2022 Chevy Camaro To Offer Rapid Blue Exterior Color From C8 Corvette

The C8 Corvette Stingray is offered with an exclusive light blue exterior color called Rapid Blue, but the color won’t stay exclusive to the Vette for very long, with the 2022 Chevy Camaro also set to offer the eye-popping exterior color.

A 2022 Chevy Camaro SS 1LE will lead the field to green for the NASCAR Beef It’s What’s For Dinner 300 race from Daytona International Speedway on Saturday. Just like the C8 Corvette that will pace the Daytona 500 the following night, the Camaro pace car will feature a Rapid Blue body and red, white and black vinyl decals. The pace car gives us a sneak preview of what a 2022 Chevy Camaro will look like finished in Rapid Blue, because until now, only Corvettes have ever been finished in this head-turning hue.

A Rapid Blue Chevy Silverado 1500 RST will also pace Friday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ NextEra Energy 250 race. Unlike the Camaro, though, the Silverado won’t be receiving Rapid Blue as an official exterior color for the 2022 model year. That means this Rapid Blue pace truck could end up being one of the only Silverados that was finished in the color from the factory.

Rapid Blue was among the most popular exterior colors for the 2020 model year Corvette, accounting for six percent of all vehicles produced. Torch Red was the most popular color, achieving a 25 percent take-rate, followed by Arctic White (15 percent), Black (11.7 percent), Sebring Orange (6.8 percent) and Elkhart Lake Blue (6.7 percent).

The Chevy Camaro SS 1LE is well-equipped for pace car duties thanks to its 6.2L LT1 V8 engine and Magnetic Ride Control suspension. Race fans will be able to see the brightly painted Camaro on-track this Saturday night, when the NASCAR Xfinity Series will line up behind the pace car to take the green flag shortly after 5 p.m. EST.

  2. I really like this color with black wheels.

Reminds me of perfect blue on the Chevy SS

  3. This “Rapid Blue” looks very much like the Gordini-Blue used on the Gordini race cars, later Renault-Gordini, at least to my eyes.

Renault offered this color again for the Clio; a former neighbor of mine owned one in this color.

    A very nice blue.

  4. The problem is not lack of colours. Camaro is trying to be too many things. There really should be two cars. Corvette going mid engine opens up a very successful niche for a smaller, lighter Camaro. The ATS starts at 3350 lb. The alpha 1 chassis is very stiff and will make an even better sports car than C7. Aim for the BMW M2 and price it at 30-40k. It should have the 4.3 V6, 5.3 V8, and range topping LT1. Bring back the Impala on the long wheelbase alpha 1 chassis, with the same engines and mild hybrid, to compete with the fast selling Charger. Alpha was good as a Cadillac, but great as a Chevrolet.

  7. ??? A “color choice???”

When was the last time anyone here has seen any type of advertising for the Camaro? Or even just more than a glimpse of the vaunted C8 Corvette in an otherwise long TV advertisement?

How about this, GM—actually start ADVERTISING, and then actually manufacturing and distributing Camaros so that the public can actually BUY them?

GM (oh, wait, gm), in their rush to appear relevant by dropping carlines in favor of EVs is systematically disenfranchising the very buyers that made the company—at one time—the world leader in auto production.

Yeah, yeah; I’m aware that EVs are the ‘future,’ there’s no denying that. But I for one will never buy any vehicle that can’t at least make a 500-mile trip without the necessity of wasting several hours (or even an overnight stay) of my time during a full ‘recharge.’

  8. You mean 1970 Mustang Grabber Blue, don’t you? Why did GM put a Mustang color on the Corvette?

    2. They have stated production on the 2022’s to start August 17. Hope they keep this date as I had a 2021 ordered that got cancelled. Now have a 2022 ordered and waiting for GM to pick the order up and build it. Fingers crossed. Oh so look forward to ripping around in my 2022 Rapid Blue ZL1.

  11. The color (Blue)- No Big Deal, did they tighten up the ugly grill a little for`22 on the LT1 type? Looking at 2021 now, but it’s grill puts me off a little.
