I’ve been a Chevy fan all my life. The new look of these trucks may appeal to some but, its starting to look more like a spaceship than a truck. In my opinion change your look make the public go woah, beef up the whole truck itself. Do a solid front axle again bring back a square body design with a new age twist give your customers a throwback feel with power to wow them. This new look that Chevrolet has decided to go with is nice but it’s starting to look more like a Ford for lights mixed with a Honda Ridgeline rooftop and the. New lights don’t seem like they will be dependable. Your Classic model Silverado trucks still turn heads. I say bring the old school back and make it better. Toughen up your rockers cab corners wheel wells cross members in the bed and your body so rust doesn’t eat it away so fast. Provide a bit taller beefier stance. I think you will hit a good chunk of those people who again, are looking for a truck that can handle anything on and off road. A Truck that can handle the extreme elements and keep on coming at you with no signs of stopping. You bring back a classic look with the power and strength that will put you back in the seat, with those things you’ll have people buy. Like a rock, Strong, Reliable, Affordable. Chevrolet.
They want trucks that turn to dust. Then they sell more trucks
If that rendering comes close I would say it is a winner. Keep the 6 banger for the people that want it,to me turbo means trouble.
