Buick and GMC dealerships in the United States are eager to get their hands on some of General Motors’ exciting new products that will launch this year – namely the redesigned Buick Envision and GMC Hummer EV.
Todd Ingersoll, chairman of the Buick-GMC National Dealer Council and CEO of dealer group Ingersoll Automotive, told Automotive News this week that Buick and GMC dealers were “blown away,” by the GMC Hummer EV and are excited by the prospect of being able to sell it.
“It’s great to be at the forefront of the first supertruck ever to come to market,” he said.
Ingersoll acknowledged that there was “a lot of angst early on,” with regard to the GMC Hummer EV launch, as the automaker elected to start taking reservations for the vehicle through the GMC website before funneling those customers to a dealership. GM eased their fears, however, telling dealers “we’re doing this national campaign. We put it out there and we’re going to
direct them right toward you,” he said.
While not as technologically advanced as the Hummer EV, Buick-GMC dealers are equally as excited to receive the all-new Buick Envision, which has more attention-grabbing exterior styling than the outgoing Envision, along with new safety and entertainment technology. The highly successful launch of the Encore GX last year, which is winning over customers with its large variety of standard and available features, also serves as a good omen for the launch of the redesigned Envision.
“(The Encore GX) stands on the strong, steady shoulders of the original Encore, but kicks it up a notch —addresses some of the areas that they could improve upon,” Ingersoll told AN. “It appeals to a broad spectrum of people. And I also think that putting things like automatic liftgates in the vehicle are examples of Buick and GMC’s leadership, listening to the dealers and saying, ‘Look, there’s demand for this, you need to build that in.’ And they did.”
The new Buick Envision began arriving at dealerships in small numbers from China late last year. The GMC Hummer EV, meanwhile, will begin shipping later this year once it enters production at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.

Buick dealers with a GMC arm are run the best shape they have been in for about a decade product wise. They are in the meat of what is selling and few slow movers.
The Hummers will also help bring people in and sell more GMC models too.
It would be nice if soon after the Hummer Drops they had a Buick SUV and a GMC truck in a EV to offer at a lower price.
An electric GMC truck is expected around 2024 or so, and two Buick EV crossovers are coming by 2023. You definitely have the right idea.
I would suspect that the 2024 or more certainly, the 2029/2030 Model Year Sierra will be Fully Electric since gm is already proposing a nearly All Zero Emissions Portfolio by 2035, between that timeline and 2040, those who say that they will never see themselves in an EV, hopefully would not be California residents, the clock is starting to tick on with just less than 2 decades left on California’s proposal to have no I.C.E. vehicles sold within the entire state and a vast majority of other states would follow suite a decade afterward. Regardless, I’m on board for less frequent visits to the Dealerships for Service Intervals other than mandatory tire rotations and perhaps once a year Battery Pack checkups.
I would think they should be eagerly awaiting the 22 Sierra at the end of the year as well. With the new F-150 having an interior on par with the Ram, the Sierra interior really lags behind now, especially in the higher trims.
Recent news coverage of WHO officials visiting Wuhan China showed a caravan of Buick-badged vans transporting them. While minivans are not as popular as they once were, Buick could easily add this to their US fleet. Sales of the Envision do not seem to have been hurt much by their Chinese origin.
The question is: from which country would this van be imported?
I am a die-hard Buick fan. My last three cars were new Lacrosse. I had to lease a Cadillac XT5 a year ago because Buick didn’t have a like-sized vehicle. Please tell me that Buick will fill the void in your vehicle line for the 2023 model year.
Those vans were most likely Buick GL8 minivans that have been built by Shanghai-GM for the past 20 years or so. The GL8 is based off the Chevy Venture minivan platform that was built in the US previously. It is built in China for sales in China.
They are no big deal vans and in this country the minivan sales are going the way of the sedan.
Presumably, it’s built in China at this point…
Would be nice to have the LaCrosse re-enter Buick line up. And/Or Name the electric Buicks Electra and Invicta rather than the “new” names advanced..
Honestly, GMC dealers are more excited to see the updated 22 Sierra. In this day and age, you
Say the wrong thing and you get canceled. Got to be politically correct! Will the 2022 Silverado feature a 5.3 and 6.2 with the variable cam lift tech from the 2.7 turbo? Be nice to have a hot cam profile to bring the 5.3 past 400 HP
Will the ’22 Sierra include a not-ugly interior that was stolen from Chevrolet? Because if not I really don’t see the point in keeping GMC around for another century
Don’t underestimate the importance of the GMC brand…it’s GM’s second-largest and is a boon to Buick dealers.
If GMC is so important, why does it have nothing you can’t get in a Chevy except a ugly instrument cluster and a bad nose job?
By chance have you heard of this new SUV they are bringing out? It’s called a Hummer and you won’t find it at a Chevy dealer.
As an old GM board member once said during the bankruptcy proceedings, “Coca-Cola is really almost entirely just water…but it’s very high-margin water.” That saved GMC, and it’s still true for them today.
If somebody competent is ever put in charge of chevrolet-cadillac maybe the first thing they’ll get rid of is GMC and its pathetic sister Buick. If that ever happens maybe they’ll have something that isn’t Chevrolet with botched nose jobs
I have and I’m not impressed. the old Hummer made Treehuggers miserable. now it’s pandering to them. Like treehuggers actually buy cars other than a Prius. GM is more frivolous than half the lawsuits the judicial system deals with in America every day
It’s always fun reading comments from people stuck living in the past.
Living in the past beats the hell out of living in a future where it’s just a endless rotting cesspool
You seem like a fun guy to be around.
I think GM is heading in the right direction…EV sales are starting to gain more and more ground. The Hummer is just the start. I personally would love to see an SUV the size of my S10 Blazer powered by electric. Heck even the Corvette will be a hybrid soon.
Aside from cosmetic differences, it gives buyers a choice of dealer — my local GMC dealer was overall better than the Chevy dealer in all ways.
Off roading in the middle of nowhere with an extension cord? No thanks. I’ll stick to gas.
Nice to see, but what’s available for $20k? Nothing….
Sorry it is not 1995 anymore.
