First GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 Sells For $2.5M At Barrett-Jackson Auction

The first production example of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 was sold at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale this weekend, raising an incredible $2.5 million for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

The winning bidder of the auction won the rights to the first 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 once production of the battery-electric pickup truck begins later this year. The Hummer EV will be built at GM’s Factory Zero plant in Metro Detroit, which is currently undergoing a major renovation to the tune of $2.2 billion that will transform the 40-year old plant into a modern-day EV production facility.

All proceeds from the sale will go toward the Tunnel to Towers Foundation – a non-profit that builds mortgage-free and fully accessible smart homes for injured veterans, Gold Star families and the families of first responders killed in the line of duty. The charity was started by Frank Siller, who currently serves as its chairman and CEO, to honor the memory of 9/11 first responder Stephen Siller.

“One-hundred percent of the hammer price from this auction will resonate across America,” said Siller. “This donation from the Hummer EV Edition 1 will help build homes for our catastrophically-injured veterans to give them their independence and a better quality of life.”

“We are thrilled with the auction results and what the proceeds will mean for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation,” added GMC brand boss Duncan Aldred. “We also recognize the support of Barrett-Jackson for this special occasion, which made it a 100 percent charitable endeavor.”

Order books for the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 opened up immediately following the vehicle’s debut earlier this year, with the limited-production model selling out shortly after. The Hummer EV Edition 1 comes with a 1,000 horsepower tri-motor powertrain, as well an Extreme Off-Road Package with 18-inch wheels and 35-inch tires, Adaptive Air Suspension, GMC MultiPro tailgate, 800-volt DC fast charging and the latest version of GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system.

All GMC Hummer EV trucks will tap GM’s BT1 dedicated electric vehicle platform, as well, and will use an Ultium lithium-ion battery pack and Ultium Drive electric motors. While the Hummer EV Edition 1 is sold out, the automaker is still accepting reservations for the rest of the available models via its website.

  1. Racist Mary Barra tries to cover up recent accusations with “donations.” All Mary cares about is maintaining the status quo for the upper class and board members. She’s abandoned well built vehicles in the heartland of our great country for cheap to manufacturer, disposable BEVs and chintzy Chinese imports.

    1. Not sure why all the thumbs down, she is an accused racist after all. Read the news. She only cares about SAYING the right thing, but her ACTIONS clearly show she’s rotten with hipocrisy. Watch gm stock fall the next 2-3 years, cause that’s what’s gonna happen while she leads lowercase gm in rudderless circles, soon to be wedged in the canal. She won’t be happy until she’s pocketed all profits and received government bailout money from my pocket.

      1. The “racism” she was accused of is absurd. Billionaire Byron Allen demands GM advertise on African-American owned media? That is called extortion. Ridiculous that a business mogul would even think about operating like that – how about increase viewership so that your networks become a desirable advertising destination? Although regarding your original post I do agree somewhat with you last sentence, we all know BEVs have a shorter lifespan and less components, yet I guarantee prices will not drop, even after costly R&D is finally recouped. I don’t believe that stock prices will drop anytime soon though, and with the debut of the Ultium-based lineup we might even see continued record highs…

        1. The only reason stock would stay high is because of the no bid contracts that I’m sure Biden is dying to give Mary. Borderline insider trading and super corrupt but that’s how the Democrats like it. Maintain status quo and get richer separate the top 10% further and further from the middle class. The bourgeoisie love Mary and Biden, that’s a fact. Personally I’m not going to give one cent to anything Mary does… If Tesla stock over the past month is any indication of which direction battery tech is headed I wouldn’t be dumping a whole lot of money into gm. I truly expect Tesla to come way back down to earth… It certainly isn’t going to stay above 400-500 through the summer, you can quote me on that.

    2. It was a Woman who’s name has not been stated publicly. You can see her win the Hummer in the Auction Video.

    3. Rick Hendrick usually gets his paws into these things but alas GMA didn’t say who it was.

  3. How cool, sometimes gm gets it correct. Gm didn’t even advertise that they were doing this auction on the TV media. Face it, there are major companies that spend a ton of media advertising money to let the world know that they donated money to some cause.

    1. I received an Email from GM about this auction because I was following Hummer update list.

They also had details about this event on their social media sites.

It was also all over the History channel commercials about the auction. GM had lots of EV commercials during the event.

  4. Hi Nebula, gm advertised the auction on TV? I apologize then and stand corrected. I guess gm didn’t just give the Hummer away without wanting the world to know about it. I’m getting naive in my old age thinking that a conglomerate would do good just because they were socially responsible.
