GM sales decreased 12 percent to 2,547,339 units during the complete 2020 calendar year in the United States market. Sales fell at all four GM brands, including Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC.
In total, GM sold more than 1 million full-size pickup trucks and SUVs in 2020. For their part, crossover deliveries also surpassed one million units for the third year in a row – despite the negative impact of the pandemic.
The results were hindered by roughly 60 days of production downtime as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
GM Leads 2020 Full-Size Truck Pickup Sales
GM is the 2020 full-size pickup sales leader with 839,691 deliveries, thanks to sales gains made by the Chevrolet Silverado and record GMC Sierra deliveries. For the second consecutive year, the GMC Sierra had its best full-year retail and total sales ever, with total deliveries up 9 percent for 2020. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cabs had their best-ever calendar-year retail and total sales.
Chevrolet Silverado sales grew 3.21 percent to 594,094 units:
Silverado 1500 sales decreased 0.5 percent to 436,281 units
Silverado HD (2500HD, 3500HD) sales increased 14 percent to 150,394 units
Silverado MD (4500HD, 5500HD, 6500HD) sales increased 49.5 percent to 7,419 units
GMC Sierra sales grew 8.9 percent to 253,016 units:
Sierra 1500 sales increased 3.9 percent to 179,239 units
Sierra HD (2500HD, 3500HD) sales increased 23.2 percent to 73,777 units

Total GM sales during 2020 decreased 12 percent to 2,547,339:
GM did not provide any information on retail vs. fleet deliveries, a significant and notable departure from the way it reported previously (on a monthly basis)
The automaker did, however, state that it grew share in all three fleet segments. Total fleet share increased nearly 2 points for the 2020 calendar year, posting healthy growth for the third year in a row.
Average transaction prices set full-year records at $39,229, above industry averages, according to J.D. Power PIN data.
GM’s incentives as a percent of ATP were 10.7 percent for the year, according to J.D. Power PIN.
GM ended 2020 with inventory of 410,875 units, including in-transit units, down 205,148 units year over year.

GM utility sales (crossovers and SUVs) fell 12 percent to 1,171,046 units
GM crossover sales fell 9.5 percent to 977,939 units
GM SUV sales fell 18.75 percent to 213,861 units
GM pickup truck sales increased 0.57 percent to 968,538 units
GM midsize truck sales fell 22 percent to 121,428 units
GM full-size truck sales increased 4.85 percent to 847,110 units
GM van sales 31 percent to 70,239 units
GM electric vehicle sales increased 26.4 percent to 20,754 units

GM expects the broader U.S. economic recovery to continue in 2021.
“We look forward to an inflection point for the U.S. economy in spring,” said GM Chief Economist, Elaine Buckberg, in a press release. “Widening vaccination rates and warmer weather should enable consumers and businesses to return to a more normal range of activities, lifting the job market, consumer sentiment and auto demand,” she added.

GM lists it as a crossover. It has similar internal volume as a Chevy Trax.
