Customers who wish their Chevrolet dealers place an order for optional 22-inch wheels typically offered on the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup truck in the near future are likely to be disappointed. Availability of the wheels, optional on the LT, RST, LTZ and High Country trim levels, is at present either limited or non-existent. The issue impacts six Silverado 1500 wheel choices.

GM Authority has learned that the lack of 22-inch wheel availability on the Silverado is a result of supplier issues, and has been the case for roughly a month. GM is actively working on resolving the issue, but it is not yet clear when the situation will return to normal.
The six impacted 22-inch wheels are LPO items, which means that, although they are ordered in conjunction with the vehicle, they are not installed at the GM Flint Assembly Plant or the GM Fort Wayne Assembly Plant where the Silverado 1500 is built. Instead, they are shipped with a set of placeholder steel 22-inch wheels with alignment suited to the LPO wheels, which are shipped separately to the dealer and installed there.
The problem is not exclusive to the Chevy Silverado. It also impacts most other GM models which offer the 22-inch wheels, most of them body-on-frame trucks and SUVs. In November, GM Authority reported on a similar problem affecting Chevrolet’s flagship SUVs, the 2021 Chevy Suburban and the 2021 Chevy Tahoe.
As reported previously, the 2021 Silverado 1500 pickup received a slight price increase in mid-December, amounting to between $400 and $600 depending on trim level. At around the same time, it became possible for dealers to order the Silverado 1500 with the optional multi-function Multi-Flex tailgate, though production is not scheduled to begin until February 2021.
We also recently reported that the Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss are the “two top conquest trims” in the Silverado line-up, and that their buyers are “among the youngest buyers of the Silverado. These models are not affected by the supply issues regarding the 22-inch wheels, since the two Trail Boss models do not offer the large wheels as options.

If a supplier bids to be the provider of a product and can not deliver the first chance you get, put their head on the chopping block.
Easy to armchair quarterback, ignoring the fact that you have expensive tooling owned by the vendor, extensive engineering and safety qualification, shipping and logistics differences, and labor and plant space availability.
Meanwhile the Germans, and Japanese particularly, stick with one vendor through thick and thin and build extreme loyalty, avoid change, and therefore increase quality.
This is what happnes when GM works with fly by night, wheel companies. In years gone by, GM only worked with established USA wheel manufactures. Since the ’80’s, there have been new wheel companies popping up every week. Most from overseas. Simple, buy American made!!!! Keep America at work.
Covid people. Everything from wheels to wax toilet gaskets has had a supply chain slowdown. To those calling for heads on blocks, please share your secret for getting blood from a stone.
When I saw this article last week, I thought “oh crap!”.
I have a GMC Sierra SLT crew cab on order, with the SFO 22″ chrome wheels. On Thursday my dealer was notified that the 22’s for my truck, won’t be available again until sometime in the second quarter of 21. I have to decide this weekend if I want to wait, or let my order go though with 20’s. Since I have a $1000 bonus from my GM Card that’s only good till 3/1/21, and by the mid second quarter I’ll have 3000 to 4000 more miles on my 2016 SLT trade, possibly effecting it’s value, sadly I’m thinking I’ll go ahead with the 20’s.
Apparently there’s supplier issues with some of the running boards too, effecting their availability. Fortunately, the full length steps on the SLT crew cab aren’t at issue.
