2021 Cadillac Escalade Onyx Package: Live Photo Gallery

Anyone wanting to make their 2021 Cadillac Escalade full-size luxury SUV look as mean as possible would be well advised to steer clear of bright colors and stick to monochrome, preferably with a lot of dark accents in gray or black. For inspiration, we’re bringing you a live photo gallery of a 2021 Escalade with Black Raven paint and equipped with the Onyx Package spotted recently by one of our photographers in a dealer showroom.

The Onyx Package is offered as a $2,295 option on the Sport and Sport Platinum trim levels of both the regular Escalade and the long-wheelbase Cadillac Escalade ESV. The Sport models replace the various chrome accents found on Luxury, Premium Luxury and Premium Luxury Platinum versions with black versions, such as the front grille, accent on the liftgate, and the window surround (DLO) trim. The Sport models already create a sporty, sinister theme, but the Onyx package takes a step further.

Starting from the front, the Onyx Package includes a monochrome Cadillac emblem with none of the reds, yellows or blues usually found on Cadillac models.

Then come the 22-inch wheels. Like the rims normally fitted to Sport and Sport Platinum models, these have a 12-spoke design, but they come in Gloss Black, replacing the standard polished wheels with Dark Android finish.

Unseen in these photos are the Premium carpeted floor mats (the photographer was more concerned with the exterior of the vehicle) and the puddle lamps which incorporate a Cadillac crest (very impressive outdoors, not so much in a showroom during daylight hours).

We can, however, see the rear Escalade nameplate and 600 badging, which in these lighting conditions emphasize the Gloss over the Black. Finally, another example of the monochrome Cadillac emblem adorns the liftgate.

Including a $1,295 destination charge, the MSRP for a rear-wheel-drive 2021 Cadillac Escalade Sport with the Onyx Package (but no other options) is $89,185, whether it is fitted with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline EcoTec3 engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, or the optional 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower and the same 460 pound-feet of torque. Both are paired with GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission.

At the other end of the scale, the four-wheel-drive Escalade ESV Sport Platinum with the Onyx Package is priced at $106,585.

  2. They should have called it the punisher package.

  3. Can’t deny that the monochromatic Cadillac Crest looks great. Really ties in the whole look of the Sport/ Sport Platinum trims.

  4. Why have a blackout package with a nice black grill and silver-toned “stuff” behind the grill glaring through when viewed head on? Kind of diminishes the monochromatic look from the front doesn’t it?

And when will a tire manufacturer create a rubber compound that looks good with gloss black wheels? To me, the current combination always makes it look as if the tires are coated with dirt and/or brake dust. You can use “wet-look” tire dressing, but that is difficult to apply evenly and doesn’t last long. Who wants to show off a $100K ride with dirty looking tires?

I guess to each their own…

  11. I have a new Sport Platinum Escalade with the Onyx package and dark auburn interior. A stunning vehicle. I receive positive comments from everyone that sees the vehicle. I think it is stunning. Tough keeping it clean, but well worth the trouble. I see a lot of vehicles now with a version of the blackout look from other manufacturers. Nice looking, but can’t compare with the Escalades blackout look.

  12. Looking at the truck from the side view, there is plenty of room for the wheels set to be 24 inches, with the same side thickness on the tires, that would be perfect to fill in the wheel well. (just using my imagination)
