The C7 Corvette Z06 offers plenty of performance from the factory for even the most speed-obsessed car enthusiasts, but there are always those select few owners that will desire more and more performance. That’s where Hennessey Performance Engineering steps in with its HPE850 setup, a supercharged upgrade package that gives the sports coupe an extra 200 horsepower.
HPE recently took a C7 Corvette Z06 equipped with an HPE850 package to its private test track for some validation testing. It’d be a shame to open up the taps on an HPE850-equipped Corvette Z06 without filming it for YouTube, so the Texas-based tuning shop took a videographer along for the day at the track as well.
The HPE850 package includes a new pulley, high-flow cylinder heads, new long-tube headers, upgraded valve springs, a high-flow intake, and a custom camshaft. Together, these upgrades boost output of the 6.2L LT4 V8 engine from 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque to 850 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque. HPE claims that in ideal conditions, a Corvette Z06 equipped with this upgrade package can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds and complete the quarter mile in 10.3 seconds at 136 mph. HPE upgrade kits also come with a two-year or 24,000-mile limited warranty on Hennessey-installed parts.
For the particularly crazed Corvette Z06 owners who think the HPE850 is lacking power, there’s always the HPE1000 package too, which includes a new centrifugal supercharger system, custom fabricated intake manifold and upgraded valves, lifters and pushrods, among more. An HPE1000-equipped Corvette Z06 can hustle from zero to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and will hustle down the quarter mile in 9.7 seconds at 147 mph.

You know, I like the new c8. It’s quite a bargain for a mid engine supercar. Now don’t hate me for saying this, but I love the look of the c7 better. IMO it just flows with the long bonnet and sculptural lines. I don’t know? The C8 just looks not as good and not corvette enough and a little bit boring. I know the performance is awesome but as far as a design perspective, I think they could’ve done a little bit better. Just my opinion.
The design of the C8 must mature. Everything is beginning to look European in America. Like the vans for instance. I fear the Savannah or Express might morph into an ughlee European look like the Transit or RAM. I agree, the C7 is one of the BEST ever-looking Corvettes and very American looking. The other best-looking one is the 81 or 82 Corvettes.
I agree with you Zcat. In fact, I’ll go one better and say they should have named it the Zora instead. I think it would have been a tribute to the man who is responsible for changing the look of the Corvette in the first place. The C7 is my favorite also. I love their rear end. I have to admit though, I do get a little excited whenever a I see a C8 now, just because it’s new 😁
The technology they put into the C8 is quite impressive. I love the dual clutch.
I love this!
