The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer debuted just last week, dusting off the Wagoneer nameplate after almost three decades. The new SUV is set to rival the 2021 Chevy Tahoe and 2021 Chevy Suburban in the segment, so now, we’re taking a look at all three in the following GM Authority Dimensional Comparison.
Exterior Dimensions
We’ll start with exterior dimensions, and right off the bat, the 2021 Chevy Suburban looks to be the biggest SUV of the three, with an extra 11.1 inches in wheelbase and an extra 11 inches in overall width compared to the new Wagoneer. Meanwhile, the 2021 Chevy Tahoe is the smallest of the three with regard to those measurements, measuring in with a wheelbase that’s 2.1 inches shorter than the new Wagoneer, and overall length 4 inches shorter than the new Wagoneer.
The Wagoneer is also the widest of the three SUVs at 83.6 inches, 2.6 inches wider than the Chevy Tahoe and 2.5 inches wider than the Chevy Suburban.

Not sure about Jeep products now but after buying a very expensive Rubicon several years ago and having to replace an engine after 70k miles I won’t being going back to Jeeps for anything anytime soon. On our 5th Denali XL with the new 21 version for our primary “road trip” car.
GM products are hard to beat.
@ Scott
I’m also wary of Chrysler products and the only ones I would consider buying are a Challenger, Charger, or Wrangler.
I wouldn’t buy any. GM has and always will be the better machine.
You guys are nuts… or rare. My GM vehicle was recalled 8X in 36 months, NEVER again….
The GMs have 4 inches more legroom for the driver versus the Jeep.
Stop right there…no Jeep for me,
That would be the major deal breaker for me. At a barefoot 6’4″, I would have to drive that Jeep without shoes and with my legs spread wide.
Jeep will catch some customers for sure. Tahoe/Suburban will be still a iconic in this class. Ford/Lincoln got decent room for many years. But black GM full size SUV is the King
What happened to the law that vehicles over 80 inches wide need roof marker lights?
The law is still in effect. The requirement is subject to a very detailed definition:
“…nominal design dimension of the widest part of the vehicle, exclusive of signal lamps, marker lamps, outside rearview mirrors, flexible fender extensions, mud flaps, and outside door handles determined with doors and windows closed, and the wheels in the straight-ahead position. Running boards may also be excluded from the determination of overall width if they do not extend beyond the width as determined by the other items excluded by this definition.” (NHTSA)
These big SUVs squeeze by this requirement because, excluding outside rearview mirrors, they are less than 80 inches wide. The Ford Raptor for example is 86.3 inches wide before considering the outside rearview mirrors. Hence the marker lights. Hope this helps!
Iam afraid of Chy quality, but GM still has a long way to go on interiors, GM just unable to get away from God awful black/grey and hard plastic and very few soft touch points, thats way I went to Ford.
That’s hysterical that you think Ford has better interiors with soft touch points.
Have you been in one lately? Cause I have a Ford and sister has a Chevy and really question why you think the Ford is better.
Iam afraid of Chy quality problems, but GM is still unable to get away from crappy hard plastic interiors and God awful black/grey interiors.
I don’t get how you can charge 80k and give people horrible interior quality and build quality. How they should do grey interiors is have a lot softer looking leather for starters and reduce the plastic and have engine turnt aluminum or a dark ash wood instead and of course they should’ve made the second row seats full powered and they should’ve at least had better back support which makes my back hurt just looking at it. They same goes for the Expedition and its XLT trim. Too much plastic and the trim looks cheap and cold and like you just bought a Fiesta not a 70k vehicle. The Wagoneer has properly addressed the overpricing and poor interior quality and with that I expect great success and I hope great success for the Wagoneer due to giving people what they want (a proper V8 with great power and interior quality for less)
Mostly it splits the difference between Tahoe and Suburban outside. The interior space may not sell it. It would take the Jeep name.
And then there were the looks. Jeep wins by a mile there.
I assume your blind?
Assuming you are… the Jeep is much better looking, that’s a fact, not opinion. Interior is nicer too… Dash is years ahead w/the integrated screens…
Sorry, your opinion is not fact. That’s very subjective. I agree with you for the most part, except I dislike the rear. Either way, no one can state their opinion of looks as fact. for anyone but themselves.
I’m kinda disappointed that they didn’t do the light bar. It looks a lot more bland and cheaper without it but the back is horrible and very simple but sometimes simplicity is good but it sounds their reasoning was that they got better cargo room because of it but I wouldn’t be surprised if when they do restyle it the back is going to be the largest change.
Chase: I totally agree. Opinion is not fact. And like you I do agree otherwise with the comment.
Chase – No you’re wrong, its a fact…
Shockandawe: Why do you assume such? Have you not looked at both the Tahoe and the GW? GM messed up the exterior styling by going with such strange proportions. They all look quite top heavy and just don’t show well on the street. On the other hand, this GW Jeep looks fantastic.
So why do I get the feeling that you are just blindly looking at this from being a GM fan rather than just looking at how they actually look? I’d bet my next paycheck that if the emblems were switched and this GW was actually the GM, you would be shouting to the stars how much better looking it is.
I’m a fan of GM, yes. I’ve also owned many other brands and a lot of Jeeps. Never has a Jeep let me stranded unlike a couple GM’s over the years. But put the brand aside and just give the GW credit for being a very attractive vehicle.
