The GM Authority Take
The rebound in Chevy Traverse sales during the fourth quarter of 2020 is a welcome shift in momentum following a turbulent sales performance throughout most of the 2020 calendar year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which diminished customer demand as well as negatively impacted supply. In Q3 2020, the faster-than-average decrease in Traverse sales volume was attributable to supply issues associated with the vehicle not having fully recovered from the 40 day-long UAW strike during Q4 2019, followed by the two month-long production stoppage caused by COVID-19. As such, a stabilized inventory could have boosted sales for the final quarter of the year.
We expect Chevy Traverse sales to continue growing going forward. The model will soon receive a midcycle refresh, consisting of new front and rear fascias as well as several updates throughout the cabin. The refresh, otherwise known as a Mid-Cycle Enhancement (MCE), was initially planned and announced for the 2021 model year. However, complications brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic caused the update to be pushed back by one model year, so the Traverse refresh will now launch for the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse.
Additionally, increased competition from new entrants, such as the new Kia and Hyundai offerings as well as the new Ford Explorer and Toyota Highlander will make growing a challenge.

This should be good news prior to the release of the MCE
Good news but Chevrolet should be coming closer to Ford and Toyota as opposed to distant third.
Sure, GM has platform mate Arcadia and next to new Blazer but it would be nice to see Chevrolet lead one segment!
Jeep could teach the industry an important lesson. Grand Cherokee is an older design yet it’s great that FCA runs longer production cycles with popular products saving significantly on R&D while t as king less risk.
GM put off the mid-cycle redo until later this year. The refreshment should give the Traverse a boost for the 2022 model starting in September
since 2020 is finished, how about the numbers for the entire year for the traverse and its competitors?
