The GM Authority Take

The decline in Cadillac XT4 sales volume comes at a time when the model was finding its footing in the highly-competitive segment, gradually increasing sales volume during each quarter in 2019. The fact that the XT4’s segment share fell from 10 to 8 percent shows that it’s being outpaced by the competition.

  1. that’s to be expected…. another late to market poorly executed product that offers nothing other than a brand name.

    1. The XT4 was compelling when it was introduced, but one glance at the interior exposes it as a dated copycat of the XT5, which is, itself, pretty dated now. Lincoln’s offering, the Corsair, has a freshened interior, as does the Nautilus (though neither are segment-leading to no one’s great surprise).

Dimensionally, the cargo area of the XT4 really suffers. I actually had my Cadillac dealer tell me, “the XT4 is just the XT5, but with a smaller trunk space.” Alrighty then. Put me down for two of them.

  3. I guess the customer service drive experience isn’t impressing the neighbors.

  4. The XT4 has a lot to offer and unlike some negative comments made about the interior, I love it. It’s very comfortable, everything is in reach and functional. This car has great looks that set it apart from the general segment. Road handling and steering feel are average and if outfitted and loaded in the sport version, slightly above average but not comparable with its German competition. Where it all falls short is under the hood. Power is OK but this engine runs rough, especially in cold weather when it sounds like a Diesel engine. If they offered a 6 cylinder as an option, sales would increase. Speaking of options, fully loaded this is, apart from the engine, a fantastic vehicle, albeit overpriced. The low end models, not so much.

  5. Maybe I’m to old but it seems to me if Cadillac went back to their roots and quit trying to compete with the German crap they might regain their luxury status again. They’re never going to get into the German crap territory because the people that drive Mercedes and bmw have gotten their heads so far up the south end of a northbound mules posterior they’ll never change. As a senior citizen I would love to have a Cadillac for retirement, but I wouldn’t have one of these euro designed pos if they gave it to me. My dream car has always been a 1957 Coupe Deville, that was a Cadillac.

    1. I for my part was surprised by the leading image to tgis post, showing a XT4 with a German licence plate, of Frankfurt on Main. Here in Germany, GM sold just 36 units in the first 2½ months of selling this car, from mid October to end of December.

  6. Cadillac is a dying brand few people love. This silly IQ naming scheme is anything but smart.
New Buick Envision is superior at a lower price. Buick exterior design is superior to an ackward Cadillac. I’d sooner drive Acura

  7. The XT4 us such a miss. The amount of cheap unpainted plastic on the exterior is unacceptable for a Cadillac. The wheels are so boring & dated. The outdated & cheap analog gauges look lifted from a Chevy Cruze.

  8. The Lexus NX is garbage compared to everyone else in the segment. Don’t understand why folks are buying it over the others other than name.

  9. I drive one myself. Love it no complain. Only problem is the price when you added more options to the car. Cadillac would give more standard option to it base model to compete with other car makers. A new Hyundai Electra base model may have more option than the one I drive.
