2021 GMC Sierra Gets New Illuminated Front GMC Emblem

New 2021 GMC Sierra customers can let their GMC pride shine bright with the illuminated front GMC emblem.

The illuminated front GMC emblem for the 2021 GMC Sierra is tagged with RPO code RN2, and is offered as an LPO-level option, which means it’s delivered to and installed by the dealer. The 2021 GMC Sierra illuminated front GMC emblem is available on Sierra 1500 AT4 and Denali trim levels, as well as the Sierra HD AT4 and Sierra HD Denali. Pricing is set at $475.

Back in May, GM Authority was the first to report that the GMC Yukon would offer be the first GMC product to offer an  illuminated front GMC emblem, falling in line with broader automotive industry styling trends. In February, we got a closer look at the optional styling upgrade on the nose of the 2021 GMC Yukon AT4, adding an extra dash of premium styling to the off-road-ready SUV.

The illuminated front emblem is back-lit, and while the extra lighting is visible during the day, it’s most dramatic at night. With the sun down, the back-lit badge clearly defines the GMC logo, providing a premium appearance.

No doubt, the illuminated front emblem will look great on the grille of the 2021 GMC Sierra as well. Given the option’s availability on the off-roader AT4 trim level and range-topping Denali trim level for the GMC Sierra 1500 and GMC Sierra HD, the option should help the trims stand out from the rest of the lineup when equipped.

As a reminder, the GMC Sierra 1500 underwent a complete overhaul (redesign and re-engineering) for the 2019 model year, while the GMC Sierra HD underwent a complete overhaul for the 2020 model year. As such, the latest 2021 model year ushers in just a few minor updates and changes compared to the preceding 2020 model year on both fronts.

  1. Instead of charging $500 they should give a $50 credit for a free night time lighted billboard.

  4. So I guess Mercedes was the first manufacturer to start off this trend and now every other manufacturer wants to follow suite, though the appearance looks nice, it’s not worth $500.00 for a luminated badge.

    1. Hudson had them in the 50s. The Pontiac Indian hood ornaments lit up.

      1. Packard had them, too. But those were beautiful Art Deco sculptures that just so happened to be hood ornaments. There’s no art in the chintzy modern Mercedes inspired illuminated billboards.

  5. So the Ford boys get an electric F-150 and we get an electric emblem. Seriously GM?

    1. We do have the GMC Hummer along with Silverado EV that’s on they way!

      1. Unless you are Lebron James, who can afford the GMC Hummer. GM has not confirmed an EV Silverado and the rumored picture of the Chevy EV appears to be along the lines of an new Avalanche.

        2. Who cares what it’ll be called. If you want a more affordable GM electric truck from Chevy, you’re getting one. And an electric GMC Sierra, too. Glass half empty guy, clearly.

  6. Meanwhile, still stuck with craptacular interiors!

    1. Interiors have always been an afterthought at GM. It is nothing new as GM has been doing this as far as I can remember. They have always produced image vehicles to get other peoples attention. GM has made some great exterior designs but the interiors have always been subpar. There is a reason the lowriders, lifted trucks and others have always been attacked to GM. Because GM has always played to that crowd.

  7. Illuminated badges are tacky on Mercedes and so it goes with every other copycat. An industrial grade metal emblem would be much more appropriate. “Trends” is synonymous with “lacking originality”. Truck ricers – now that’s a good one, dude.

  8. GM is really living up to their name… Just your GENERAL run of the mill car company… They are so reactive to what the market does, that true leadership is nonexistent.

I’m not the biggest fan of EV, but even Hyundai has a steady run of them. Typical GM just waiting to see how well they really take hold before they commit. By then, the market has found something new, and GM remains a also ran…

    Don’t care about lighted emblems.
Care about beefed up frames and bulletproof motors. Not so long ago the frame in the F150 was better built, engineering and strength, than the gm twins. That gap is gone now. That’s a good thing and worth discussing, not bleeping emblems.
Engine choice. It sounds like gm is second guessing themselves, again, and throwing darts to determine direction. Interiors. Well to be honest I think the Ford interior is miles ahead, it is. And the Ram interior started kicking ass a few years ago. Ford is there. Gm’s new interior is coming….and it finally may be a good one.
Unfortunately, I am leaving the fray. Had thought since last year about getting a truck and looked closely at the twins and the F150. I believe, today, that the F150 is superior. I hope gm can raise the bar as it were and innovate as this is what Ford has been doing. After saying that I have decided to step away from the truck purchase. I had looked at Accords and wondered for awhile about them but no.
As for a next vehicle it will be a Kia Sorento. A family man. Wife and 3 children.
Good luck to all. Keep fighting for better vehicles and never let gm ( or any manufacturer) off the hook. They are accountable and must earn our dollars. Nothing phoned in. Nothing half assed. Consumers are more knowledgeable than ever with info available and testing done by so many third party companies.
    Best wishes to all.

  12. Hello, this is a tricky question, how could this GMC illuminated emblem be install on a 2016 Yukon Denali? Since It is not compatible with the light harness. What is needed to hot wire it to the car safely so it is on when the engine is running without ruining anything? Thank you for any help.
