Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Buick Encore GX sales performance during the fourth quarter of 2020 puts the crossover in seventh place in its segment in terms of cumulative sales volume. In other words, the new nameplate was only outsold by six rivals while outselling 13 other rivals.
The Encore GX was beat by the Jeep Compass in first place, GM’s own Chevrolet Trax (see running Chevrolet Trax sales) in second, Hyundai Kona in third, the Honda HR-V in fourth, followed by the Encore GX’s corporate cousin and platform mate – the Chevrolet Trailblazer (see running Chevy Trailblazer sales) – in fifth, and the Jeep Renegade in sixth. The Encore GX followed in seventh.
As such, the Encore GX outsold the all-new Kia Seltos in eighth, Kia Soul in ninth, Nissan Kicks in tenth, the Ford EcoSport (see running Ford EcoSport sales) in eleventh, Mazda CX-30 in twelfth, the Toyota CH-R in thirteenth, and all-new Hyundai Venue in fourteenth. Bringing up the bottom end of the pack is the GX’s older corporate sibling – the “regular” Buick Encore, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Kia Niro, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, Mazda CX-3 (which has been replaced by the CX-30; see Mazda CX-3 sales), and the Fiat 500X.

That said, the Kia Soul could be considered part of the smaller A-segment. Removing the Soul from the Hyundai and Kia sales totals leaves the Korean duo with 51,574 units, or about 15k units less than GM.
The mainstream subcompact crossover segment expanded nearly 8 percent to 260,875 units during Q4 2020.
The GM Authority Take
Encore GX sales continued to grow during the fourth quarter. The 16,969 U.S. sales during Q4 represent the best quarter yet for the all-new subcompact crossover, following 2,601 deliveries in Q1 2020, 9,256 deliveries in Q2 2020, and 16,019 in Q3 2020.
We expect Buick Encore GX sales to continue growing in the near- and medium-term future as supply and awareness the model reach more favorable levels. In particular, supply of the Encore GX should continue to improve as GM allocates more room at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea to produce the Encore GX at the expense of the “regular” Encore, which is also produced at the facility. In fact, the effects of this strategy can already be seen during Q4 2020, with Encore sales declining substantially as a result of decreased production.

2025 Buick Encore GX: Here’s What Changed Compared To 2024
Comments
I’m curious if Buick is hitting the sales goal with this car. Does anyone know how the GX model is doing in terms of GM’s expectations?
I don’t want to beat a dead horse, but lowercase gm isn’t even trying in the b/c segment. It seems like if you don’t want to buy a truck, large suv, or overpriced BEV they don’t want your business.
Yesterday I went kicking tires on a few cars. First I went to the Kia dealership, to finally test drive the top trim Seltos with the 1.6t and DCT. Right from the start the experience at the Kia dealership was better, they seemed to want to earn my business. My first impession of the 1.6t Seltos is that it is an AMAZING vehicle, easily better than the trailblazer in just about everyway. The sales and finance staff were courteous and professional resulting in a great consumer experience.
Next stop the Chevy dealer. First car on the floor is the Bolt, ok lets look at sticker…. MSRP $40k yikes. Can we stop pretending like this car is worth $40k and just call the MSRP $30k. So I ask them about financing, over 3% because they give you such good rebates on the Bolt. I almost laughed in their face. Then I proceeded to ask about the reduction of range in cold weather during the winter… they told me to look at forums on the internet. lowercase gm and perhaps even the EPA should require range capacities both during moderate weather and near freezing temps, like its not a ridiculous question to basically get scoffed at for asking.
Anyways, I’ll never go back to that gm dealership, and I’m really quite disappointed with lowercase gm as a whole. Obviously gm doesn’t care and it showed throughout my whole experience.
Is there something wrong with you?
@eyexist: Who?
lowercase h4cksaw
h4cksaw: I do agree with you on many of your points and I do feel the Kia’s are quite nice any more. Not sure I feel they are better than the GM’s, but opinion is what makes our world go around. As for your experience at dealerships? Yes, that is a real issue. Funny thing is that you could go back into that same Kia store next month and have a totally different (bad) experience. This is a tough business and I know having been in nearly every department of a dealership for 19 years now. But you do have good points.
Always level headed Dan, appreciate you homie. My rant can pretty much be summed up that lowercase gm doesn’t care about b/c segment sales, and it’s painfully obvious. I think gas prices are going to continue to rise and I wouldn’t be surprised to see larger vehicle sales decline. Personally, I think it would be wise to carry a few b/c ICE vehicles on the lots that are actually competitive. The 2.0t Malibu cost more than a Cadillac and the 2.0t Equinox is gone… We all know how I feel about the Trailblazer and GX, an opinion that is echoed by a lot of people in the industry.
