Three Special Editions Of The All-New Wuling Journey Revealed

Since the official announcement of the all-new Wuling Journey pickup last month, General Motors’ best-selling brand in China revealed the first real-world pictures of the truck, followed by official interior images of its latest product. Now, SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) is showing three special editions of the new Journey, also known as the Wuling Zhengtu, to demonstrate the scope of its first “youth-focused” pickup in the Chinese market.

Wuling Journey Experience Edition

In particular, GM’s second joint venture in the Asian country has shown three highly customized variants of the all-new Wuling Journey, namely the Experience Edition, the Adventure Edition and the Freedom Edition. These three custom builds of Wuling’s first dedicated pickup use the same body, with a better-crafted cargo box and plastic bumpers that make a noticeable visual distinction with the standard model.

Wuling Journey Adventure Edition

While these one-offs are currently just display vehicles with lots of eye-catching elements, seeking to gauge consumer interest, SGMW is planning to market at least one these three special editions to complete the Wuling Journey lineup. The idea is to offer the standard model for those who want a pickup truck to work with, and an enhanced range-topping variant for private customers.

Wuling Journey Freedom Edition

The most realistic special edition of the Wuling Journey is the Experience Edition in red, which features a new grille design and features a striking cargo box with plastic moldings extending to the roof. It’s followed by the white Journey Freedom Edition that boasts the same grille, but adds a specific bumper, more plastic cladding, off-road wheels, a unique box and a roof-mounted storage compartment.

Meanwhile, the Wuling Journey Adventure Edition is a more specialized proposition. Its design differs from the other editions by including a specific grille, horizontal LED fog lamps, more radical off-road wheels and a closed cargo box supporting a special mechanism for camping. As such, the roof includes a pop-up tent, a side access ladder, a roll-out awning and a luggage rack with explorer lights.

The all-new Wuling Journey pickup has the potential to revolutionize the brand’s commercial vehicle offering, ushering in a new category of trucks in the world’s largest automotive market. Undoubtedly, these three special editions foreshadowing a range-topping variant strengthen the youth-oriented pickup’s proposition in addition to expanding its appeal to a greater number of potential customers.

  1. Sign me up for the adventure package! That would definitely be a seller here. Off road ready and small size would work perfect for overlanding.

  2. It has poor proportions.

  3. Well, someone mark this day on the calendar! Dan Berning is actually going to say that the ugly black plastic all around the bottom of this works! For the first time in forever, I feel like the black plastic actually makes the base truck look much better. In fact, every one of the pics look nice.

  4. IMO, all are majorly ugly. Too much crap all over the trucks.
