Finding that perfect vehicle to handle everything life can throw at it you isn’t always easy – unless, of course, you’re talking about the all-new 2021 Buick Envision. Now, the latest Envision’s multiple personalities are on display in this new Buick commercial.
Clocking in at just 30 seconds, the new 2021 Buick Envision commercial is titled “Quadruple Take,” and opens with a young owner loading up into her crossover utility vehicle (CUV) after an intense workout at the gym. Suddenly, another passenger appears besides the driver, who suggests using the Envision’s available massaging seat function to soothe her aching muscles.
As the 2021 Buick Envision gets underway, another identical-looking passenger appears in the rear seat, this time asking to use the wireless Apple CarPlay system to put some tunes on the stereo. A fourth passenger then appears, asking for the password to the onboard WiFi system.
With all her passengers satisfied, the driver then finds a spot to park nearby. Even though the available space is a little tight, the 2021 Buick Envision is offered with available Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist, making it a breeze.
With so many features and functions, the all-new 2021 Buick Envision is a fantastic choice to do it all, no matter what you are in.
As a reminder, the 2021 Buick Envision ushers in a fresh second generation for the CUV nameplate, once again slotting in between the larger Enclave and smaller Encore / Encore GX in Buick’s lineup. Critically, the latest 2021 model year introduces Buick’s popular Avenir trim level to the Envision lineup. Standard spec includes the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, which produces 237 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 258 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm, and connects to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is an available option. Production takes place at the GM China (SAIC) facility in Shanghai.

Every time I see this thing I do a quadruple take. In the avenir trim it’s really nice. Now make the enclave look like this in order to compete with the new mdx.
I have seen a few Avenir trim models while walking the dogs. Looks like a baby Mercedes GLE rear 1/4 view.
I really think Buick could, and should, do a GS version of this. It already has a few styling cues from the 2011-2017 Regal. It kind of looks like a Regal SUV.
Nice car but author please read the first line of this article. Are you a GM flack or a journalist? You need to do your job properly or tell the readers you work for the manufacturer. You could easily review the commercial and do it objectively ie Buick hopes to convince you that the new Envision… This site has some great journalism but also much sloppiness that reads like it was a cut/paste of a press release. You can do better.
The fact that it is built in communist China when there is room to build it in NA does not even garner a first “take” from me. BTW spare me the lame “you buy stuff made in China” argument. There is a big difference in a $300 TV set and a $45,000 car.
There’s also the issue of choice. When there is no toaster or cellphone made outside of China, US consumers are forced to buy a Chinese product they really don’t want. With the Envision, there are many good choices that don’t involve sending $45,000 USD into a communist nation.
I personally have very few products in my home made in China because I try hard to avoid them and routinely pay more. The Envision isn’t even cheap like most Chinese goods though so there’s no monetary savings for selling out your countrymen. Thus there’s is no excuse for an American to buy an Envision because there are better options out there and no financial benefit.
I agree with you and I try to avoid Chinese made products in light of COVID. I cannot see where anyone would willingly buy a Chinese CUV when there are so many other US made alternatives.
EXACTLY!!!
I agree completely. If this was built in the states I would consider it for my next vehicle, but there is no way I’m buying a vehicle built in communist China. Who bailed out GM anyway? China? I don’t think so – it was the American taxpayers!
Actually China, specifically SAIC Motor ( was called Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp.) did also. They “bought” 1% of gm (it’s lower case now you know) in 2009 and with that transaction the floodgates of “sharing” with SAIC opened. In fact , an argument could probably be made that without that event, and the subsequent power that it afforded SAIC, the Buick “Invasion” might well be assembled here? But it will never be assembled here. When the import tariffs hit, gm said that it would simply eliminate it from the US/NA line-up rather than assemble here. Why? Because SAIC says so.
Wait for the Buick EV on Ultium battery platform. No reason to invest in something that maybe be outdated in a decade or so when the real investment in North America is BEV as GM is leading the charge here.
There is also a big difference where choices are now EVERY limited (electronics), and autotmobiles, which are still made in a variety of countries, including our own.
This is a nice vehicle.
The cold harsh reality is at this price and volume not enough are sold to make money on them here. When they build most of them for China in large volumes they can import it in small numbers with a profit.
I too wish it was built here but they need a lot more volume. So it is either a few imported or just another good vehicle we will never see.
The China problem needs fixed in Washington. If they would stop taking lobby money and change some policies the mfgs could do things differently.
MFG are just trying to survive with the cards they were dealt.
C8.R,
Your statement is completely false. The XT4 rides on the same platform as the Invasion. GM produced about 30,000 XT4’s in 2020. Plenty of room in Fairfax if GM actually wanted to do the right thing.
