2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Adds New Entry-Level Elevation Trim

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 is the third model year of the fourth-generation vehicle, ushering in several updates and changes over the preceding model year. Now, the latest GMC Sierra will soon be available with a new entry-level Elevation trim.

Although the GMC Sierra 1500 is already offered in an Elevation trim level, the new trim discussed here is considered a separate, “entry-level” Elevation trim. Given the GMC Canyon pickup truck offers both an Elevation and Elevation Standard trim, it bears to reason GMC might adopt a similar strategy with the Sierra as well.

The new entry-level Elevation trim for the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 is tagged with RPO code 3VL, while the “standard” Sierra Elevation is tagged with RPO code 3SB. Unfortunately, no pictures or pricing information is available for the 3VL GMC Sierra 1500 entry-level Elevation trim at this time. However, we do have a number of key facts that provide further insight into what the new trim offers and how it fits into the Sierra lineup.

For starters, the 3VL entry-level Elevation trim level is only available in Double Cab 4WD and Crew Cab / Short Bed 4WD body configurations with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine and eight-speed automatic transmission. We also know that 3VL is standard with the P275/60R20SL all-terrain blackwall tires (QAE) offered as optional on other trim levels. What’s more, the entry-level Elevation trim is only available with a 40/20/40 split front seat, whereas the 3SB Elevation trim offers the option for two bucket seats with a center console (A50). The entry-level Elevation trim is also equipped as standard with the bed-mounted 120-volt power outlet (KC9) and instrument panel 120-volt outlet (KI4) offered as optional on the 3SB standard Elevation trim.

There’s also a long list of equipment that’s optional on the 3SB standard Elevation trim, but incompatible with the new 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 3VL entry-level Elevation trim, including (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):

  • Preferred Package (PDQ)
  • Driver Alert I package (PQB)
  • Premium Infotainment System with 8-inch diagonal color touchscreen (IOS)
  • Bose Sound System (UQA)
  • Spray-on Bedliner (CGN)
  • X31 Off-Road Suspension Package (X31)
  • X31 Off-Road and Protection Package (RFX)
  • Integrated Trailer Brake Controller (JL1)
  • MultiPro Audio System by Kicker (PDV)
  • Max Trailering Package (NHT)

    1. I stick by my comment,do a poll and call gmc dealers and ask them when a single ONE will come in,some dealers rarely have anything lower than a high optioned slt on their lot.

      1. I don’t know about where you are, but around here (south Jersey), the dealers all stock Elevation’s.

GMC dealers do stock a lot of high end Denali’s, SLT’s and AT-4’s, because that’s what people buy from GMC. But that said, the Elevation actually sells quite well, and most dealers around here always have an assortment of them in stock. The dealer I use has both GMC and Chevrolet stores, and a quick look at their website shows they actually have more Elevations, than any other Sierra model. Of the 44 Sierras they show in stock, 3 are base level trim, 2 SLE’s, 14 Elevation’s, 10 SLT’s, 6 AT-4’s and 9 Denali’s. Interestingly, their Chevy store’s Silverado inventory lists 59 trucks, not one of them being an upper trim LTZ or High Country.

        1. with the low inventory conditions and the almost impossible task of doing dealer trades they are selling there on order and in-transit units especially units with higher trim levels.

        2. That’s a completely different Elevation if you read the article. the new base isn’t even available yet to order.

  2. With gas prices going up as fast as they are, it wouldn’t surprise me if this sells well. They can’t keep enough Trailblazers on dealership lots right now. Have plenty of Blazers and Equinoxes on their lots and if you can play around and deal, you might get away with murder on an Equinox right now. The Trax is doing pretty well. We’ll have to see the fuel consumption numbers. My guess is avg. range City: 14-17. Hwy: 20-24. Maybe a little less.

    1. if you puppy it around town you will pick-up probably 3-4 mpg. on the highway not much more than a 8 which can run on 4 or 7 down to 1 cyls.also do not put the pedal to the metal, ask any hair dryer owning ford guy

  3. Looking at the GM Ordering Guide, this appears to be a price leader, quick order package, for the 4 cylinder Sierra. To me it has all the earmarks of a spring time special package, a one size fits all package that can be advertised at a special price, to bring people into the dealerships. The only options I saw, other than colors, were all weather floor mats and an upgrade to the radio. Everything else is either part of the standard equipment package, or not available at all.

The Elevation 3VL doesn’t have any off-road aspirations either, as it doesn’t come with any of the AT-4’s off road parts, and neither the X31 Off-Road Suspension, nor the 2 speed transfer case, are available on it.

  4. I saw a surprising number of Custom 4 door Silverados sitting on the dealer lots this past weekend, all with 2.7 turbo engines. They are getting ready for 4 dollar a gallon gas in some areas. Its already basically 3 bucks here in some stations and March has just started!