Honestly need to compare the Wagoneer to the Escalade and/or Denali. The finishes on the Wagoneer makes the Hoe and Burban look like work trucks.
An 88k Jeep is a joke.
Scott: Why? At 88K, is the Denali a joke? Personally, I feel they are all too expensive. But this Jeep GW at 88K will compete with the Denali and Escalade and Lincoln Navigator.
You can’t compare the Cherokee interior this is a wow,,,and the colour wow,,
It’s 88k, it really should be compared to the Denali or Escalade.
That’s the Grand Wagoneer thats 80k not the Wagoneer which is priced at 67k but they haven’t released the base model yet and the Wagoneers competing against the Tahoe/Suburban, Expedition, Yukon, and is starting to go into Denali territory but not quite.
Since a there is not a single person commenting that has actually sat in one of these or driven one I find it interesting there is so much passion for an 88k Jeep that only exist in pictures.
Lets see how it actually looks when it hits the showroom floor and how it really drives.
Jeeps are popular as off-road vehicles but always failed miserably in anything other than that.
It’s only 66k for the one in the picture above. Know your facts before you start talking and I have a friend who works at a Jeep dealer and just in the past few days they got over 150 reserves and they are far from the biggest Jeep dealer in the area. And clearly you haven’t driven a Jeep at all but I do have to say that when I rented a wrangler and it’s interior and ride quality sucked so bad but the Grand Cherokee is a great vehicle and there’s a reason why it sells more than almost every single vehicle in the market. They also worked on the Wagoneer for over 8+ years just to get the current one where as Chevy might’ve worked on the Suburban and Tahoe for maybe 4 years if even and I doubt that they’re going to add features as it gets extremely outdated not to mention that it’s about to have all of its best in class features swept away from them and the Expedition is being refreshed for 2022 also so I wouldn’t be surprised if in all the major car magazines the Suburban and Tahoe would be ranked last (minus the extremely outdated Japanese large SUVs) with the Wagoneer in 1st and the Expedition in 2nd. Facts over feelings.
Like it or not, the Wagoneer is going to be #1 in the segment. It has a better interior, a lot more features standard for a lower price, a better engine, and it associates with a large amount of nostalgia to a lot of Americans and overall it’s the better value and considering how much recalls have been made on the Suburban and Tahoe I think people are more willing to trust Jeep since they’ve been working on this for over 8 years so they better have everything right after spending that much time but so far they hit all the check marks for the average American and what they want as a full sized family 4×4 SUV. Not to mention that they’re going to have a plug in hybrid (note: they haven’t officially released it but it’s obvious that it’s coming) which is a lot better option than a Diesel engine and I think that the plug in hybrid just seems more modern and cool than some old Diesel engine that has been around for hundreds of years where as you have a cool new class exclusive power train with great mpg, near instant torque and so on.
It’ll never be #1. It’ll likely be a success, but it won’t be number 1 in segment, not by a long shot. Not that many are truly nostalgic over the ‘Wagoneer’ name, that’s a niche group. Jeep however is on an upswell, but that’s not enough to carry it to #1 in it’s segment, just have to be real. And you speak of recalls, but Jeep is a far more damaged brand when it comes to reliability under the Chrysler family, they’ve been notoriously bad.
I think it’s a good looking SUV, but trust? Nah, not ready to do that yet, especially in the first model run.
Great observation. Funny how the Grand Cherokee is nearly 11 years old and routinely outsells every single model of any GM SUV/CUV every single year… but this one is going to fail… your comment about reliability is irrelevant as you figure this vehicle is going to be like what the Chrysler 200? You don’t think they know this has to be right and special? These guys aren’t like the morons at GM with their “just enough” No this thing is going to fly off the lots…. full tilt too…
That GW interior is mind blowing amazing compared to GM siblings. I bet it threw GM off guard for sure.
Plus you get a 6.4L V8 standard and air suspension. That kind of luxury for under a $100,000? If I could afford one I would buy this thing for sure. I’ve never been keen of Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep product quality, as they’ve never really been known for building reliable vehicles, but their new ownership could help change that especially starting with the new Wagoneer.
Has anyone sat in a Kia Telluride or Palisades? Now I know why they are flying off dealing lots because for the price, no domestic automaker can compete with how nice of a vehicle those 2 vehicles are inside and out. It blows a Chevy Equinox and a Traverse to shreds when it comes to interior quality, styling, luxury and price
As far as the Grand Wagoneer goes, it looks better than the Escalade in every way. Yes I said it. The current “Slade” is ugly. The interior is nice, but damn that GW has so much detail and nice stitch patterns, wood trim, and a general sense of kinda old school luxury. One YouTube channel TFLT actually did an overview of the GW and you’re able to see the interior up close and it’s literally S-Class quality but in a Jeep. The huge rear seat armrest with a screen in it is crazy cool! Looks like what a Rolls Royce should have. Not even the Escalade looks as nice in the back seat which looks very pedestrian I might add. Plus the seat patterns and leather also looks to be of higher quality than anything GM puts out.
Overall the Wagoneer and GW is going to take up a huge chunk of market share from GM’s full size SUVs, Ford including.
A smash hit for Jeep!
Totally agree with you…
The Jeep is the only vehicle here I would buy. I already have two FCA Vehicles, and never any problems what so ever,so why change now, plus the Jeep looks way better.
