Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

Chevy Spark sales enabled the city car to continue as the best-selling model in its segment during the fourth quarter, outselling the Mitsubishi Mirage and Fiat 500 (the Fiat has been discontinued in the U.S. market after the 2019 model year).

TOTAL -12.60% 15,298 17,504 -13.37% 53,288 61,514

The Spark also dominated the segment share, accounting for 68 percent of the sales volume, up 5 percentage points on an annual basis. Meanwhile, the Mirage held 32 percent while the Fiat 500 made up less than 1 percent. Most notably, the Spark was the only vehicle in the segment to grow share on a year-over-year basis.

The mainstream city car segment contracted 12.6 percent to 15,298 units during Q4 2020, meaning that Spark sales during the quarter outperformed the segment average.

The GM Authority Take

We attribute the decline in Spark sales during Q4 2020 to lower sales during the first two months of Q4 2020. However, GM Authority has exclusively learned that Spark deliveries jumped 60 percent in December.

The Q4 2020 results follow an increase in sales volume during Q3 2020, which represented a significant improvement over Q2 2020, when sales volume slipped as a result of availability-related complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile the Cruze got the axe and Malibu is on the chopping block even though they were/are selling 100,000+ units per year … I guess they either want all of your money or barely any of it

No, they had to get the ax in favor of EVs that will sell in tiny batches as halos.
Cruze was far from perfect when compared to Civic but nothing a refresh couldn’t have delt with. Malibu is a nice, comfortable car especially for road trips. It would have been even smarter to keep Impala, due to the rave reviews, and just reduced the price seeing as the design was long paid for anyway. Offering more for less is how you break rivals!

Party of 3? Looking for the party of……3…….ah, party of 2 1/2?

LOL. Glad the little Spark does well, but it’s really only one of two. the Fiat really doesn’t count any more.

Chevy should bring the Spark EV back. The range is short, but most Spark owners never travel ovet 80 miles anyway. There is a YouTube video where a Spark EV out accelerates a V8 Chevy Camaro.

Raymond: I agree totally. I kind of bounce around from car to car (normally GM, but have had many Jeeps and a few others). Most recently I went from a Spark that I really liked a lot to a Caddy CT4. Those cars may be polar opposites, and I do love my CT4 so far, but I’d go back to the Spark in a second. After all the cars I’ve owned, I’m at a point where I find it difficult to justify the cost of the more expensive brands. Although I got a fantastic deal on my CT4, it’s still not worth double the price of my Spark. Yes, the Spark is that nice of a (tiny) car. To this day, I still wish I would have kept my 2015 Spark EV.

I love my spark EV. Give it more range without making it bigger and I’ll love it.
