The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing sits at the top of the Cadillac performance hierarchy with a thundering V8 monster under the hood. Now, GM Authority has exclusive photos of the CT5-V Blackwing’s engine bay.
For those readers who may not remember, the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is outfitted with the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine. Cradled by the CT5-V Blackwing, this lump-o-go makes a stout 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque, with a standard Tremec six-speed manual transmission onboard to send it all to the rear wheels. A GM 10-speed automatic is optional.
Properly motivated, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing will hit 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. Keep your foot in it, and the sedan will eclipse the 200-mph mark.
Impressive stuff, especially when you consider those numbers are coming from a sumptuous, luxury-laden four-door. Pop the hood, and you’ll find the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 covered in black plastic cladding, something GM Authority has examined in the past. We also spot a large strut tower bar to stiffen up the front end.
Given the 6.2L V8 LT4 was also the engine of choice in the third-generation Cadillac CTS-V, it bears comparing the engine treatments in both vehicles. While the black engine cover design is slightly different between the two models, the overall appearance is more or less the same, with a raised U-shaped piece towards the nose of the vehicle, and a flat, rectangular cover towards the rear.
In addition to the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine, the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing also sports unique aero goodies, including a new front end, front splitter, rear spoiler, rear valence, and underwing treatment as well. Wheel sizing is set at 19 inches, while enormous Brembo brakes (15.7 inches in front, 14.7 inches in the rear) help to shed the speed. Magnetic Ride Control keeps it all shiny side up.

Is there a possibility that a aftermarket tuner can shoe horn a genuine Cadillac Blackwing 4.2L V8 into a CT5-V? Its a taller engine, so some work on the hood might have to happen.
aah the beauty of the GM or “gm”? small block “pushrod” V8!
Gotta love it! 😀
Why ? Evidently there were reliability problems with the 4.2 Twin Turbo engine, so the engineers decided to go with the tried and true LT 4 engine, some times the newest technology isn’t always the best , the longevity of the dual overhead cams and warranty claims were probably a deciding factor.
That may be so in terms of trying to use the 4.2L V8 as a high performance powerplant instead of high speed touring. I still think it a viable attempt to put a Cadillac twin turbo V8 into a Cadillac CT5-V sedan.
I’d like to see AWD in the ct5 with the LT4 to see how quick it can get
AWD would add weight to vehicle and possibly loose time 0-60
I’d like to see it with the LT5 AWD!! That would have been the ultimate V…
I’ve had no problem whatsoever with my 2020 CT6 with the 4.2 Twin Turbo “Blackwing” engine…..
I’m not knocking the 4.2 engine , its a work of art but I don’t think it will have the longevity of the 6.2 engine , especially in a forced induction application . I imagine most CT5 V BLACKWING cars will see more abuse then the CT6 BLACKWING .
I like it. But do you know what I don’t like about it? It’s not free😂
Well, you do hafta pay for the car (CT5 Blackwing). And, I’m assuming there will be a gas guzzler tax added to the sticker….probably $2000…and then there’s that pesky sales tax….and….if your unlucky enough to live in the “tax you to death” state of Va., they have a personal property tax you hafta pay EVERY YEAR for 20 years…it is based on the assessed value of the car each year…so if your CT5 Blackwing has an mfrp. of …say $97,000…just multiply 97 x $50.00 and that is what you will pay in Fairfax county the 1st year…..yep,…$4950.00 the 1st year….and if that isn’t robbery enough…they charge you, EVERY YEAR, a county tag fee….around $40. in ffx county…and they don’t even give you the the tag…there has got to be some larceny there somewhere…….
0-60 times will actually increase with awd considering the improved traction and 668hp and similar torque numbers..Once you get into those power levels and in the same weight class every little but of traction and power transferred t9 the ground become crucial.
I want to see someone throw on a even higher-flowing airbox!
My ctsv is a very fun car to drive, but if my bookkeeper OK”s it {wife} I will try to find a 5. Saturday’s my birthday Babe!!!
The sad thing is, that the only part of that engine that is Cadillac is that Cadillac badge on the plastic engine shroud. The engine is pure Chevrolet Corvette…..
I understand some feel it’s not as exclusive but I personally think it’s a positive rather than a negative. There is absolutely zero shame in saying your car has a Corvette engine. As an added bonus you also receive the Corvettes huge aftermarket potential.
This car has the heart of a warrior , ready to do battle with the euros and never break a sweat .
Thank GOD GM didnt forget the CHEAP 5 cent plastic engine cover! What a relief!
NOWICKI AUTO SPORT made a carbon fiber engine shroud for the 3rd gen CTS V and it was a work of art , hell it might even be interchangeable , I know I will try it before I sell or trade mine in .
Sadly the GM bureaucrats cant tell the difference…
