2022 GMC Sierra Denali Reveals Revamped Grille In New Spy Photos

Last week, we brought you fresh spy shots of the upcoming 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation and 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation with the X31 Off-Road Package. Today, we spied the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali 1500 wearing production-spec parts, giving us our best look yet at the front fascia, including details about the grille and headlights.
Even though the prototype is wearing a healthy level of camo, we can still see several important grille details showing through. Compared to the 2019-2022 Sierra Denali, the grille on the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali appears to have a more squared-off shape, doing away with the current Sierra’s tapered grille treatment that narrows towards the bottom portion of the grille. In fact, the new shape of the grille seems to take after the unit used in the GMC Sierra HD.
As for the grille itself, the prototype appears to have five horizontal strips in what appears to be a chain-link effect. By comparison, the current model has a fine-mesh chrome grille treatment separated into three segments.
Additionally, we can see that this 2022 GMC Sierra Denali prototype features production-spec headlights, but the camo sorcerers did a great job in making sure the wrap covers the lighting changes in store.
The upcoming 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 refresh will feature a variety of changes and updates over the current 2019-2021 vehicle, including revisions to the styling with a new front end, new tail lamp design, and potentially a new rear bumper as well.
More importantly, the 2022 GMC Sierra refresh will also include a revised interior with a new dash, a new center stack, a new center console, and new storage features, plus a larger central infotainment screen, and a new gauge cluster with the option for a digital instrument panel.
The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is expected launch later in the 2021 calendar year around the August timeframe. Meanwhile, the 2022 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty, including the 2500HD and 3500HD, will continue on with only minor changes compared to the fully refreshed light-duty 1500 model. The Sierra HD models, however, expected to get a refresh for the 2023 model year.

Looks like the tacky fog light surrounds might survive. I think Silverado is going to win this round by a mile.
The quirky styling from both brands did not go over well. Looks like they finallys straightened out the grill so it doesn’t look so much like a pig nose. A refresh this early is an admission the front end and goofy wheel wells among other things we’re poorly executed.
I love the front sierra front grille and bumper. Its the square fender wells with the cheap plastic trim. Hd’s look even more hideous with the fender wells boot steps in the bed sides. I am a Gmc man too.
Those wheels are nice
Hurry up and just reveal the interior and exterior already!!! We are already over half way through the 21 model year production cycle.
Just reveal the dang thing.
Was really hoping to see the side step ahead of the rear wheel, from the HDs, transition down to the half tons. But other than one set of spy photos form last year the step hasn’t shown up on any other test vehicles so it seems doubtful. I’d like to have it for accessing a bed tool box or when strapping my quad in the bed… full length wheel-to-wheel running board is the next best option
The retractable running boards can move towards the rear wheel, if you can stomach the cost/complexity. I agree, it’s nice to have a place to step in that area.
You can get wheel to wheel running boards that aren’t powered
you know what would be awesome if the had paint matched fold out side step in front of the wheel arch that could have a small leaver similar to the f150 but intergraded into the fender.
I think it looks good compared to some. Be nice if they would offer it in a regular cab short bed and off road package.
Dang it looks like the same taillights to me
Are they returning to rounded wheel wells without the cheap looking plastic trim? I hope so.
The trim is necessary, I don’t hate the hate of this, and the sharp wheel wells make the truck look nice. Doesn’t hurt the Tacoma, doesn’t hurt this truck. People need to get off this trip already. You can buy the color matched ones if it triggers you so much lol
Why is it necessary? All it does is A) cheapen the vehicle or B) try and give it a rugged look which it fails to do. It isn’t at all necessary, just keep nice painted fenders like they did for 100 years before… Less upkeep, nicer look and less cost as you aren’t having to alter, modify and design pieces to go with the fenders.
i still think that the most important part of this refresh is how far and Bold GM gets with the interiors.
If they don’t get the interior right (and there is no excuse given the competition) then they are dooming their sales. Get rid of the rock hard Mattel plastic in the lower front panels and the rear. The current dash plastic is worse than the previous generation.
That is what everyone said who was sad and whining they didn’t make some luxury car interior in the current gen which has an excellent user friendly and useful interior. Chances are anything they do will reduce functionality and add small buttons, harder to use controls and fancier yet less durable materials. You should give zero craps about how nice the materials are at the bottom of the door, this isn’t a German luxury car. Costs are getting out of control because of people like you wanting every square inch of the truck like the German sedan you traded in for the macho image of a truck. This needs to stop, the people who actually use and need a truck are getting priced out because of what is getting added and the development costs of the box checker trims have to get passed down the line. The current interior is great, needs no work and is selling fantastic (have you checked the sales charts?). Leave it alone, unfortunately the lesser truck crowd appears to be winning this argument and every actual truck person that doesn’t care about massaging seats has to pay for it (literally). All while the car guys who are now buying the box checker versions run down to the store and put on a leveling kit with aggressive tires (and then complain about tire noise), black dished fuel or method wheels and a tonneau cover who in turn blind on coming traffic…
People aren’t spending 80-100k onDenali trucks to run gravel, sod and drywall, with pearlescent paint no less. If you’re spending Mercedes money, the interior should be equivalent to an 80-100k vehicle. I.e. get rif of the Mattel plastic.
Pricing you out of the market is not the concernern of GM. The Denali is there to make money and appeal to a more discerning customer with the money to spend. If you want functionality and utility you can buy the W/T or SLE. Those folks aren’t priced out of the market at those trim levels. And you get to keep your Mattel plastic.
I own a 2019 K2500 denali. everyone above is right, its a cheap dam truck for the money. if you own a white denali and take the Denali name off the side of the truck, it looks like a custom work truck, cheap black wheel lip moldings, stupid crap black bumper steps, cheap thin seats, cheap interior, crap black wall good year tires, cheap [email protected]@ tail gate handle, interior door panel cubbies are dam useless , blown plastic every were, stupid window switches , now for the current model 2021 truck they added more cheap black plastic bed steps, wider cheap plastic wheel lip moldings, a 3″ cheap plastic mud guard , stupid looking mounted mirrors , raised the height of the truck 2.5 inches , a tail gate that requires a masters degree to operate, and of course dont forget to remove the hitch receiver or you will get damage, no two tone paint available if you like it , Fake Allison transmission, its insane how cheap they look. thats my 2 cents
I really don’t know why GM needs a refresh on the trucks, it’s only been 3 years since this new generation came out. I have a 2019 Sierra and find the exterior and interior just fine. It’s user friendly and I really don’t need big touch screens and fancy stitching and badging, I’m a big believer in function over form.
People are just complaining because Ford and RAM are adding all this other crap that you don’t really need so now GM has to do the same which is jacking the prices on these trucks and making them more unaffordable.
It was supposed to be a smashing success and it bombed. The Super Duty kills it in design. A refresh this early is an admission to failure. Both trucks are over designed and it was designed by committee a no-no. Remember the Malibu in early 2000’s? It was designed from thousands of customers input through a giant survey. Big mistake. When they advertised that the new generation is supposed to be a major upgrade and then your sales fall behind Ford that’s called a bomb.
Personally, I’m waiting to find out if the 2022 Sierra or Silverado trucks have four corner air suspension with a kneeling feature like the SUVs. As half ton trucks have grown taller and I have grown older, it’s a feature I would love to see.
Ensure there is a proper moon roof
Ensure there is a inverter in the truck like the ford
Ensure the interior is upscale and proper
Ensure the body of the truck stays the same
Ensure the price is same or even lower