The Bolt is a great vehicle, but is essentially a Sonic, the drive does lack refinement, and that $40k msrp is just too much. The Bolt EUV wont be on lots around me for at least a year… And the dealers need to have better answers on the Bolt then just “check online forums” its been in production for at least 4-5 years now, time to give the consumer straight answers.
h4cksaw: I do often spar with others on here, but I actually enjoy the back and forth as long as it stays more civil. I’m sure I’ve said a few things that weren’t too civil, but I try hard to find the good points in anyone’s comments as well as call out the parts that I feel are inaccurate or just anti-GM opinions. But the fun thing is that this is a free country where we can go on forums like this and say what we want within reason.
I also try to read all the comments on articles that interest me to get good feedback or maybe even learn something. As I said above, I actually like the Kia line and yet don’t feel they are better than GM offerings. In the past (2005 and again in 2016) I actually purchased Kia’s. The 2005 was the funky (but I liked it) Kia Amanti. The 2016 was an Optima Hybrid. The Amanti drove very well and had fantastic materials inside. However, I immediately started having issues (irritations more than anything) that the dealer would duplicate but never fix. The offer was to replace the parts, but I’d have to pay for them even though the car was brand new with full warranty. The Optima was purchased to replace my 2014 Chevy Cruze Diesel which was a fantastic car and I used it for driving Uber. The logic was that a hybrid gets better MPG’s in city type driving and thus I got it for the extra room and to increase my MPG’s. However, that car would NOT get over 28 MPG combined no matter how easy I drove it. To top it off, it wasn’t till after I had the car for a few thousand miles that an issue with drivers seat comfort became a problem. It was so bad that I literally started having serious back issues if I was in the car for more than 45 minutes without getting out and walking around. Between those two things, I ended up dumping the car at CarMax and luckily got my money back. My next (replacement) vehicle was a 2016 Jeep Patriot 75th Ann. edition. That was a fantastic car for the next two years until I got the 2018 Buick Encore.
My point in all this is that although Kia makes nice cars, my trust level in them isn’t great enough to get another one yet. My vast experience with GM products is and has always been outstanding. My Lincoln/Ford experience is mixed at best and experience with Chrysler/Jeep products has been near perfect too. So I’m not just a GM fan and fall back on my personal ownership experience as well as the vast (19 years total now) experience I have in the car industry. Yes, I may agree with you on one post and disagree with you on another and I try hard not to carry anything over from one to the next.
Now do us all a favor and never return to this site. It’s obvious you have no interest so why waste GM fans time.
Thanks for your recommendation, but I’ll probably just continue to voice my opinion… And the real problem is that I do have interest in a gm product for my next vehicle, they just don’t seem to offer anything competitive in the b/c segment. Just telling someone to go away doesn’t fix the problem. I am actually a gm fan, but I can’t just blindly like a product if it actually isn’t that great.
No you’re not, as said with other folks don’t buy one if you don’t like. I even have a Ford because GM didn’t have what I wanted at the time but that don’t mean I won’t buy GM again. Don’t tell us snake oil Kia stories if you don’t or didn’t buy one.
lol, but its ok for gm enthusiast writers to tell “snake oil stories” of Bolts, Trailblazers, and GXs even though they don’t actually buy them… Also I’ve driven the Bolt, Trailblazer, and Seltos, so my opinion isn’t entirely “snake oil”
It’s not like I haven’t done my research. My opinion is backed up by firsthand impressions of these vehicles and probably 100’s of hours of research, but yeah, guess I’m a snake oil salemen… lowercase gm is just in the bottom percentile, in terms of value, in the b/c segment right now.
Don’t care about your research, did you put your money down?. Talk the talk but I see no walking…
Doesn’t seem like a lot of people are willing to put money down on lowercase gm b/c segment offerings anymore.
Uh-oh, “De Kia is better “…..
Yes, the Kia Seltos is literally better. Better vehicle. Better quality. Better reviews. Better deal. Better financing. Better warranty. Better by any metric… Tough pill to swallow, but it’s undeniable.
The pcs of junk is fully Built and made in China.
Same with KIA.
Wake up people.
The Seltos in made almost entirely in South Korea, including the engine and transmission. South Koreans have been building b/c segments vehicles for generations now. The Trailblazer and GX are also made in South Korea, but the underpowered engine and transmissions are henco en Mexico, iirc. Nothing against manufacturing in Mexico, but the South Koreans appear to have designed and manufactured a vastly superior drivetrain.
Skilled labor is expensive and the South Koreans seem willing to pay for it, the median monthly income for a South Korean is around 3,500 usd. The country of Mexico appears to underpay their workers with median monthly compensation of 1,500 usd. But take this data with a grain of salt because I’m a “snake oil salesmen”
To clarify, I’m implying that lowercase gm is exploiting cheap labor to reduce production cost and increase profits.
