Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing, CT5-V Blackwing Feature Standard Brembo Brakes

In the 15th year of the association between the Italian brake manufacturer and General Motors’ luxury brand, Brembo is supplying the standard brake setups for the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing ultra-high-performance luxury sedan and its even more formidable sister vehicle, the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing.

The systems for these impressive models have certain features in common. They both include all-aluminum monobloc six-piston calipers up front, two-piece four-piston calipers at the rear, cast-iron two-piece front and integral rear discs, copper-free pads and an electronic parking brake. The calipers are available in four colors, namely Tech Bronze, Harbor Gray, Edge Red and Royal Blue.

Brembo Brake System Specifications
CT4-V Blackwing CT5-V Blackwing
Front disc size (in.) 15.0 x 1.3 15.7 x 1.4
Front disc weight (lbs.) 27.6 36.6
Front brake pad surface (sq. in.) 17.6 22.0
Rear disc size (in.) 13.4 x 1.1 14.7 x 1.1
Rear disc weight (lbs.) 18.6 24.5
Rear brake pad surface (sq. in.) 6.2 6.6

However, there are detail differences. The front discs on the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing measure 15.0 x 1.3 inches, weigh 27.6 pounds each and are gripped by pads with an area of 17.6 square inches. The rear discs are 13.4 x 1.1 inches in size and weigh 18.6 pounds, and the pad area covers 6.2 square inches. The CT4-V Blackwing is equipped with GM’s twin-turbocharged 3.6L V6 LF4 gasoline engine, which produces 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque.

More braking performance is required for the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, though. As well as being heavier, it uses the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 engine, rated at 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque. Its top speed is more than 200 mph, or at least 11 mph higher than the 189-mph top speed of the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing. Truly exceptional braking is required for a car like this.

And Brembo provides it. Up front, the CT5-V Blackwing is fitted with 15.7 x 1.4-inch discs weighing 36.6 pounds and pads covering 22 square inches. At the rear, the discs measure 14.7 x 1.1 inches in size and weigh 24.5 pounds, while the pad area is 6.6 square inches.

  1. these are horrible afterthoughts by GM. Should have just stuck with electric which was their intent all along. Don’t make gas cars so bad that people want to go electric! There was a time when automakers would make hybrid/electric cars look bad so people would keep buying gassers. Now with Cadillac it is the opposite!

    1. Actually, the “original” intent is ICE. Electric is the next stage.
