2021 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Launches In Mexico

Exactly one year after the official announcement of the new Chevrolet Corvette’s arrival in Mexico, General Motors has just officially launched the convertible variant of the iconic sports car in the Mexican market. In this sense, the arrival of the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible ushers in the second model year of the C8 Corvette in the Latin American country.

As such, the main novelty of the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette in Mexico is the addition of the second body variant with the first retractable hardtop in the model’s history – although a single unit of the 2020 Corvette Convertible was officially sold in the country. The retractable hardtop features a fighter jet-inspired aerodynamic design that helps reduce wind turbulence in the cabin and provide a more exotic look to the vehicle with the roof up or down.

“When the Corvette debuted in 1953, it was only available as a convertible, so the thrill of open-air driving has always been part of its essence,” said Chevrolet Marketing Manager for GM Mexico, Adriana Schutte, in a press release. “This attribute adds to the incredible design, technology, performance, superior craftsmanship and luxury of the well-known eighth generation, to make it even more fun,” she added.

In Mexico, the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is offered exclusively in a single trim level equipped as standard with the Z51 package. The Corvette C8’s retractable hardtop, which is made up of two pieces and can be activated at speeds of up to 30 mph, excels in providing a quieter cabin, increased safety and a cleaner appearance compared to previous soft-top designs.

Like the Coupe, the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is equipped with the naturally aspirated 6.2L LT2 V8 engine that produces a maximum output of 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque when equipped with the high-performance exhaust system. It’s mated to Chevrolet’s first eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, featuring quick gear changes and steering wheel-mounted paddles.

The 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is now available in the country’s ten official Chevrolet Performance stores, located in Mexico City (3), Monterrey, Guadalajara, Querétaro, Cancun, San Luis Potosí, Puebla and Culiacán. It includes a high level of standard equipment such as OnStar advanced connectivity services as well as the latest version of the Corvette infotainment system, and is GM Mexico’s second vehicle integrating Amazon Alexa.

The 2021 Chevrolet Corvette’s MSRP in Mexico is 2,790,000 MXN, which is equivalent to about $133,320 USD at the current exchange rate.

  9. So let me understand this, GM ‘Authority’ can’t even find the correct interior photo for the article? I wonder what else they get wrong.

  10. Drug cartels will love it, doubt most Mexicans couldn’t afford a Corvette.

    1. Most Americans can’t afford it either yet it sells well here.

    2. Many areas in Mexico can make many cities/towns in the US look like a 3rd world country. Lots of wealth in Mexico concentrated at the top like what is happening in the US.

  11. This is not a C8 interior. My order is this convertible with torch red and red and black interior and those black wheels and performance exhaust. This waiting is killing me.

    1. They ve changed the interior photo , since some of us first posted. Now it is a C8.

  12. Well, if you see the note there are only 7 cities in which there is enough buying power of anything, which have the Chevy Performace stores. So, yes most of the people that own a Corvette live in those cities.
And as a side note, all of the Mexicans that can afford and have a Corvette was paid in full. Only 26% of them have a credit for their vehicle and 5% go leasing. 69% own their car fully as it comes out of the dealer lot. This is any car below $35,000 US. That is what statistics say.

  14. The other thing they got wrong is the color, Sebring Orange, because you can’t get one after April 28th.

  15. You can’t even buy one here due to popularity, now the morons at GM offer it in Mexico!

  16. Shockandawe I am assuming that you are looking desperately for a Vette and you cannot find one.
2 things: I just went into chevrolet.com, clicked in the Corvette, went to “build your own” and I build one that I could afford.
It is an LT1 package with some options, Silver color. It is quoted at around $68K (I chose nice black wheels). And at the end in the summary section it said that there were 6 like the one I built, around the area for sale in different dealerships.
I called one of them and in fact they had it.
2nd thing: if there are 50 left unsold, why not offer them where they can buy them? They pay in cash and at double the price than in the US. Does it sound like a business case to you?