The China problem doesn’t need to be fixed in Washington. It needs to be fixed in American households. We may not have a choice in phones but there are plenty of products where we do have a choice. I’ll be doing my part to make sure people know where this vehicle is made.
Jofa,
Where ?
Where is a USA made gm vehicle with this nice of interior, and safety options standard ?
There IS NOT ONE !
The XT4 Cadillac Made in the USA, is the closest thing, and it is not close !
And I am a US Buyer, and a five time Cadillac buyer !
If you want a gm vehicle in this size today, THIS is your ONLY option !
gm needs to get on it, in the interior department !
We will NOT own an EV for at least 10 years, do to charging stations in our state.
So where does that leave us, Jofa ?
Also, look at where the vehicle parts are made !
The high cost parts !
The number of parts !
You think that Cadillac XT4 is a US product ?
Sure, the final assembly is at Fairfax, that is IT !
Lifelong,
It’s been a while and way too quiet. Sounds like the Buick salesman hooked you and reeled you right in. You can buy whatever you get talked into but I do find it funny that you act like your back was against a wall.
Where are the parts produced:
You never looked at the XT4 or the monroney label. If you did you would know the engine was built at Spring Hill and the transmission in Mexico. We know final assembly is Fairfax.
In reality you’re just the type of customer GM is counting on. Talk me into it and I’ll cave!
Jofa,
One of the things i like the most on the sites, is the assuming !
You are SO WRONG on how we I buy vehicles !
First off, there is NO sales person involved, no ” salesman hook “.
I research what we want, relatively close, call my dealer ” guy “, and he has whatever we want to test drive brought to our location by person X ( a sales person). In this instance, she test drove the Essence, yet after her Enclave , she wanted a better interior ! The sales person then took the vehicle and away they went. Later we drove to the dealership so she could look at the difference in interiors between the Essence and Avenir. When she sat in the Avenir, she said she wanted to see the price difference, I called my dealer ” Guy ” and he walked out, said hi, and went in and figured out the difference, when she saw the prices, she was willing to pay the less than $2000, for the Avenir trim !
Sold !
NO salesperson involved !
At this point, a sales person, got together all the info, and we came back a later day to take ownership.
Cash buyers remember.
Monroney label !
Ha, Ha, Ha, When congressman Monroney got that passed, it was a law to put a price on the vehicle as to what the ” manufacturer suggested ” the price should be .
As you well know, even that means NOTHING, as the price paid is hardly ever even close to that price.
And just like EVER LAW IN THE USA put forth to a ” corporate pig ” like gm, it is meant to be LOSELY followed !
gm is a capitalist corporation, where the parts, are made, and shipped, and assembled, from any given time, is as fluid as everything else gm !
This is why you dont even know after ordering a gm product, if that product will even be built !!!
gm can and does just change ” at will ” anything they want. Then when you get the vehicle, if different than you ordered, you can chose to accept or deny it !
even the year made ! EVEN THE TRANSMISSION USED !
ANYTHING THEY WANT !
If gm is short on the DUD 2.0T LSY in the states, ” POOF ” hear we found some in the back , Ha, Ha !
You personally buy one of these US built gm vehicles, tear it down, look at the parts, EVERY PART, make a pile for the US labeled parts, and a pile for the OTHER country parts, see what you get !
If an engine casting is cast in China, and machined in the US, is that a US part, or a China part ?
ETC !
Let me know what you find !
Ill wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait !
Like the HUGE EV battery plants gm is building in the US, these are NOT battery plants, they are ASSEMBLY plants !
gm will ship HUGE droves of batteries, into these plants, and assemble the ” vehicle battery ” in the USA !
Lifelong,
You’ve convinced the guy in the mirror with all your excuses. I think you know what excuses are like. Sounds like you may have a few extra. Hope your proud of your 1% American/Canadian parts content vehicle. I feel kind of sad for you.
Plain and simple Jofa !
Its simply a better vehicle !
If gm were to set the XT4 and this side by side, equally optioned, and both built in the same place, FEW would chose the Cadillac !
Put the Cadillac badge on this and sell them !
At least we have one thing in common.
I feel sad for you also !
Jofa, and others here.
Why I think sad about – Jofa
Why, because people here really think by a TV ad or simply telling Americans to buy American will work, or has worked in ANY form !
Its like the buy local and not the net ads !
Look, Americans are Americans, some dont even like being told to wear a mask to save lives, you are now going to tell them what to buy, Ha.
Americans have been ” convincing ” themselves what to buy forever !
F O R E V E R
When given a choice Americans make their own choices !
It does not matter where IT is made !
IT matters WHAT IT IS !!!
Look back a few years, HA those cheap Japanese wrenches, NOW the BEST you can buy !
