With the recent launch of the all-new 2021 Buick Envision, General Motors has just introduced the Amazon Alexa voice-activated assistant to the Mexican market, becoming the first automaker to offer the technology in the country. As such, the 2021 Envision introduces the advanced connectivity service, which will be progressively integrated into the four GM brands’ portfolios in Mexico.
In fact, GM announced that it will use the OnStar 4G LTE connectivity already deployed in a great number of its vehicles in Mexico to integrate Amazon Alexa both in brand-new units and in vehicles that customers already own – in this case through an upcoming over-the-air update. The automotive version of the popular voice assistant will be available for 2018 model-year and newer vehicles, equipped with compatible infotainment systems.
“Through the OnStar connection, we will provide our customers with new technologies that improve the interactive experience with their car, and very soon, it will be present in vehicles that are already in circulation,” said General Director of OnStar Connectivity Services and Customer Experience at GM Mexico, Mario Romero, in a statement. “Integrating the Alexa experience into our models is an example of GM’s focus on meeting the needs of our customers by offering the most advanced voice technologies,” he added.
The introduction of Amazon Alexa Auto in select GM models in Mexico is part of the broader rollout to offer the benefits of the popular voice assistant to millions of Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicle owners throughout North America. The technology initially became available in the manufacturers’ vehicles in June last year in the United States.
Amazon Alexa offers voice recognition for numerous vehicle infotainment capabilities. These include commands for audio streaming services, such as Spotify and Amazon Music. Additionally, owners can use Amazon Alexa to order online or track an existing order, as well as add something to a shopping list without taking their eyes off the road. Other functions include making phone calls, checking the weather, and finding nearly gas stations.
By integrating this technology, GM further strengthens one of its main competitive advantages in the Mexican market by offering the most comprehensive and advanced connectivity in the automotive industry. In conjunction with each brand, and compatibility with the most popular software solutions, Amazon Alexa will bring greater convenience and productivity to GM Mexico customers.

Have it on my 2019 Volt, it’s nice but lacking in a lot of ways.
I have the Spanish version of Alexa at my home . The voice is nice with a mature tone and a bit of a Mexican accent.
PASS.
