General Motors unveiled the refreshed 2022 GMC Terrain just last week, and with it, the new off-road-focused AT4 trim level. Although GM did not officially confirm as much in last week’s debut, GM Authority has learned from sources familiar with the matter that the new 2022 GMC Terrain AT4 will be offered exclusively with AWD.
Offering the 2022 GMC Terrain AT4 exclusively with AWD makes sense for an off-roader trim level. Notably, the GMC Acadia AT4 is also offered exclusively with AWD.
Interestingly, the AT4 will be the first Terrain trim level offered exclusively with AWD.
Other notable upgrades for the Terrain AT4 include a unique front fascia, gloss black-painted wheels wrapped in off-road tires, a steel protective front skid plate, and AT4 exterior badging.
Under the hood, the 2022 GMC Terrain will be powered exclusively by the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX gasoline engine. General Motors originally planned to offer the 2022 GMC Terrain with the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine as well, but as GM Authority covered previously, The General ended up changing those plans, and will no longer offer the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine with the 2022 GMC Terrain.
Back in July of 2020, GM Authority reported that GM dropped the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LTG gasoline engine from the 2021 GMC Terrain and 2021 Chevy Equinox lineup, leaving the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX as the exclusive powerplant option. The turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX will continue to be the lone engine option for the new 2022 GMC Terrain AT4 as well, despite earlier reports to the contrary.
In addition to introducing the new AT4 off-roader trim level, the 2022 GMC Terrain also debuts a restyled front fascia with new C-shaped LED headlamps, revised fog lights and daytime running lights, new LED tail lamps, and further enhancements for the range-topping Terrain Denali. The Elevation Edition is set to return for SLE and SLT trims, while the interior comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and a new color head-up display for select trims.

Naturally we got to have the supposedly tough looking exterior and all show and no go versions. Waiting for the announcement that the 2022 Malibu will be 1.5 only powered with some bogus really low take rate for the 2.0 Premier.
All year waiting for gm to announce 2.0 litre making its way back into terrain instead gm disappoints once again and really wanted to purchase the new refreshed 2022 Terrain denali hoping that 2.0! L power plant was still available gm doesn’t like its Denali customers I think !!!
I agree with your comment this will be the slow death of the terrain like the equinox getting rid of the 2.0 option that was the best thing about the equinox and the terrain
agreed i waited this year and did not buy a left over 2020 with the 2.0l as i really like the AT4 and planned to get one with the 2.0l
i will have to drive one before i make my decision , but i think the terrain may now be off my list . Too bad for GM,. they want everyone to think the ICE is dead so they discontinue a bunch of engine choices and then say , see they did not sell !!
This will die a slow and low sales death… it doesn’t matter what they do on the exterior now that the 2.0t is gone. Same for Equinox.
Yes sir gm sure know what people want shopping at your local competitors eg Mazda CX-5 has 2 engine choices 2.5 and 2.5 turbo with 225 hp boy gm you sure know how to ruin a good thing . By deletion of the 2.0 LTG engine!
I was actually going to buy this car. I waited. Paid off my current car. Was getting all prepped and now this. GM has alienated me for the last time. Guess I’ll be going with one of your competitors
Totally agree was in the same boat waiting for the new refresh Terrain Denali 2022 but gm confirmed engine choice now going to purchase vehicle from
Other manufacturers just very disappointed really waited for the let down I just don’t understand why gm is doing that and don’t think it’s coming back in 2023 and I’m sure not going to wait that long gm good luck with your go-cart engine!
