Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
The substantial increase Chevy Suburban and Tahoe sales during Q4 is welcomed news after the 21 percent decrease reported in Q3 2020. The performance enabled the two Chevy SUVs to continue dominating the segment, with a combined 42,275 units sold, comprised of 28,698 units of the Tahoe and 13,577 units of the Suburban. The Ford Expedition took second place in the segment with 26,091 deliveries (see running Ford Expedition sales), ahead of the Tahoe/Suburban’s corporate cousin – the GMC Yukon – in third place (see running GMC Yukon sales). It’s worth noting that Expedition sales figures include those of the regular-length Expedition (a Tahoe competitor) and the extended-length Expedition XL (a Suburban competitor), while Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe sales are reported separately.

Taking into account the Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon, GM accounted for a dominant 70 percent segment share during the quarter.
The full-size mainstream SUV segment expanded nearly 13 percent to 97,876 units in Q4 2020, meaning combined Suburban and Tahoe sales outperformed the segment average.
The GM Authority Take
Thanks to the healthy increase in volume, Chevy Suburban and Tahoe sales in the fourth quarter enabled the Bow Tie brand to maintain its long-standing position as the undisputed sales leader in the mainstream, full-size SUV space.
We attribute the jump in Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe deliveries during Q4 to the following factors:
- Heightened consideration and interest in the all-new 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2021 Chevrolet Suburban, and
- Improved availability of both models compared to the prior quarter
Going forward, we expect Chevy Suburban and Tahoe sales to continue to increase substantially now that supply levels have improved and continue to climb.

Would love to know if and when the Z71 Tahoe may have the 6.2 liter option available.
I suspect it may be cafe issue at an extra $2500 there should there should be a lot of profit there.GM seems to really picky about what trims can get a 6.2. It surprised me that they put in a custom trim level trailboss.
Production of the 6.2 motor is limited at this point. I believe when the motor becomes more available you’ll see it offered in a wider variety of vehicles.
Its about time that people are realizing that dependably and cost of ownership is the true value of a vehicle – gm rules the the large suv segment because of this ! A whopping 68% – this is gm’s sales figures for all of 1970s gm vehicles combined !
Still no diesel?
GM should learn from success. Suburban, which has been built for years has been able to mature and I would hope improve. It offers a V-8 with proven success. Also a tranny that is big and hearty . Dependability is very important. They need to do the same in lower vehicles.
I think the pre vvt and dod engines were more reliable an easy 200k without major issues and the 4 speed transmissions would give you a good 150k with proper maintenance of course
The Suburban is a true heritage vehicle for Chevrolet and General Motors like the Corvette.
This is well deserved. It finally got better than the Expedition which made the last generation look like a joke and Chevy pulled forward and succeeded I think. My only complaint is how bad the MPG is which is unacceptable since it is literally worse than the 2011 Suburban. They need to add some sort of electrification like Ford’s PowerBoost because how many people are going to buy the diesel model? Basically non. Also it has worse towing power. I mean I thought the entire point of a redesign was to improve it not set it back 10 years but the interior and exterior was a major improvement for sure. But since gas prices are going up the Suburban and Tahoe is going to suffer a bit compared to the Expedition in the future I believe.
I do not know how many mpg the hybrid version adds but I know people who have the turbo versions and if you do not puppy it there is no fuel savings.
Who would buy the Ford Expedition, which forces you to live with a crappy and troublesome twin turbo V6 over a GM with an awesome V8?
I have two vehicles, the 2015 Tahoe and the 2016 suburban. Have not change any spark plugs since. I have it ,2015 Tahoe with 1,000 more will take me to 300,000 miles. Same engine. The secret is for years the only fuel I used is the non ethanol with the pure gasoline I get about 17 in the city and 19 to 20 on hyw. You can almost feel and tell the difference between using the non ethanol which pure gas how the vehicle drive and sound . My advice was s if you able to find a place where they sell non ethanol premure gasoline go for it the price for a a little bit but it worth compare to the opposite and it helps avoid going to the mechanic.
Haha, more fuel myths. Yes, the only reason it lasts is a certain type of fuel, sure… Let me guess, you going to tell us premium gives you more hp and mpg and that amsoil is the only way to go? You can’t feel or tell a difference in the fuel, that is called a placebo effect, as in you want to feel/notice what you think you will even if you aren’t. Happens all the times especially with premium, you aren’t getting any unicorn magic out of it.
