Updated 2021 Chevrolet Trax Launches In South Korea

General Motors has just released the significantly updated 2021 Chevrolet Trax in South Korea, the main home country of the global subcompact crossover. The Trax enters its ninth model year with a new gasoline engine to enhance its competitiveness in the South Korean market

As with the North American-spec 2021 Chevrolet Trax, the Bow Tie brand’s longest-running small crossover in South Korea now features the much newer turbocharged 1.4L inline-four LE2 engine, which is more powerful and modern than the 1.4L inline-four LUV unit it replaces. This sudden change makes the Trax compatible with the latest emissions regulations as well as more attractive to customers in the Asian country.

“Trax has been reborn as a more attractive model through improved product quality,” said Vice President Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing at GM Korea, Cesar Toledo, in a statement. “In particular, the superior driving performance and eco-friendliness provided by the enhanced gasoline turbo engine will bring great satisfaction to customers,” he added.

Thanks to the new engine, the 2021 Chevrolet Trax achieved Type 3 low-emission vehicle certification for the first time in South Korea, enhancing its internal marketability. With this certificate, customers can enjoy various benefits such as a lower tax, discounts on public parking as well as the better driving performance of the latest-generation turbo gasoline engines and more efficient consumption.

From a performance standpoint, the turbocharged 1.4L LE2 engine in the 2021 Chevrolet Trax is a notable improvement over its predecessor. Equipped with GM’s advanced rightsizing technology, this engine delivers a locally homologated 155 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque in South Korea, a significant improvement compared to the 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet produced by the outgoing 1.4L LUV engine.

The 2021 Chevrolet Trax with this new gasoline engine will be available at the end of January in the South Korean market, and interested customers can already make a reservation for it. In addition to the powertrain upgrade, the new model-year Trax also adopts several trim and feature changes to keep the crossover fresh until the end of its lifecycle. Here is the suggested pricing of the 2021 Trax in South Korea:

  • 2021 Trax LS 1.4T: 18,850,000 KRW (about $17,110 USD at current exchange rates)
  • 2021 Trax LT 1.4T: 20,910,000 KRW (about $18,980 USD)
  • 2021 Trax LT+ 1.4T: 21,700,000 KRW (about $19,699 USD)
  • 2021 Trax LT Redline 1.4T: 22,050,000 KRW (about $20,010 USD)
  • 2021 Trax Premier 1.4T: 22,980,000 KRW (about $20,860 USD)
  • 2021 Trax Premier Redline 1.4T: 23,330,000 KRW (about $21,170 USD)

    1. Chevy Trax are imported from South Korea…..It is a re-bagged Deawoo SUV. Similar to ALL the South Korean cars…. Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Nissan all share parts with each other as well in Japan.
