The Oldsmobile brand was discontinued back in the early 2000s, but in spite of not producing a single vehicle for more than 15 years, the brand still enjoys a good amount of name recognition today thanks to iconic models like the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and 442.

If the Oldsmobile brand were around today, it seems inevitable that it would try to cash in on the Cutlass’ strong brand recognition with a sporty new rear-wheel-drive model by the same name. An Insta rendering artist on Instagram by the name of Abimilec Arellano recently tried to envision what such a model might look like, using software to create a fictional modern Oldsmobile Cutlass based on a sixth-generation Chevy Camaro platform.
The end result is essentially a sixth-generation Chevy Camaro with a front fascia inspired by an Oldsmobile 442, redesigned taillights and Oldsmobile badging. The creator says the main difference between this vehicle and a Camaro, and the reason why most people would get this instead of the Chevy on which it’s based is the lack of a b-pillar. This gives the vehicle a more open feeling from the interior and also gives a more sleek and stylish shape from the exterior – especially with the windows rolled down.
As the artist points out, Oldsmobile had its own DOHC V8 engines, so this engine line could have theoretically stayed in production in Olds were never discontinued. This would allow a modern-day Oldsmobile Cutlass to feature a DOHC V8 that could compete with the 5.0L V8 in the Ford Mustang GT. The 442, meanwhile, could get a bigger displacement DOHC V8 and similar suspension and aerodynamic enhancements as the Chevy Camaro ZL1.
General Motors has no plans to bring the Oldsmobile brand back from the dead, but this rendering serves as a great example of the kinds of products it could produce if it ever did. Think the design in this rendering would do it for diehard Olds fans? Let us know by voting in the poll below or sounding off in the comments.

Dumb!
Really stupid… either build a real Cutlass Supreme or don’t… please do.
Nice thought but when it comes down to it I still see Camaro build something different on that size
Absolutely!
That looks awful…
“Artist Imagines Chevy Camaro-Based, Modern-Day Oldsmobile Cutlass”. All I can say is “why”?
Exactly what I was thinking! No one can have any original ideas anymore. It is a Camaro with an Olds pointed front end. Dumb idea for sure!
Only thing I like is the light blue color. Keep the rest.
NOPE, That look like a Jacked up GTO simply awful
90s looking in the 20s. surprising the did not put on that plastic cladding half way up the door.
I thought we were done with just changing the front grille and sticking on a different nameplate to make a ‘new’ car. Sharp looking but looks way too much like the Camaro. The entire rear 1/3 of the car should remain Camaro only. However, I do like the absence of the B-pillar.
The problem is, the Cutlass was never a pony car. Now Olds was considered for its own version of the Camaro/Firebird long ago, more luxury than sporty, but it was canceled. If this were built, it could use a name like Starfire or Firenza, but yes: it looks too much like a Camaro, as was true with Trans Am and GTO artist renderings on this page.
No thanks. Front end looks more like a Pontiac Firebird to me. Why would you want to build something that looks part Camaro, part Firebird?
I will never understand why GM discontinued Pontiac, which was a brand with real growth potential and kept Buick.
Because the annointed one and savior Barry Soetoro declared Pontiac, Saturn and Hummer would go if GM were to get the bailout. He also wanted Buick and GMC to hit the streets. GM had to plead with him of GMC’s growth and the importance of Buick in China. In essence, the Chinese market saved Buick. So you can thank him.
Ulltimately GM met their own fate when they couldn’t figure out the identity of the brands (still can’t) and stop badge engineering their cars. Buh-bye Pontiac. We didn’t need a minivan from 5 divisions.
Well Pontiac is still kinda alive as a Cadillac. I feel like Cadillac is more of what a Pontiac should be now as opposed to Cadillac being Cadillac minus escalade
i thought there was a company that already does this like the pontiac trans am based camaro but there olds 442 looks alot better ! specially the rear !
Would have been a bit more believable had they done this to a Chevy SS/Holden Commodore
First of all this looks a Pontiac Firebird not an oldsmobile from any generation, second body cladding is still around look at jeeps and other suvs almost the whole bottom half the vehicle is plastic it’s painted so you can’t tell but I would hate to damage it and it looks nasty, third the current camaro is stale it has looked almost the same for 10 years…that goes for the mustang and challenger to. It seems like all original thinking is gone at least take Malibu turbo charge it and call it an Oldsmobile that would look much better with different body work and if dodge can turn the charger into a four why couldn’t olds?
Scattered design. No flow or ‘Olds” theme in the rendering. Hate to say it but the front end is about as appealing as a pickup truck mounted snowblade.
I think it’s Bad ass, love the blue one
Wrong answer!
Forget the Cutlass. I would like to see an updated version of the Oldsmobile Alero 2-door coupe from the early 2000’s.
me too that car was the total package sporty styling and luxury all in one and that rip snorting performance ohhhh
Are you kidding me? This makes 100- times less sense than the Camaro-based Trans Am rip offs. No Pontiac, no Firebird/Trans Am. No Oldsmobile, no Cutlass/ 442. Maybe this is why the Camaro doesn’t sell as well as the Mustang/Challenger. Stop trying to make it into something it isn’t. Without the actual motor division, it ain’t gonna happen. Go get a real one at auction.
The appearance still speaks Camaro, good effort, but it’s best to leave it as a Rendering.
I say do an 80’a retro wedge looking Camaro come something different and get ride of that Toyota Big Bass Wide Mouth.
Gm should have kept Oldsmobile, models attracted younger ages than Buick
Your right TomG…in fact the I learned to drive with was 1990’s 88 I forget what year exactly but that car was awesome it rode like a cloud, had decent power, a huge trunk, decent interior….I wish Oldsmobile was still around. After that my car my uncle got an oldsmobile alero that car was ahead of it’s time, it’s a shame if Olds was still around who knows we might a new 442, that could take that Cadillac CT6 and make an 88 or 98 out of it for cheaper!
Olds Cutlass is gone forever. The Camaro is a dead car walking. Why this article?
Hey it is still a couple of weeks until April 1st!
SORRY oldsmobile not even 1%, but this is a CAMARO WITH THE FRONT OF A POOR LOOKING TRANS-AM……
NOT ready to buy this !!!! I’d rather buy a real trans-am like Burt Renolds had !
TRY AGAIN ……
Looks too much like badge engineering and visually too similar to the Camaro. Platform mate Cadillac’s ATS Coupe was successful in looking nothing like the Camaro.
Artist should go back to the drawing board-literally.
OKAY, all I see is a Camaro. There is not one thing that says “Oldsmobile” about this “vehicle”. Nothing at all. Try again, if you want to waste your time…
Strange but alot better than what is being designed or pushed today. Atleast its not some pansy waist crossover. Atleast there is appeal and emotion. THis is better than what those who are paid to design cars can do.
Better than what is being designed now. Its not perfect but the Cutlass had appeal and was popular and what the market place wanted as its successful decades long run showed. THis artis is not paid by GM but my heck has better passion and design thinking, and atleast no thought of an idiotic electric car, or crossover.