Those cheap Japanese sedans, now the best you can buy !
IT IS C A P I T A L I S M !!!!!!
We Americans buy what we want, and if it is a better Chinese vehicle for the money, so be it !!
How the h3ll do you think Wal-Mart got so huge ?
Not selling American !!
Again, this is SOLEY do to CONGRESS not keeping the economy up to speed !
Seriously, $7.00 minimum wage, BUT buy American !!
WHAT !!!
How the h3ll can an American buy American, when they make less in wages than a Chinese citizen !!!
PEOPLE, get your heads out of your a$$es !
NOT ONE GOP member voted for an increase in the A M E R I C A N economy !!
NOT O N E !!
But buy American !
They cant even VOTE A M E R I C A N !!!
I believe it was the sage philosopher Ron White that said “You Can’t Fix Stupid”
And it’s pointless to try.
I think many of America’s problems are, at their root, the stupidity and selfishness of her citizenry.
YEP,
I agree with you both !
You can’t fix stupid !
Yet who is correct ?
Look at what is going on,
First Japanese vehicles
Them German vehicles
Then Korean vehicles
Now Chinese vehicles
What is your guys response ?
Well everyone in the USA buying these products has to be stupid !!
Ha, HA, HA !
Again just like the rise of Wal-Mart !
All of those Wal-Mart customers buying that Chinese stuff are also stupid !
WHO is the stupid ones ?
This is not a lie !
This is happening right now !
You do know you WE are losing here, right ?
You call me stupid, Ha, Ha, Ha !
I think you need to get up out of your chairs and open your eyes !
You cant make this stuff up, what is happening in America today !
I wonder when this administration tries to pass an infrastructure package if ONE GOP congress person will vote for A M E R I C A ?
As a 2016 Envision and current CT6 owner you might want to check out both versions of Envision at the $30K price point. With the new 2021 Envision 2.0T FWD at $26K it is offer much more than economy Japanese at +$30K.
GM Fairfax is going EV by 2023-2024 or so. So figure by next year ICE will start to wind down as suppliers are getting pinched now with semi-conductor shortage.
It is a beautiful vehicle. It would be nice if it were manufactured here, but we would have to circumvent the UAW somehow to get manufacturing full steam back in the US. I do understand the argument for choice however and at the very least we can look at content percentage of US parts to make it more palatable to purchase.
The good thing about buying a GM product is that profits go to GM (even if shared with the Chinese counterpart) vs. say buying a KIA or BMW, which all profits go to the country the headquarters reside.
Mr. Gregory is correct. I have claimed that for years that the profits for a vehicle go to the HEADQUARTERS of the manufacturer. Only GM and Ford are the two large manufacturers of USA origin. Stellantis is foreign owned.
You can buy all the stock you want in Stellantis, Toyota, Nissan, or any other manufacturer you want, and share in the profits through dividend checks.
Besides, I would rather my “neighbors” over in Smyrna, or on-line friends in Decherd get a paycheck to feed their families and support their communities than have profits go to GM in Detroit for cars built in communist China, or to Ford for Mexican cars.
Yep, been saying this for years here.
gm profits go to the stock holders !
Where these stockholders live, is mostly unknown !
Again, another US law !
We used to be able to look it up, as a ” publicly held ” stock !
Nope, not any more. Now a ” fund ” can own stock, and who owns that ” fund ” is unknown !
Its kinda like Mary, and Mark, selling some of there personally held stock ( like they both did a short while ago ) millions of dollars worth. Then turning around and buying back, after the CES show, in a ” fund ” and up goes the stock price !
Did this happen ?
Who knows ?
Yet does anyone here know if the majority shares of gm are owned by China, or Chinese people ?
Why do we have to circumvent the UAW? Do you actually think this vehicle is being sold for less because GM isn’t using American labor?
Even if the profits do go to GM, it does not make it right. Kind of like a person stealing to feed his family. The ends may be “honorable” but the means definitely are not. Remember, the folks building the Invasion in China will never be able to afford a personal vehicle let alone a $45K one. At least the American GM employee will make many auto purchases from GM over their lifetimes.
Tigger,
Is that still true ?
Do you know for a fact that the Chinese person building gm products in China don’t drive them ?
WHO is buying all of these gm products, in China ?
It wont be long, and the world will be spending China currency, not the US dollar.
Unless our US Congress gets stuff done, and quits trying to destroy one another !
“WHO is buying all of these gm products, in China ?”
Umm maybe the 926,328 customers who bought Buick in China last year? Versus 162,749 in the U.S.
For people who can read numbers here’s the link:
https://gmauthority.com/blog/2021/01/gm-china-sales-figures-numbers-results-fourth-quarter-2020-q4/
Dear boomers please quit whining and just simply buy more American cars instead of Japanese/Korean cars. Duh…
True, but I wonder how many buyers like the folks on this forum automatically would not consider it because it is built in China? Perhaps sales would be higher if it was made in the US.
