Just days before the world debut of the all-new 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV and the refreshed 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV on February 14th, General Motors revealed its plans to introduce Chevy’s electric vehicles in South America. At that time, the announcement covered the general region with an emphasis on the Brazilian market, but the automaker has just confirmed the new Bolt models specifically for Colombia.
The upcoming arrival of the Chevrolet Bolt EUV and updated Bolt EV in the Colombian market was confirmed by Raúl Mier, Commercial Director of GM Colombia, during a recent interview with a local media. The company’s senior executive reported that GM plans to soon present Chevrolet’s zero-emission vehicles in the South American country, which he said is the region’s most advanced electrified vehicle market.
“Colombia has an important level of visibility for the corporation, since it’s the most developed market in Latin America for hybrid and electric vehicles,” said Mier to the Colombian newspaper El Espectador. “Our next announcement will be electric, because we have seen that the transition from combustion vehicles to zero emissions has to occur in an accelerated manner. We will introduce an electric vehicle in the country,” he added.
Although GM Colombia’s commercial director did not make specific reference to the models, it can be assumed that he is referring to the new 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV and Bolt EV that the company previously announced for South America. These vehicles are fundamental for GM’s electrification efforts in the southern region of the Americas in the short term, as part of its bold global triple-zero strategy referring to zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion.
As such, the new Chevrolet Bolt EUV and Bolt EV will be the first fully electric vehicles that the Bow Tie brand officially market in Colombia, after a failed attempt with the original Chevy Bolt EV, whose last introduction was scheduled for early 2020. This time around, Chevrolet will be able to offer a more comprehensive lineup with both body styles and the improved electric range that debuted with the 2020 model year.
The all-new 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV and the refreshed 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV will go on sale during the second half of this year in the United States and Canada, which will be the two main markets for the new Bolt lineup. Although there is still no official information in this regard, it is expected that the models will debut in Brazil before the end of 2021, with an arrival in Colombia and other countries in the region during the next year.