Well Tigger, so far you got 17 likes, so 17 maybe ?
Like I have said before, buying a vehicle ” Assembled ” in the US, means VERY little !
When the gm ” money person ” sits back and counts, labor is in one ” pool” just like every other ” pool ”
Sure, it would be great, ——– ” IF ” —— you could try to make a point with your wallet, like some say !
HOWEVER, you no longer CAN !!!
Just because you buy an American, gm product, the profits go to wherever gm wants them to go !!
Do you think, all the ICE truck buyers want there money going to the EV revolution ? NO they, we want a better truck !!!
Yet they still are buying high priced trucks and gm is spending their money to build EVs !
I had to do a doubletake to make sure this wasn’t a Mazda.
I will never buy a Chinese car.
Why is the HP always quoted as 237 when Buick’s own site has it listed at only 228?
They are selling the Envision as a luxury vehicle but are cutting corners to saves on costs, ie: no massage for the passenger, steering adjustments are manual, outside folding mirrors manual. They separated the camera mirror and backup camera so only the mirror camera has a washer. The Enclave has them together so both get the washer. Factory trailer hitch not available. They may have cut the rain sense wipers as well can’t tell for sure. For a few $ more the XT4 has all these features.
I wonder why US sales of Buick are so low since it’s a historic automotive brand in the US? Could it be that Americans turned their back on American automakers to buy German, Japanese, and Korean designed and built cars and SUVs? Talk about disloyal American consumers! Maybe if Americans bought more cars assembled built in the US, automakers would bring back manufacturing production back to the US instead of paying shipping costs. DUH!!
Could it also be that General Motors hasn’t had a coherent advertising campaign for decades?
Can someone from the Buick design department help Cadillac with their CUV lineup- both interior and exterior?
We bought one of these last week !
Avenir trim !
AWD !
This is a great gm vehicle !
Sure we would have loved to buy the Cadillac XT4, built in the USA, But this in Avenir trim is So, SO, SO, SO, So, much nicer vehicle !
Same platform as the XT4, 2.0T DUD, 9 speed FWD/AWD !
But for my 80 year old mother – in – law, this is a great vehicle to replace her Enclave !
If gm sits this in Avenir trim next to the very best XT4, they will NEVER sell another XT4, the XT4 interior is just BLAH, BLAH !
My Aunt’s lease is up on her Encore and is interested in the slightly nicer, bigger Envision as she like.our 2016. Let you know next month what she decides.
Our family has only bought GMC pickups and SUVs from 1965 -2019.
It’s too bad American leaders have chosen to keep us only a consumer and service economy,
We don’t get paid or build as much anymore. Autos being built mainly in foreign countries may influence the outcome of their sales in the USA.
Funny to see how racism even spread on a car forum like this. First I believe this car is pretty much designed by the Chinese too to compete in the Chinese market, after all Buick is GMs strongest brand in China. So did the redesigned regal, not only this gen but also the gen before it. Buick has been targeting business class and younger generations in China whereas its brand image suits more of a family or older gens in North America.
So why not take advantage of the new design language that has proved to be successful, and get GM revamp the brand image by testing them out in the North American market. If it proves to be successful here, I’m sure GM will bring production line over. It simply costs too much to revamp everything in North America, and what if it doesn’t work the way they expected? Doesn’t it cost more job loss?
Well their logic be like:
1980/90s: Wahhhhhh damn Japanese don’t buy American cars and they keep bringing cheap Toyota and Honda here, how is that fair?
2010/20s: Wahhhhhh damn Chinese buy too many American cars and they are influencing our American car brand, how is that fair?
Oh yeah the racism card. That’s the ticket. You must be devoid of any other argument. What a pathetic place to exist where you see everything in life through that lens. You need counseling.
Phil,
I haven’t read all the comments here but what did anyone say that was racist? I personally said that Americans should not willingly export their fellow countrymen’s jobs to Communist China by buying products made there if they have a choice. I totally stand by that. That’s not in any way a racist statement; it’s looking out for our own self interest. I never buy a Chinese product unless I have absolutely no alternative.
I think the term “racist” is so popular right now and gets ascribed to any kind of statement where folks look out for their own interests. If I don’t want my neighbor, who is a different race from me, putting their trash on my property, I get labeled a racist. That’s not a racist attitude in any way. That’s looking out for ones self and their property or self-interest.
The classic definition of a racist is someone who believes that some races are inherently better or superior to others. Trying to keep your homeland strong and prosperous by supporting local manufacturing or businesses has zero to do with race.
